@@Bogieking78 nowadays defamation lawyers don't charge any fees, they instead charge a share of the lawsuit winning amount if their client wins. So Hans doesn't really have to pay anything to his lawyers if he loses, instead he has to pay like 10-20% I think if he wins. Some even charge 40%

@@sbonisokunene8110 I'm a complete amateur when it comes to law, but probably no. Defamation cases are hard to win because Hans would need to show that damage was done to him due to false claims and that the false claims were made with intention to harm. I don't think he intends to win, assuming that he is innocent, I guess he wants to show to the world that there is no conclusive evidence that he cheated and win in the court of public opinion. But who knows, I don't think anyone believed Johnny Depp would win against Amber Heard, yet he did.

It's sad to see the rise in popularity of chess be tainted with drama soon after. I hope there will be clarity in this matter so that we can all go back to enjoying quality chess
As an attorney, this seems like a massive blunder by Hans. He opens himself up to discovery about prior cheating allegations, and this will accelerate his blackball status like nothing else. Regarding Hikaru, Niemann will have to prove intentional malice and/or actual collusion, which will essentially be impossible. He's also as popular a chess figure as one can find.
Also, Hikaru Nakamura is definitely not a "natural person" in any sense. :)
You could see from day one of this whole drama (the infamous "chess speaks for itself") that Niemann is incredibly arrogant.

@@protonx80 there is still the unofficial over the board report. It basically claimed the he most likely cheated because by his chess progression, he is the fastest growing player of all time by far. There are many report out there that would damage him over the board. It doesn’t have to be true. But once it is out in court publicly on record, he will face more issues. Just like Armstrong, all of his wins will get pulled. Sport body doesn’t need to prove doping in every event. Once there is one, They can pull all winnings.

So if all 12 jurors determined that the unofficial report is proof, then on court record, it is proof. For instance, if a rape child victim says pastor raped him, and jurors determined that it is factual, then on record, it is proof. It is true regardless of any hard evidence like video tapes or DNA
@@stanley19430 A child can not testify to court and tge testimony used as absolute evidence. The reason is they are easily manipulated so what you are saying doesn't apply here. In general however, jurors decide on the case but they can't factually claims nor ignore real evidence. It will still be out there after the discoveries.
One thing is clear. The lawyers of both sides stand to gain millions from this law suit.
