I'm in love with this computer, the design is so unique and now that they finally made it more powerful it's jus perfect
I own the Surface Studio 1, i7 32GB RAM 2TB hybrid drive. I bought it at launch and even now I stop to admire its looks...just like car enthusiasts admire a Porsche. The only way I would part with it is to get the Studio 2.
if you have the studio v1, can you tell us how does it perform?
I do lots of animation and illustration, so this is very appealing (and not that pricey, considering the values of a Dell Canvas or a Cintiq 24 pro).My big question is in regards of performance in video editing (Premiere, After Effects) and/or 3d modelling. Do you have any feedback you can share on that matter?
Sell surface studio 1 online for 3K+ save up, buy surface studio 2
The Surface line is amazing! I've had a couple & it's true that they're pleasant to use. They just feel nice!
I wish I could justify a Surface Studio 2 but I went with a Surface Book instead because I need to be mobile. But I have my eye on this one... I look forward to seeing more videos of it from you 👏
I have a surface book 2 with dedicated graphics and I love that machine. I do editing, gaming, development and overall productivity with it.
The most perfect PC for artists in my opinion. If I would have the money, I would use only Microsoft Surface products, for me it should not even have to be compared to Apple products, cause Surface is just a different league at this point.
@Thinking X Why would it be a lie? I just stated my opinion and preferance. And most of the people will try to compare it to a Mac.
@Swift Boiz all products have their own problems. Please don't say that iMac is flawless..
I agree with you that the surface line in terms of design and form and usability and the idea of it is very appealing and in my opinion as well is better than Apple's (I use apple products and windows products) but the thing that keeps bringing me back to apple is the reliability of their OS... it just freaking works when u need it.
It's not, the stylus makes lines jagged
This thing is 10 times better than a mac.
really? ahahah
@@Predator4737 i7 , 32gb , GTX 1070 Ti enough ?

@@DevsWiki A 7th Gen i7, the biggest issue with the Surface to be honest, for the same price you can get a 10 core Xeon from Apple
@@scottm9502 yea try gaming on that lol
Can't agree with u more... I really don't have a use of the Surface studio but am really saving to get one I just love it
I have the surface studio 1. Lovely piece of hardware.
Getting it for Christmas!!!!! I’m so hyped!!!
5:36-5:45 that was gold.
Hello, Ed here...I enjoyed the video. I have always like this product and now with the enhanced GPU, well now we are talking some serious editing, and maybe gaming, power. Love the walk through, and the style of this video is great. Now the price, well that is a little steep, considering you could probably build a PC for cheaper but, to get this quality in an all in one. That might be worth paying for. Look forward to more.
Microsoft should release a surface studio Pro that will truly kill imac pro
It already killed your pathetic mac
@Swift Boiz the only reply to you is that......
RIP MAC
lol you've got big dreams 😂
@@rajeshraghavan2248 Dude the iPad pro is better than this. This only has a larger screen
@@Ash-pg4hw you only believe in a logo which shows status... Technology is far beyond your logo.
Oooooh I love it. Here's my question: with it being an all-in-one computer and after doing extra research, is the Studio 2 fully equip to endure heavy graphic design and web development work?
Oh for sure. I mean it handles me editing my 4.6K footage no problem with graphics and coloring etc.
It looks awesome,😍😍
Lovely design, seems powerful. Too rich for my blood. I'm sorta curious about heat distribution since it's so slim and sleek. The combo of the i7 and 1070 along would generate some serious heat with a lot of programs (what if I wanted to use Gaia or the Unreal engine on it). It's the Mercedes Benz of AIO touchscreen devices.
Thanks nice video.. Gonna do a premiere test video with this?
no thunderbolt? cmon its 2018
The real question is: How are they cooling that monster in that widdle box?
This is way much better in terms of specs compared to the first Surface Studio.. Amazing video
Great video! I totally understand, I wouldn't want to give it back if I had that too. lol! That thing looks amazing!
How would this perform using it for music production?
Nice walk through
Love your review though I compared to my mid2017 iMac...i get Geekbench scores of 5676 single and 19331 multicore, how is a 2019 Microsoft Surface Studio with 4140/13918 any better?? Ok there is the 1070, but its like 1000$ (!) more than my iMac!! Thats insane :(
Yes sure, correct, thx for the reply...but its like 1.5 years later is 1000$ more expensive, expected more/better specs or less priced at least...
@@Sheeeerkhan Not defending MS, but I think they price their Surface line high not to anger OEMs. I agree this should of have an 8th Gen Intel or AMD Ryzen Processor. Its a good product, but is way to expensive.
It's a laptop processor in the Studio. The thing is basically a laptop hooked up to a touch screen.
Pen & touchscreen is a valid thing to add to the cost. Whether that's worth $1,000 more than Martin's 2-year old iMac is up to you.
Not angering the OEMs isn't the cutsomer's problem, though. So pricing it high for that particular reason offers no benefit to us when considering the Surface Studio. And considering this machine is meant to appeal to creatives, an area which Apple dominates, you'd think they'd make the Studio a bit more tempting spec-wise for that big dough.
My old mid 2015 5K iMac is 4712/13463 and it is only an i5 :-)
Damn. That whole hinge mechanism is still as sexy as the first time I saw it.
did you end up making any more videos on the Surface Studio 2? What were your final takes after using it for a while? Looking to make the switch in my design studio away for the iMacs.
Can u hook up 2 more monitors ? IF so how do you do it? Thanks if you reply . . .
When are you going to review the surface studio pro 2 plus?
Yours has a USB-C port... some other reviewers reviewed ones with a mini display port.
I see a lot of people complaining about this PC. It's not the most powerful computer you can buy. But neither is the iMac. It's the quality of the device that I love. Its plenty powerful for me personally, the main thing I would use it for is browsing online with that beautiful display.
@Thinking X Mostly web browsing. But also other things occasionally.
I want that machine bad, but that price hurts. Yours is the only review I've seen of it, which is strange considering how much press time its predecessor got. There's been more coverage of the Macbook Air, which is a joke. I get the impression that Microsoft REALLy doesn't like thunderbolt 3, which is a shame as it would help improve performance with external storage. I'd love to redesign that case.
Thanks for this video! When can i buy one. Hard to find info about the release date
I want this but I only want just the screen
Same af
Loved the review. I'd like to have a Surface Studio 2 for ZBrush and Substance Painter. By the way, what's the song in the background? I'm really digging it.
honest review, as usual , thanks.
Where is the cpu??
It may be on par with the iMac pro but the later has an octa-core Xeon processor, not a quad-core i7. I know, there's more power per core here but the octa-core Xeon definitely beats the quad-core processor. It's like the only thing I could focus on. Looks very much aesthetically appealing, tho.
Xeon isn't a different processor, just the most heat tolerant of a given batch, which makes no difference to 99% of end users. Now add the Studio's GPU's CUDA cores on top of its already superior graphic performance. Add a system-level intuitive touch interface and pen integration, all for less money. The only real advantage of iMac Pro is Final Cut Pro.
"Signature drawing board position"? Any creative who uses a large, direct on screen input device knows there is no "signature drawing board position" that will remain in that position for very long, and need varying positions throughout the day, even extending it off the desk into the lap (like Cintiqs do), and sturdy enough to rest your arm/lean on in those varying positions... does this do that? Reaching out or sitting hunched over a screen is not sustainable for extended periods of time, and you are just begging for neck, back/shoulder and arm problems if you do.
You can’t really compare it to the iMac pro they have totally different specs. It’s like comparing an orange to a lemon.
To be fair he only compare the prices.
And both of these devices are target at 2 different types of users.
great video style 👌
the first one was bad since it was released with a gtx 980 when the gtx 1080/70/60 was released.
then again they are doing the same thing since turing has been released and notebook turing is waiting to be released soon.
Is it possible to upgrade CPU and Graphic card ?
When you do heavy things like rendering ir haming, how does the base handle overheat?
Photoshop too?
Nice overview , but i think a digital artist would be best to review this product.
I love it.
Is there a heating problem?
Surface is own app's creation.
they shoulda put a desktop cpu in there, period
Got remember who the intended Users are
Mainly artist, architects people who draw and maybe a combination of videos Editing.
the CPU actually quite capable. the real star of the show is the screen The hinge and GPU.
Its a good one thanks , my only problem is the system itself I don’t really trust windows ( for viruses) Marc’s are more stable, but with that studio 2 I will take the risk honestly is better , sure it’s will make a better 4K editing with that gtx1070 and gaming too ;)
Omfreestyle what about 7th gen cpu?
Why is Microsoft so afraid of Thunderbolt 3 though. Seriously that's been the absolute deal breaker for me for every surface product, especially the Surfscr Book 2 where they have USBC (finally) but it isn't thunderbolt compatible so what's the point then??? Like at this point it's a very concious choice that is just baffling.
Compare the surface studio 2 with a Wacom cintiq
What’s up with Microsoft?! Why does this “high-end” PC doesn’t have thunderbolt 3 ?!
Do you need it though if you already have 1060/1070..? Just asking...
@@pangkan270 It's not all about external GPU. Thunderbolt is essential for super fast transfer speeds and also if you wanna hook up a display.
Because if you plug an external RTX3080 (next year) you will never replace the Surface Studio 2 with the next version. Microsoft wants force us to replace their devices every two years.
@Swift Boiz get the f out of here, you're just a hater... Or worse an Apple sucker. Stop replying every comment. We get you don't like the Surface Studio 2 move along
The real showstopper here is the monitor. MS have no history making monitors and this is supposed to be a graphics workstation, so monitor is totally key. It falls short. If they would partner up with Eizo and deliver a ColorEdge instead I would probably consider it - or a Nec flagship. But watching that over saturated glare screen with crappy color accuracy made me sad. The package costs way too much. The same specs as this top SS 2 model cost a fraction if you buy a custom stationary. As a matter of fact for the same prize you could get TEN times the power and spend the cash you have left on a top of a line graphics monitor, like the Eizo ColorEdge for instance. Not hatin, just saying:)
No 8th gen processor, no display port in, and no Thunderbolt 3!
I'm a visualization designer. Went into the shop to test the surfacebook 2 13' and 15'. Loved em both -smooth and responsive...until they would just freeze. First the 13' and than the 15'. Needless to say I got the macpro 2018 instead. I so badly wanted to get the surface, but what use is a wonderful idea and product if it's not reliable??
I was noticing in the video that @2:24 it looks like he goes to pinch the screen but there's no reaction. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what I saw, but that's how it looks.
But I will also say that I find that at the Microsoft Store I go to, the employees don't always keep the displayed products in tip-top shape. Often the pens or mice won't be connected, certain programs will need to be updated, etc. Only to say, who knows what was going on with those Surface Books you were testing. But I feel ya.
What were your final thoughts here?
What about gaming?
*No 8th Gen cpu is a no go blatant ripoff .*
8th gen would be nice but usually there are many other factors as to why the engineers decided not to go with it. Could be any number of bottlenecks they couldn't mitigate before the intended release date.
Comparing the price of a PC with i7-7820HQ 2.9GHz (4cores), 32 GB DDR4, USB 3.0, 1Gb Ethernet, ... to a "comparable" iMac Pro Xeon W 3.2GHz (8cores), 32GB DDR4 ECC, USB 3.1, 10Gb Ethernet, ... And the Microsoft Surface 2 is slightly cheaper. Really???
Microsoft should get back to mobile world ! And make some new surface mobile phones as well. But make sure that they mid-range and not costly. And then I'm sure the Microsoft will lead a market 🙂
background music?
No thunderbolt 3 at this price point, even when Intel NUCs do? I'll pass.
awesome
I got it but the screen makes videos look blurry😢😂
Imagine hooking up the mac studio instead of the Windows base, take my money please
Yessss
Maybe stick to just ONE watermark
Can I plug an external GPU thru a USB C on this?
it comes with gtx 1070ti 8GB DDR5 , you need more for professional uses ?
too bad they're not shipped with 6core 8th gen which +50% better on multithread
Microsoft is the new Apple
Surface pro is just barely there on perfection. These damn things are over priced like hell that it makes $1k seem like $20...
As always tho, regardless.. you're welcome
Waiting for deep review.
Now.... Why no black?!
When Apple launch product with outdated configuration and high price, it's ok but when ms does, ms sucks irony 😂
Apple never launched a Mac with outdated specs. Their devices are underpowered but are never outdated. You just can't admit the fact so you say something that makes you feel good.
Great Video and overview. I would use this PC for mainly ZBRUSH.. its a 3D sculpting software and you require some hot keys on your keyboard. Any way to have some hot keys somewhere on the screen somehow instead of switching your workflow from screen to keyboard back and forth?
Hi
Hackintosh this system.
It will definitely outperform every system desktop till today.
I don't think Microsoft would approve of that lol
@@northamerican6009 No one will approve it.
You have to do on your own.
Mayank Garg only a 1070?
@@veyveyplaysmc2215 But it's performance will be unexpected.
I know there is RTX2080 but 1070 can work
Mayank Garg the parts are worth 800$, is the screen really worth 4.2k?
stop showing benchmarks and not explaining what the numbers mean...
Looks cool... I'm going to buy it and install XP! HA HA HA, no really I really want this.
More like win7. Haha! I want it but it's a waste of cash. I could build two gaming rigs for that price.
@@Repented008 it's target at a very specific group of users
the great thing about the windows ecosystem is there's plenty options out there .
I wish i could afford it
CPU is not even better than 2017 MacBook Pro (i7-7820HQ vs i7-7920HQ)
4:21 its so odd to see that the new iPad Pro is more powerful !
If only the iPad Pro used OSX. I hate being stuck with the severely limited capabilities of iOS.
cooked results.
@Jan Schmidt yeah. People's misunderstanding of the platform is just pure cringe. It's not more powerful! Score is higher for its own architecture not desktops!
@CoreyIsTheName If the iPad was running Mac OS, it wouldn't pull those numbers. The iPad can do it because iOS is a lighter operating system and had chips designed around it.
@Ibrahim Musa iOS 'can' be more powerful than a desktop, though. All that matters is results. For example, there are situations where an iPad Pro can render 4K faster. Or Procreate can run smoother than desktop Photoshop in certain tasks. Sure, you're not gonna run FCPX or Premiere or After Effects on the iPad. But things are inching towards that direction. Photoshop will be on the iPad Pro soon enough.
I'm not saying that to pump up the iPad. I'm just being for real. Apple making the chips and the OS is turning out to be a big advantage for them. They are playing the long game. Microsoft is going to have to figure something out to compete with that, because I don't want to be in a world where people only use Apple. Ugh.
@@JamalBlakk well if you understood how chips work you wouldn't make that claim. Just look at the chassis. A fan less mobile processor will not compete with desktop parts. Due to thermal throttling. Even high end macs suffer from this issue. Let alone the iPad.
Yes nice computer for sure but You can't hook up an extra monitor if you want you can't even do that USB USB type 2.0 It's not compilable So you can't Set up an extra Screen That p***** me off so much And this computer is worth $4000
Что он говорит?
A Slowdown commercial dude nothing special nothing special at all unless you're getting paid for it
Please invest in teeth whitening. There i said it.
I've always been impressed by this computer. Sadly, it's windows. Also, crazy expensive when the main feature is one I don't care about at all. Regular PC with a good screen would do the job for my use and could still make it into a Hackintosh (spending about half the money), so I'm probably never getting one. Sadly.
Yeah, it's not meant for you then.
okey, great..... but are you camparing a Xeon vfs an i7?? plz don't do that
It's the best device for creators but I'd prefer iMac as a computer. It has tons of thunderbolt ports and 10 gigabit Ethernet. IMac is just a better computer.
kunal pahuja Sure it's better for Apple-esque tasks - whatever they are. You could do a lot more with this device than you could an iMac, that's for sure.
@@ZuneGuy1118 nope. Main reason people go to Macs is because of video / audio / image editing softwares. And Mac does it better than this machine.
@@rph_redacted Sure people who buy them for whatever purpose are people who like Macs and Apple for that matter. On the other hand, people (like myself) who can't imagine using an Apple computer as their sole computer for anything - won't buy an iMac at all. Fortunately for Microsoft more people prefer Windows PCs than they do iMacs. At least Apple will always have mobile over Microsoft though. People who like Windows will buy, people who like iMac will buy that.
@@ZuneGuy1118 why won't you get a Mac other than your hate for Apple?
@@rph_redacted because an iMac is way more limiting experience than the use of a Windows computer. The only edge or reason to even buy an iMac is because everything is so much more controlled on the Apple front, which keeps things running a bit smoothly, but limits your choices and your overall experiences. This is the choice that you make when buying one or the other. I personally don;t prefer those limits, so I choose Windows and Linux.
This is anything but for pros. No thunderbolt. USB c is not the same thing nor is it a substitute. Microsoft should stop being so damn cheap. 2. It uses a mobile processor. That’s an insult. The ssd speeds are pathetic. And windows has shit colour management cause it’s not on the OS level. The MacBook pro is a better deal. You can get a six core processor with a Vega GPU that supports 10 bit output unlike the 10 series, can connect 2 5K displays and 2 external raid arrays. And that does not include the daisy chaining and docking ability via thunderbolt. Or you can get an iMac Pro with a fucking Xeon processor and Vega 56. On both machines, the ssds are 2800 read and write. That’s insane. And for the same price as this Microsoft junk I can have 32gb of ram. Plus even before we match the price, if you got a MacBook Pro you would have 900 to spare and if you got an iMac Pro you would have 550. Former leaves room for a colour accurate 4K monitor Adobe RGB or dci p3 that will take advantage of macos colour management and a decent graphics tablet. While the iMac Pro, I could spend all that money on a stellar tablet to draw on. Plus both machines have a T2 chip for on-board security and encryption. So in short, this Microsoft product is a piece of crap. It is not for pros. It is an oversized junk. Even a 5K iMac is better than this with a 7700k and wicked fast ssd with a good gpu.
Have some water man. Chill.
Have you used this device?
Peter Ranjus I used the first one. The cpu is an incremental upgrade at best and it was already laggy. The gpu is an upgrade. But it’s so limited to that display and gaming because it doesn’t support 10 bit output. The computers pretty slow overall compared to its cheaper competitors
@@rohanjain4573 My experience with surface products have been very positive. I own the very first surface pro, surface pro 4 and studio. They have performed to my expectations as a lecturer, gamer and light home use. Never had any problems at all. The original surface pro is now almost 6 years old, and works perfectly
Peter Ranjus I’m sure for that use it’s been amazing. But I’m saying that it was designed for professional content creators. Look at the design of the studio. My point is that a content creator who does pro video, photo, or even audio work should not be using a surface studio. For your use case, it’s probably good because you don’t need those features. But these prices are in the pro content creator market and if you are paying a Microsoft tax, you should be getting the best components. Just like apple uses the best ssds and trackpad or how Lenevo has the best keyboard etc.
The new iPad is more powerful.
Nope.
ehm... not even close....
You're kidding right?
I said what I said
@@slighce Well it's a really dumb thing to say or even think. IPad Pro 2018 is probably the most powerful mobile device - mobile meaning basic everyday laptops, cell phones and other tablets but (and I'm sorry that you didn't know this) it stops at mobile. Also the bend-gate issue the new iPad looks as though it's made about as durable as a sheet of construction paper. I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on something like. You Apple guys are the most hilarious people.
I love this
