IrishFists to be honest I don’t like Microsoft for all the reasons this thing seemingly destroyed lol so I’ve been .. hoping Microsoft would do something to this quality. I of course need to check it for myself but I can infer that it’s probably what people are saying it is. I love things that feel like good quality and I gotta hand it to Microsoft to Mack that brace as strong and sturdy as it seems. I imagine the prices will come down so I may buy cheaper digital drawing pads until this does. But I’m excited for it. Especially because it has gaming capabilities and I want to get into PC.. mainly for overwatch haha..

Olav Hansen yeah I have a custom built gaming pc for gaming and more intensive tasks, but for what I need it for, it is a perfect premium computer which makes me justify the price even without over the top specs.

@@HerreDePerre No, actually. Mac only has AMD vegas graphics while the surface studio 2 literary has a 1070 which is one of the best graphics cards on the market. Also, the mac, or even imac both dont have screens, or a pen you can use, and having usb-c doesnt nessesarily mean better ports, tons of things today are still normal usb. My keyboard is normal usb, my external harddrive is usb, my razer mouse is usb, my razer seinheizer is usb and my headphones are usb. so if i were to pick between ports, still the surface studio

Bought one when it came out, went to buy another one for the kitchen the next day (recipes etc). Amazing device. And I am usually a fulltime Linux user on all laptops and desktops at home, but for this device (just like for my surface pro) windows makes much more sense.

@ An RTX 2080 TI in SLI with an i9 9900K would be around 3500 to 4000 so dont try to compare it for gaming...
You can get so many other things done with it though and for the price it's a very serious alternative to apple products.

There is a reason every pro studio has all Apple products. Nearly every tv show and movie is edited on Mac. Nearly every recording studio uses Mac. Mac is the industry standard. Windows will never be industry standard in the creative world. Windows is just for gamers.

Maybe but it would probably be supported for a lot longer. My daughter still has a iPad mini 2 that still works as good as when it was new and runs current iOS. This product was released 5 years ago. How many 5 year old Microsoft or Samsung tablets are still as good now as when new? The last version of this product was released 2 years ago. I am not an Apple fan boy and think that since Steve Jobs died Apple have got a lot worse but you kind get what you pay for.

My PC has nearly the exact same specs as this but cost me less than 1500. Then take into account that I can buy a drawing monitor of the same resolution for less than 1k, this system doesnt seem very worth it...

I believe this was one of the weakest reviews from you.. this machine is a marvel of engineering. For a professional designer.. it's a straight jump into a future we never imagined. Microsoft is always being ahead of the competition in terms of the concept and design, it's just their software and the support for it that is letting things down for them

To those saying that this costs too much:
There's an iMac Pro in my sidebar recommendations that's worth $5000.
And probably isn't even in this $3500 machine's same league...
a typical mac user, ladies and gentlemen. If you want workstation horsepower, you better off building your own pc for better value.
@Connor G And an iMac pro is somehow better? Both are equally as horrid a choice for workstations. Graphic designers, concept artists, we'd rather spend that $5k-$15k on say, a Cintiq 32 Pro, with a PC Workstation. Why? predominantly because if some of the hardware fails, less down time when all you have to do is replace that particular bit of hardware, also considerably cheaper than Apples insane repair prices, all under the guise of 'too complicated, certifications!' when in reality all they've done is create a PC, physically locked the hardware and soldered most of it to the board.
Did you know, to replace an iMac's logic board, you have to purchase not only the logic board, but the CPU and RAM as well? despite it using a socketed CPU and RAM sticks. So when an iMac has say a faulty CPU. They'll charge you to replace the entire board. Microsoft Surfaces aren't any better in that department, considering they've gone down the same route, soldering everything to the board.
Ultimately, the Pro in iMac Pro and Surface Studio Pro, doesn't mean Professional! as I'm pretty sure the vast majority of companies working in the graphic design an gaming industry use PC Workstations. Alot cheaper to maintain, alot cheaper to repair, alot more variety in software. For example, why would a company train a new concept artist hire to use a piece of software they aren't familiar with, when its cheaper to just buy the software they are familiar with, as most software nowadays have come to output the same file formats, and you don't need to fret about finding comparable software on MacOS. Which is just, a smartphones iOS at this point.
I know alot of artists that use CSP, but I know alot of artists that use Photoshop. Both can open eachothers file format.
iMacs certainly have a market, but its most definitely not in the graphic design or gaming industry.
Same with the silly surface studio. Both are stupidly restrictive when it comes to hardware.
As for the Surface trying to market itself as some form of drawing beast. Artists gravitate to Wacom and a few other brands that produce predominantly superior equipment, especially when it comes to the screens themselves. Pretty sure the Cintiq's screen, just as an example is vastly superior, being that combined with the grip pen 2, has virtually no Parallax. Chinese brands have even caught up and started producing drawing screens and drawing tablets that have little Parallax.
However, in the Surface PC tablet department, those are still superior to iPads when it comes to drawing. Not that it really helps them in anyway, being a device thats got the CPU, RAM and SSD soldered to the board. Ah, form factor, both a virtue and bane of a tablets existence.

@@brunolopes2205 Not sure what surface pen you've been using lol. The one I have for my surface book doesn't fit that description you just gave. Had it for over a year now, never needed to replace the tips. To be fair, I don't use it as regularly as an artist would.
@@sudoman i have a surface pro 4 and I used the pen pretty kuch everyday... photoshop, sketchboob, note taking. Do you really think you know best?? Its not a bad stylus compared to others but for 100 dollars it just sucks. Its not an experience an artist would want after spending 1000 on thw surface amd 1000 of the pen
@@brunolopes2205 my use is limited to note taking, and idk what's going with your surface pro but the latency with my pen is indiscernable. Upon closer examination, the tip is slightly bent, but that doesn't interfere with the way I use it at all. Just opened the whiteboard app and did a sketch on it. Your experience still doesn't line up...
I can just imagine character designers adjusting this and being like "hey does this look good?" And manga/comic illustrators drafting and being like "does this look alright?". Omg if I were to become a full time artist this would be a legit investment.

I know this is old news, however, seeing Willie (sp?) tear into the Surface Dial with the Studio would be great. The dial is a novelty with a lot of programs and other PC's, but the Surface line and Studio in particular create another level of interaction that just does not exist anywhere else. Never owned a Studio, but am very invested in Surface Line otherwise.
Thanks for providing such a great zone for deflation from reality. Always have to tear myself away, but the smile lasts for hours.

I can tell you 3500 is not as expensive as you'd think. Some Wacom tablets are almost 3k and those are just screens, not a whole PC as this. So as long as the pressure sensitivity and quality is good it sounds fair.
No one with a good job in my country gets more than 1000€

I'll wait for the next iteration with RTX GPUs, but this is by far the most beautiful and solid design I've seen in ages. I honestly believe Microsoft should work more on the perception people have of their products because Apple has been living simply on this for ages now. This thing is absolutely marvelous.
They are changing a lot internally based on their design philosophies and unifying their software and design systems across their range of products. And bolstering existing ones. This extends to areas such as Xbox too which is evident in the past few years, especially with their most recent CEO at the helm.

I actually envisioned having something like this for CAD (touch input really helps with orientation and movement). Glad I found something that actually exists.
I think more brand should go into that direction. Even with a little bit bigger base, maybe you could change the videocard (especially the small ones from zotac for example).

It looks amazing but just watching him use the pen on the screen I can immediately tell that the pen has a slight lag. iPad with an apple pen has very little to no lag and honestly at that price point id expect it to at least be the same.
sahco I thought the same thing. Also, the stand isn’t strong enough to hold your "drawing pressure" for the upper half of the screen. If it’s not flat when you start, it will be in short order
