    Vice News sits down with Dr. Michael Woodward, an organizational psychologist and HR consultant, to find out how to quit a job.

    My grandpa always said. “I was looking for a job before I found this one.” Meaning it’s okay to quit your job and move onto something else. It’s your life.

      Yea great job Vice, tell people to quit their jobs rather than motivating them to work harder and reap the rewards of it. You live in a capitalist society, you put in the time and effort and you will be rewarded for it.If you are capable of providing something of worth that is rare or niche among the population, you will be rewarded for it.
      I am very very close to un-subbing from this pathetic despicable agenda-pushing hogwash of a "an edgy news-agency", you have lost touch with the people who made you popular and grown so delusional from ideological indoctrination it is very sad. I don't know if the previous workers from 2012-2013 got fired or quit on their own terms from the toxic environment that you are setting and spewing, you are not helping people telling millennial (who are so far deluded from reality in terms of social media and being vulnerable) to now quit their jobs? Something that is offering them subsistence at the time being.
      Instead, how about being intelligent and telling them to find another job and apply for one while you are working so when you quit you have something lined up already? You are indoctrinating youth to quit their jobs and be subservient on government welfare and resources when these youth are in their prime to make a difference or work hard and be rewarded for it. You are enabling these youth to give up because you are reinforcing their radical ideologies that "the system is rigged personally against me" when in fact it really isn't.
      I really hope with the direction you are taking your "news" (it isn't, it's agenda pushing and ideological indoctrination) that you are forced to adapt and change since the general public is beginning to see through your pathetic fabrications of "reality".

    • @Zamblinger
      @Zamblinger Před 7 lety +1

      Pretty sure trade jobs pay pretty damn well in the current economy, more than university jobs in some cases - to me it sounds like you are the incompetent one who can't "solve engine computer issues" (sounds to me like it's a part of your job description but you cant do it) and you throw out 127%, I don't even know what that even means or how it is even related to the argument at all. If you provide results that are substantial and satisfactory and offer something of worth, you will be rewarded - if you can be easily replaced, you are not working a job that is aligned with your interests because you clearly sound like you hate your job.
      Do what you love and reap the rewards of it. You can bring any specific Western human problem in relation to jobs to this argument and I don't see how it applies because clearly the logic still prevails, if you were needed and substantial and they could not replace you easily, you wouldn't be exploited easily (I also have a feeling that you are lying and fabricating an issue - mechanics are paid very well in the current society that we live in).

    • @Zamblinger
      @Zamblinger Před 7 lety +1

      You are telling me I am a pencil pusher and I don't even know what that means, I do not need to tell you what I do for a job but I can tell you honestly that you are not so different from many Americans in terms of the challenges or new issues that they face on the job. I know many trade peoples and some of them seem to be able to do it proficiently and easily (it comes naturally), they don't complain about it and they get rewarded for it. I think this is a replication of your business that you work at, it is clearly mismanaged and incompetent (it's not the workers fault in the case, maybe it's the management which the market allocates to, the better managed and more efficient and proficient and those that provide meaningful results survive - those who are better than the lower quartile in the same profession, this isn't hard to understand).
      It is not my job to explain to you the specifics of your job or the stress or problems u experience everyday, I am not a therapist and I am not a union worker to butter you up. You just proved to me that you were lying, please you are wasting my time. I find it personally amusing but not worth anymore of my thought or input anymore.

    I like my job but my managers, even the higher ups are poor leaders. They are good at managing tasks and operations, very poor at managing people. Too much authority has been given to the rest of the team, creating a situation where I have like 4 people (senior in the job, but not in age or rank) want me to listen and do what they say. It's a headache when the managers don't acknowledge this problem and step up.

  • @aniwee3143

    Exit interview should always be politely declined, even if it is the policy of the company to do one. The reason is that there is no upside benefit to the worker who is about to leave. If the company really cares about what the soon to be departing employee's true feelings about the company, wouldn't the company want to find out about it when the worker was still productive? There is a lot of downside risks to the soon to be departed worker if the worker decided to open his or her heart and told the truth about how she or he really felt about the company. One or two years later, when a new potential employer calls for a reference, the old HR department has a file on the exit interivew and this information could be used against the employee who poured his or her heart out to the old HR. Only advice: Do not do it. If you must do one due to company policy, choose your word carefully as if you were being interviewed by a potential employer.

    My thoughts on this...
    1) I wouldn't give notice since they will never give you notice.
    If you give notice, they will typically have you escorted out of the building immediately anyway.
    Only exception might be if your industry is very small and everyone knows everyone else.
    2) Ideally have a new job lined up!!!
    3) Immediately apply for Obamacare (while it lasts) so you don't go without health coverage.
    Even if you have a job lined up, it typically will take over 60 days to become eligible for health insurance.
    If you have any medical or dental things due, get them done before you quit!
    It can take several weeks for your O'care to become effective. Longer if your application gets screwed up.
    4) If you don't have a job lined up, be sure to have saved up a substantial emergency fund.
    The job hunt may take longer than you anticipated and you don't want to feel pressure to take just any job.
