3/5 absolutely. Only because it's hard to fall behind when I'm only 24. And my boss's only promise is that I'll eventually be the head of the department. Or be paid what I'm worth. I only make half the market value for a small company as of now.

My job was so toxic, I took a pay cut just to get out of that hellhole.
When Iâve been in the same role for almost two and a half years and get no raise, not even a COLA increase, I have to look elsewhere. Itâs sad because I do like my current job and do a great job at it but the higher ups donât see my value so I need to see the value in myself. I make 47,500 now with 3,000 in bonuses and my new role will pay me 58,000 base plus 6-12k in bonuses along with much better benefits, Roth 401(k), more holiday time off, growth opportunities and more vacation time and will be remote even after Covid. Today is my last day and next week is my PTO time before starting after Labor Day. Iâm so glad I quit. Happy Friday!! đ

Was with a company 12 yrs & no raise since last promotion 4yrs prior.
Quit for new job paying $25k more. In that job 2.5yrs & no raise despite increasing responsibilities & good performance ratings.
Quit & starting new job next wk for $30k more.
Another tip, never quit a job before having another lined up, once youre unemployed your value as a worker decreases.

Another tip. When you quit your remote job, forget to tell your employer to see how long it takes them to figure it out.

What if they find out Iâm looking elsewhere for employment? Should I wait till they fire me for that? Or resign to save my reputation?

Did the same four weeks ago! Taught for almost 15 years then went to work in corporate America. Took a huge pay cut, entry level but loved the company. My former department was a filter for the rest of the division so as long as you did well it was guaranteed youâd move up. Earlier this year our division was sold and loathe the new company. Now, Iâm working on a few projects that I always dreamed about but never thought I could do it! I decided to finally believe in myself!
When you are so angry at work that you start drinking on your lunch break. That's a pretty good sign you should quit. On an unrelated note, if you dump a coconut vodka shooter into a blue raspberry Icee, you can drink on the job, and no one is the wiser.

My coworkers are great, and supportive. The job isn't technically a toxic environment, but it is not the career path for me. Unfortunately, I have never been able to really decide what is. I fall into that "without a plan" section; there's multiple things I think I could probably do, but I'm paralyzed to make a decision and go for something different. I just felt trapped in a job that doesn't work for me, and basically everything in the immediate vicinity is a pay decrease if I go to a more entry-level role. I'm also terrible at selling myself

If you are a worker over 50: DO NOT QUIT! There is only a 27% probability you will be able to find a new position within 6 months if you quit your current job. Agism is at all-time highs right now, and despite the fact that there is a labor shortage, few companies are willing to hire anyone over 50.

If people who came in with you or after you are getting promoted and you aren't then that's a sign you need to look.

I just want to say thank you.. 6 months ago i was miserable at my previous job, i felt stuck.. my body hurt everyday. Company owners didnt care that i wanted to grow with the company, it was toxic.. i was terrified to quit but now im so much happier.. your video, along with many others helped convinced me to take leap to another company.. my new bosses are the nicest people ive ever worked for and already got a raise... again, thank you man!!!
While my job has almost zero stress or negativity, itâs too easy for me. No upward mobility. Was just partially laid off as everyone cause they arenât making a profit. They are underpaying me for my line of work and region. Want to get something better

"Keeping up with your peer group", I feel like this concept is like "Keeping up with the Jones's". It reminds me of the idea that a lower end product which might suit your needs just fine is also considered "Entry level". The assumption is that you want/need to eventually get the more expensive version because if it's more expensive, then it's better. If it's better than you should aim for that. Maybe.. not always.
Agreed! This concept can be useful for people who measure their career success in very competitive terms. But I don't think it's healthy for a lot of people. Nothing wrong with settling somewhere that you're happy with.

I resigned recently for a couple of reasons. I was being under utilized, I would be made to do tasks that were well beyond my capability. I was in a low salary range and there was no opportunity for me to grow my career goals.
I took a job 2 years ago because I needed a new job in the state I moved to. 2 years later Iâm still stuck in this role. I send applications/resumes out everywhere and I just canât break away. I graduated summa cum laude 2 months ago with a bachelors in psychology and it still has made no difference in helping me find jobs. I make less than 40k a year while my friends are all making 50K+. Itâs figuratively killing me.

I hate the phrase â2-3% raise per yearâ. Inflation is like 1-2% per year. I think inflation is even going up due to covidâŠ

@@CodingAbroad It was 7% this last year! And because the gov't changes the items we base our inflation number off of with cheaper items, its a padded down number. Some say inflation was closer to 15% in reality!! I did some research lol

I was passed for promotion at my first job out of college. I decided to leave at the end of my contract, but I had a friend of mine at the company that had just been promoted (I did not get that advancement). There was the lapdog brown noser that tattled to the owner of the company. So one day I went into this tiny room with my friend and stated loud enough for the lapdog to hear. "Yeah, I will entertain staying here if I get a good raise." When the time came for a renewal the owner made an OK offer which I declined.
sure would be nice if I could get one but food service stuff I would be terrible at are all that is all I can reasonably expect to get that and doing taxes but that's only a thing 3 months of the year :T

I'm drastically underpaid for my type of work but at the same time, I feel like that my current work contract (that will end on a pre-notified date very soon) doesn't engage me that much either, aka not enough stuff to actively work on. Hi Brian, thank you so much for your videos. I want to double-check with you. It is ok to tell a recruiter or hiring manager that you left a previous job because you were underpaid. Some people say it's not good to complain about money, but honestly, I think that is the nr one reason why people switch jobs. Don't you think?

It would be a short video as most states are banning them in most circumstances. Also - Discussing the ins and outs of a contract might be considered practicing law without a license.
Just read the noncompete youâre presented with. I had one for a role Iâm quitting next week for a new job.
Mine stated for 1yr i couldnât do same role for a direct competitor. Also couldnât go to a customer & actively make them stop doing business with current employer. A few more things about poaching colleagues & proprietary info.
Depends on your job function & industry as to whether or not it makes a difference.
Dont just complain put the employer and job title on blast so hopefully things can actually improve!!

If you've been in that situation, your previous employer has given you a bad reference and your current employer just found out about it and now they don't want you around. So to get you out, they team up and get you out. It's wrong but it's happening

What if your a key engineer that is being overloaded, the company doesn't provide support even though you've asked and there is no direction. You are so burnout from your current job that your mindset is very negative and is preventing you from putting the best version of yourself out there to find a new position. Would you suggest quitting to focus on your mental health and finding the next step in your career, or stay stressed-out/miserable and try to find the next step in your career?

Great video, helpful info but making the decision can be very hardâŠ. 55+ year old, stuck in my current role and bored. Desperately want new challenges. And parts of the office are very toxic. This is only the 3rd employer I have had since college. Left the first one seeking what else was out there. 2nd employer turned out to be horrible and only stayed 13 months. 4+ years until retirement, canât decide if I just keep my head down and plow thru the next 4+ years or get serious about moving on. It's not just licensed professionals who need to run when the boss asks them to do something unethical. Even if your actions are legally the company's sole responsibility you still need to ask yourself if you would ever want to have to explain this to your children or to a future hiring manager.

Underpaid was me. I live in San Diego as an Accounts Payable Specialist and would help other departments in the warehouse making $17.50 hr. When I gave my notice for a career advancement and more money, they posted my position online starting at $20.00hr. Glad I left.
I change to a different role and become part time staff since july this year, then i have a career discussion with my boss to clarify is there any career progression on my role (it is a newly created role). She said i am the first part timer in the company and part time role not considered for career progression, and kept keep promising me a leadership role when i am ready to be back to full time. Is this a common phenomenon in multi-national company. I feel so undervalued and taken for granted even i commit and do above and beyond my current job scope. Is it common mindset for employer to have discrimination for promotion for part time worker? Thanks and appreciate for your advice.
I'm wondering the same thing. My son works for Amazon and got a $2 raise last week. I have a degree in accounting and he makes more than I do! When I mentioned this to my boss, she said it's because I work part-time. I don't think that should make a difference. My work has value, whether I work 20 hours or 40 hours.

I'm going to apply to a new job because the hours here are slow and competitive, I don't get along so well with my coworkers, and I can't stand my boss. Both applications (that I found online) ask about my previous workplace and my employer. One says "Company, Phone, Address, Supervisor, Job Title, Starting Salary, Ending Salary" etc. The other mentions employer's name and address. So either company would really contact my boss? I don't want that; I worry she would make me look bad. I admit, I've made mistakes at my current job that she's witnessed. Not enough to fire me, but still. I mean, sure, I'm a very hard worker, and she once thanked me for it (though it sounded fake in tone, like she was JUST saying it). BUT...there were times I seemed irresponsible. I'll spare the time on the details unless someone asks for it. Let's just say she isn't so much the context-understanding type (especially since my learning disability makes me do "dumb" things). She's one of the reasons I want to leave the job: to stop feeling like an idiot and be more competent somewhere else. And that's precisely one reason I do _not_ want her speaking of me for this other job. Meanwhile, for said mistakes, how do I know she won't mention them, thus costing me my potential new job? _IS_ her name and address so they can contact her?
I work for the state I live in doing Food Stamp applications. Once you take this position even if you have children which I donât you canât get food stamps. Long story short they started taking out our pension which old school people say is so great and my family has been telling me Iâm a failure my whole life because I didnât have a pension although I have a IRA personally, and every job I had offers 401K. Bottom line is with inflation and the state taking $200 from each check for retirement which doesnât include my taxes which is over $200. My pay with both checks is minus $400 because of a pension. Also I have been downloading fast food apps just to get a free meal. Sometimes I run out of food a week before pay. Isnât that a reason to quit? I have another job offer.

With a plan you seem to mean a fairly detailed plan, or not? If detailed, I tend to disagree you need it. Might help, but you're fine with a more general idea of where you wanne be in 5, 10 and 15 years.
I ultimately had to quit my last job because of a horribly toxic manager. When I asked her if she knew what her if she knew what her people were doing in their roles, she said she didn't feel that was a good use of her time and then asked did I? I was exasperated and said yes. I ended up quitting but I was told to by a recruiter that I should say I was laid off because of covid. Now I'm still looking for a job and getting depressed. Actually, now that I think about it, this sounds like an effective recruiter if they were telling you to lie to get a job. They used to say the language of business was ACCOUNTING. Today the language of business is lying and misrepresenting among other nefarious behavior. Your recruiter was trying to orient you to today's work environment of toxicity, boorishness, unprofessionalism and immature substandard behavior for any human being. Thank God I am old enough to retire and escape this hellscape.
You always say that leaving a job too early might give recruiters the Idea that you are a job hopper... But what if I max out at a job in one year?
I don't think that would be job hopping. Really it's not uncommon to job hop these days.
I'm in a dilemma. Years ago I told my supervisor I wanted to learn every aspect of my department. He immediately told me that my co-workers in various positions will not want to slow their pace to train me. Not long after, a young woman who got hired after me was sent to train in one of the areas I said I wanted to be trained in. I have been working at an entry level position for 7 years now. Another person was hired two years after me and is not working in an entry level position anymore. Everyone in my department is moving on and it seems like the boss wants to keep me where I am. I've updated my resume and have been applying to jobs for three months but nothing is happening yet. I'm in between wanting to leave the job and feeling like if I get a job offer it will be rescinded and I'll be left with no job.

I worked a very crappy company during the pandemic. Didnt have a choice with the lockdowns we had in place. Even had to take a pay cut. It took 3 months to find out from a shift supervisor. I do armed security. The hoops they had us go through were already ridiculous. I was driving 100 miles a week. Burning a crap ton of gas. I did not get reimbursed. I would always get text messages about how much I was appreciated driving so much. Every time I brought up a raise. I wouldnt get a text message for a few days. Company got bought out. Pay went down even further. I had enough of the b.s and turned my uniforms in. They also ordered everyone to turn in their firearms as well. No tools to defend ourselves. You have people spending over 2000 grand out of pocket. For state permits, testing, training, and have to spend a crap ton of money at the range. Plus take a psychological test. To screw with people that hard. Management needs to get fired an sued. Way to many jobs try to take advantage of people to much. They seriously sit there, and wonder why they can't keep people.

Unfortunately Allied Universal bought out G4S. I use to work at the Bank of America sites. Now some dude in corporate decided to save a few bucks. Ordered all guards to turn in their firearms. Not allowed to wear any gear. You are not allowed to defend yourself. We were seriously flat out told that if we see any trouble. Try to hide, and call 911. Like what the actual f###? We were dealing with crazy people already. Lets make the job more dangerous. And punish everyone that spent all that time, and money on training for their firearm permits. I in good conscience for my personal safety. Plus all the hard work I put in. I couldn't stay. Im not going to work even longer hours for much less pay. This how freaking crappy the company was, and greedy with money. My dog passed away. I wasnt allowed time off to deal with it. If you didn't work. You dont get paid. That didnt sit right with me. And the main manger rubbed me the wrong way after that. You simply are not allowed time off unless you have a doctor's note. They also dont see animals as people. Ill never work for that company ever again.

All the signs fit my situation but I just can't get a look in as they say I am too "hoppy". Meanwhile ladies can switch jobs every year and to better company and pay doing non-technical jobs.

Only looks bad if you care. Most employers will only confirm employment dates. Possibly confirm whether eligible for rehire but that opens them up to potential liability.

Almost 6 years at this place and there are guys here who do braindead jobs and make way more than me. I've checked put. I don't want to come back next year. I'll try for LTD for mental health (very legitimate reasons;documented), if that fails, personal leave of absence. By law they can't fire me for 13 months, so I'll still be on the books while I go to school

Some of these are just so utterly strange to listen to. "First sign is that you're bored at work." This one is so confusing, and it made me lol.

I'm 40. I've had probably a hundred or so jobs in my life. I've never, ever worked an office job that involved any actual work. I'm told to come in, sit down, and that's it. There's literally never any work. I can only last at a job for as long as I can stand sitting and staring at a wall. Asking the boss if there's any work I can do always gets them annoyed, and the answer is "no just sit down and chill" or "it's a low key day" or something like that. Actually I can remember 2 jobs -- just 2 -- that actually involved some point-and-click on a computer. But nothing consequential.

This has changed my view on capitalism. First, it's simply not true that people hire employees when they need work done, or that they act out of self-interest. I've lasted at jobs for over a month and never once did any work, despite repeatedly asking for work. Secondly, it makes me wonder how the nation produces goods and services. Sure there's factories that make finished goods, but there's sooooo many jobs where we literally don't work, yet we get paid by the hour.

You should quit your job if you're bored at work? I've yet to see a single office job outside of a small handful where anything ever happens. I can't understand how you could NOT be bored. The way you describe it in your videos, it sounds like, somewhere out there, there's jobs where you get hired, and you're actually expected to do things. It makes me think that there has to be an entire world that I'm somehow just not aware of.

You dissect the problems very well but not so much the solutions.
the result is that following some of your videos, especially after suffering layoffs only brings a general drop in mood.
I am not saying that what you explain is not real, just not helpful at all.
Investing in crypto is literally the best thing to do now especially now the crypto market is unstable.

Dislike video simply for the fact that I have to watch 2 15-second ads without skipping for a 8 min video.
