The REAL Reason Why People Don't Want To Work Anymore
The REAL Reason Why People Don't Want To Work Anymore. There's a certain group of people out there who think people are just lazy. But we know this is BS. The fact is that for most job seekers, the rewards just aren't there to invest in a career. At least not in the way we had been taught. So, in this video, I share what I feel the REAL reason is that people aren't passionate about work and what to do about it.

This is total BS! If you even make it up to being a manager they will transfer you all over the place so much that you'll eventually just give up and quit. They do basically the same for assistant managers too. Some of the managers might be making over a hundred thousand a year but there's little if any that make a half million. I don't think their district managers make anywhere near that much either. When I worked for Wally world years ago they would try to convince even their minimum wage workers that they would retire from Walmart with a 401k worth a couple million dollars. How many companies in the entire country are handing out half million dollar jobs to anyone, but especially to people with a high school diploma?

A lot of the reasons employees are treated as they are today is the result of "globalization". It was sold as a way for the West to compete, but it just dragged the middle class standard of living lower. Globalization was about accessing lower labor costs of exploited people outside the U.S. That happened because there is no longer a party that represents the middle class. All votes in Congress are for sale, no matter which party. Voter appathy & learned helplessness are the cause of that! Don't be apathetic. Support Ranked Choice Voting. This avoids the "Spoiler Effect" when a 3rd party candidate or independent runs. It also gives more voice to the Center and less to the extremes. Enough with the Red / Blue rage. Niether of those care what you think when laws are being made. Also fight for Campaign Finance Reform. Fight to overturn "Citizens United". All this leads to laws and policies that support large donors, not the working class. A balance needs to be restored.

Not an application interview but I once had the strangest exit interview. The district manager conducting it was not accustomed to female employees (auto repair and tire chain). That made sense, at the week-long training class for assistant/service managers that I attended (where I found out my store manager had been ripping me off on expense vouchers) there were 43 guys and 3 women. There were no other females in-store management positions in our district. He already knew why I was leaving, husband in the military and being transferred overseas (accompanied tour so the kids and I were going with him) so he launched into his favorite story (I'm guessing) about loyalty to the company and how when his wife was in labor he took her to the hospital and then went to work since "there was nothing I could do there". I pointed out to him that I didn't have the option of doing that since I was the one giving birth. While he was floundered about that I added that both times my husband was in the delivery room with me, holding my hand, helping me breath, feeding me ice chips, etc. He stopped, wished me good luck, and fled.

There is no loyalty today. And that goes both ways. The problem is employers expect you to be 100% dedicated and to give two weeks notice when you leave but they can give you your walking papers on a whim. Then walk you out like a perp. P.S: Leaving a job to take care of a dying parent or a young child should be rewarded and commended. Unfortunately, I’ve had to explain my resume gap and these reasons don’t seem to help. And I’ve had to take pay cuts just to get back into the workforce. Such bullshit!

It has nearly killed me and did kill my husband. I was forced to sell to an investor due to the lien. I was current on my loan when they stopped taking payments. Foreign investors are buying all the real estate. They are selling our land out from under us. The American dream is dead. God help us all. I really (dislike) recruiters right now, and I am being kind. Why can't a recruiter just say 'you weren't chosen to move forward'. And stop it with the salary requirements. If you recruit a great/high performing employee and start them out below market value, expect them to leave for higher pay and not give the company a shot at upping pay or a promotion. Used car salespeople are higher up on the societal rung than recruiters right now. Sorry, most on here feel this way. I am sure you're a great person but man the talent acquisition department can fall off a cliff.

I've been a remote worker since 2019 and just this past April was laid off from my job at a fully remote company. Based on who was let go I'd say location was the biggest factor because I brought in 74% of all new business revenue in 2023 but they kept the person who brought in 24%. The difference is I'm the only person in the whole company based on the west coast while my teammate was in NYC where our company's US HQ is located. It's possible gender played a part as well as my team was already 80% female and the only ones let go were men. I don't think gender was intentional. I think it was subliminal. So I've been actively job searching for 2 months now. I'd estimate less than 10% of the open roles I'm qualified for are full remote. The rest expect you in the office at least 2-3 times per week. Further, 90% of those roles are based in SF/bay area and NYC so if you're not local to those areas you're immediately disqualified. In my industry if you're not based in those 2 areas and you're between jobs, you either need to move or change industries. It's beyond frustrating.

I saw people who were middle management for 20 yrs at a company get fired that day because his salary was all of a sudden too high. Ive seen sales people be dropped, marketing staff. No notice. I always felt this was wrong and it should be law that companies give notice of 30 days and in return employees give the same.

There is another "cure" for the housing problem. They could build affordable housing. Lots of it. But right now they are not incentivized to do so, because people and corporations are making a ton of money on high-end luxury homes and rentals. It's driving up prices across the board.

FYI for you younger folks... I'm a 55 yo GenXer, I've been dealing with bad employers and jobs for over 40 years (been working since I was 15). This is nothing new. The days of "work at company X until you retire" died way back in the late 80s and early 90s. Bad employers and jobs have been taking advantage of workers for quite a long time now. My generation has somehow tiptoed through the minefield of this BS since most of you were either little kids or not even born yet and we're still here, dealing with the same crap as we were 25, 30 and 40 years ago that you are all thinking is some new crazy phenomenon. We've been dealing with real life BS since we were early teens, now you guys know what it's like to have to be an adult... Welcome to the real world. Enjoy!

This whole thing of encouraging people to get internships is tone deaf and ridiculous. Those internships are going to be just as pick or possibly even more picky in choosing the applicants than when applying for real jobs. Additionally fewer and fewer companies will even do internships so there is only a very small percentage of college students who are going to ever get internships. I am older than most of this videos target demographic, I am almost 30, but the thing that most ruined the job market for all generations and especially gen-z is the massive outsourcing of jobs that happened during and after Covid. I know this all too well as someone who got a degree in Computer Science and I have 5 years of work experience in the field at this point, with 2 years of that at a Fortune 500 company that I got laid off from because they laid off 85% of their local staff because of Covid. I can't get a job in that field at this point because all the jobs for this level of experience(mid-level developer, QA, data analysis, etc...) have all been outsourced to foreign countries where the amount they are paying workers is something you can not compete with at all. For the smaller scale companies that are still hiring developers in this country, there is still the same amount of people looking for these jobs but far less companies that will hire for those positions. This makes people desperate and willing to take lower pay in spite of their skills and years of experience. Hell even senior developer positions are starting to be outsourced. Basically what I am saying is, the job market is fucked and it will not fix itself without government intervention, but we all know that no matter what happens they will not intervene. I don't even work in the tech field anymore, I work as an insurance analyst for a company that analyzes bank loans.

I like the above young Bro. He has a very "Don Rickles" Style Attitude about being bluntly honest. Not that long ago, such an attitude was looked at as attractive in a "Business Hiree". Not so much nowadays. Now they want a person who comes off like an "Unemotional Robot". Which is utterly stupid of course....AND NO, I DON'T WANT OUR ABOVE BRO GIVING UP HIS PERSONALITY JUST TO GET HIRED !

This year has been hellish. Several months of searching for senior-level jobs, and getting nearly no interviews. Night and day compared to three years ago and hugely demoralizing at this point in my career
