As a suffering leaf fan for 32 years..everything u said is 💯 correct 😔 I didnt think Keefe was that bad of a coach but he clearly was NOT the right guy for a team like this..overthinking lineup combinations, poor motivation tactics, getting outcoached in every playoff series, not calling out their "stars" etc. I blame the president mostly for this teams failure Mr. Brendan "Shannaplan" i loved him as a player growing up bc he was tough as nails, 600+ goal scorer, 3 stanley cups, olympic gold..but he ain't Management material. I know for a fact his biggest regret was letting Lou walk for Dufas! 🤦♂️
The contracts were not so bad in the dollar amount it is the NMC. Once it was clear the approach didn't work the Leafs were (and are) locked into the players and can't trade them.

@@red3here Great , you re a good regular season team , but a playoff joke ......... Look at the Bruins last year , top dog in the regular season , and out in the first round . Regular season is good for the stats , but for legacy and history it s the playoffs. This is exactly why you end up with this kind of videos , 69 goals in regular season , congrats , that s a great achivement there , no doubt . But for what in the end ? Nothing. I ll take guys like Kucherov , Mc David , MacKinnon any day over Matthews , why ? Cause these guys make their team play better and not just make themselves look good , and that s exactly why Matthews is not in the hart trophy race this year in my advice.

lol. Leafs aren’t winning the cup. Their chances go even more down to make the playoffs if they dump Tavares and Marner.
Matthews should be traded first and foremost - he's good only in the regular season, but a disappearing act in the playoffs. I'd rather build around a guy who would day-in-and-day-out will show up. And I'm pretty sure Matthews wants to return to play for a team in the States and the reason he's still in Toronto is for the money.

Dubas kept bringing in Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds alumni! Basically, you have to get a variety of former CHL, NCAA, USHL import draft, and NHL draft picks that are NHL players. He got too comfortable with players he knew from his days as a GM in Sault Ste. Marie. Ray shero is a good choice

In the past, during his best years Tavares used to be a star player. He is still working hard, trying his best, but he long passed his best years and is not among league’s elite.
Marner.., well, he is still a very skilled player, but he is not a super star. He lacks grit and diversity to justify his claim on more than 10% of team’s salary cap.
Mathews also lacks grit, diversity and mental toughness, but at least he is the most prolific goal scorer this league has seen in generation. However, for his talent to bloom Mathews needs a solid entourage capable of pulling defense apart and allow him opportunities. Mathews needs first line wingers, like McDavid now having brilliant Draisitle and Hyman.., like McKinnon having Rantanen and Chu-Chu Train. Look, you gonna assign your best guys to neutralize McDavid? Well, his wingers will carry scoring with the same, or even greater efficiency. The same is with McKinnon. That’s why Val Nichushkin and Zack Hyman now lead playoff with 9 goals each.
Domi and Bertuzzi are solid and gritty 3-rd liners, but they are not a first line wingers!!! They are not 40-50-goal scorers who are capable of bringing best out of Mathews! Yes, great McDavid wasn’t league’s top goal scorer this season, not even close. But he was the -3-rd overall in points, and he shared highest assist mark with great Kucherov at 100 pts. And it’s all because he played with Draisitle and Hyman!
Well, I would agree that Keith had to go, but he is not the one who built this team. He worked with what he got. Team’s composition and depth are in GM’s hands, not in Coach’s….
