When you listen to The Cure, you feel happy and depressed at the same time.
I have to agree..... Makes me think of the past the good and the bad times
This is why I love the Cure. No other band/music makes you feel that way.
neh it,s perfect to listen when study... 🇧🇷
Completely true

I'm no expert on the corona-virus, but this is The Cure.

The Cure was one of my older daughters' favorites. She even dyed her hair black and wore it in long strings. I didn't care for them back in the 80's. She passed away in a car accident in 1987 at the age of 18, a senior in high school. I miss her and her music. I would just like to add, please be sure that you all buckle up. Not doing so cost me my big girls life.
SORRY I'M SO SORRY😢😢❤❤❤
Thank you@@MarekTomczynski-gi7dv . Appreciate your thoughts.
I am so terribly sorry, my heart is broken for you. 💔Your daughter would probably be very happy you’ve brought some of her favorite music into your head.
I am 57, and the mother to a senior in high school, and cannot imagine the pain you’re living. Please stay strong @neillflate7871
SORRY I'M SO SORRY I UNDERSTAND YOU -I FEEL SAD ABOUT THIS!!!

❤ So true, we are going to stay here forever
If we don't ask WHO'S still here... someone might be lost 😢

I was in college when this song came out. I remember dancing with my girlfriend countless times as we listened to it. We were young, in love and everything was possible. I eventually lost that girl as life sent us down different paths. Years later, I got the news that she passed away from cancer. Every time I hear this song, I go back to dancing with her with this song framing the moment. It's a perfect memory I hope to keep with me for the rest of my days. Peace.
Muy triste 😢
I'd like to know her name
You are lucky to have such a treasured memory...
Great story brother. I hope you doing good and still like this song.
And just with that memory alone she still lives on.
Peace brother ✌️
People think The Cure were depressing....no they weren't...this song uplifts me every time I listen to it, a beautiful song full of feeling and also pain.
So true 👍
Same here 👍👍👍
He's talking about a drowning person...he knows how to combine depression and pop, very well. Give a listen to "Cut here" and then research what is about.
Me too. I was born in 1974. This for me was middle school to high school memories. Little did I know those were the best days of my life. Skipping school for the beach now and then playing this music on a tape recorder. But that was a very different time. This world is evil. Run by evil.

I’ve been in love with the Cure for decades. I guess I always will be. Thank you thank you thank you, guys, for everything you’ve given me.
Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream she said
The one that makes me laugh she said
Threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it and I'll promise you
I'll promise that I'll run away with you, I'll run away with you
Spinning on that dizzy edge
Kissed her face and kissed her head
Dreamed of all the different ways, I had to make her glow
Why are you so far away she said
Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you?
That I'm in love with you?
You, soft and only, you lost and lonely
You, strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone, alone, alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved and drowned her deep inside of me
You soft and only
You lost and lonely
You just like heaven

Real music cannot exist on TikTok. Real music is unapologetic and can't be cancelled because someone "feels" offended by it. Real music came from a time when there was such a thing as an album.

I was listening to this when it first came out
As a teenager and young adult, I listened to The Cure on and off. Today, at 53, everything has calmed down. Nevertheless, I always come back to this unique band and their introspective music. Timeless!
Its amazing that me an 18 year old could have possibly discovered such a timeless and truly beautiful song in the same lifetime as someone who was born decades before me, keep rocking man 53 years young I say.
I´m over my 37s and can´t believe that I didn’t listen this song before, its true a magnificent work. The sound of every instrument in companion with the voice and letter is as its described just like heaven
I'm 19 and I can't believe I haven't heard this song
I remember standing outside of a restaurant downtown, balancing on the curb and waiting for some friends to arrive when this song started playing over the outdoor speakers. I started singing along (because how can you not?) and a stranger walked past me and started singing it with me. He was smiling wide and said "Isn't this the greatest song ever!?" and I was like, "YES. YES IT IS." Every time I hear it now, I think about that moment. Perfect music connecting us and bringing us happiness.

This is the level of songwriting I miss in today's music. If this was released today it'd still be a hit. Timeless.
@iamtomjonmoon i wonder...you may be right ,very SADLY,yess indeed ... ( well, impossible to know for sure ) Long Live The cure
No it won't. It's too complex for today's ADHD crowd with the attention span of a goldfish. If it doesn't have the same 3 chords looping over and over while the singer sings the lyrics in a monotone (it's literally one note in most songs these days), then it won't be a hit.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity I think that's a bit unfair to some of the amazing artists that are finding success today. Even thought it's a different genre, someone like Kendrick Lamar has made one of the most instrumentally rich and complex albums of the past 30 years in To Pimp A Butterfly, filled with jazz chords and very technical delivery, and still found a ton of mainstream success. I understand people are always nostalgic for different times, but blinding yourself to all new music because of a preconceived notion that it's repetitive and dumb is just completely unfair
correct!
@@maxvermeij1779 Seeming complexity of music doesn't raise its worth. In musical terms Just Like Heaven is a pretty simple song and you can even hear all the instruments and parts they play if you really want to. But Nostalgia for Infinity said something different. He obviously didn't talk about overcomplicated and overproduced music but about mainstream and mummble rap. Check out the recent top songs and most viewed music videos and you will see that he's actually right about that.
Now, I believe there are still some talented artists but they do go by unnoticed. One of the most talented songwriters of our time is Ron Sexsmith and no one know about him. So if this song was released today it's hard to say it would have been noticed. And it surely won't be among hits you hear on radio etc.
One of the best pop songs ever written.
One of the most beautiful alternative love songs in the last 37 years. It's so timeless it's iconic and an absolute masterpiece.
There aren't that many perfect songs, but this is one of them. From the way it starts, the instruments layering on each other, the bassline, guitar riffs, poignant keyboard, drums, and then the eloquent vocals telling such an evocative story. So, so good.
Blinding tune - that reminds me of my youth when I had hair and was slim 😀

Why didn't I discover this song earlier 😭😭 I'm in love with this song.
Growing up as a teen in the 80's, I never really liked the Cure, I was mainly into the pure synth pop music. My roommates in high-school LOVED the cure and played the all the time. Now that I am re-listening to all those songs from back then, I feel as if my heart is going to explode, I simply *LOVE* every single song, I feel so lucky because it's like I'm hearing it for the first time
I liked it ALL! Goth/ punk & PIL & Thompson twins as well.
Those were the days. Saw PIL in concert in Detroit 30+ years ago. Johnny Rotten mooned the crowd. Good times.
Similar. I hated them in the 80's, thought they were boring and posturing. Revised my opinion recently and reject my stoopid youthful opinion. I recant! Love this band totally respect Robert Smith.
😄 Agreed. I hated The Cure in 1987. Everyone else loved them......Now finally understand.

The Cure were so ahead of their time. This still sounds modern
nah this 80s
modern indie was influenced by only the best, like the cure, the smiths, joy division
@@eatsumrice yes I know that, what I'm saying is, it still sounds modern. People still try to copy this style, ergo it is still modern. This song has modernity if you want to be pedantic
@@christycullen2355 is that not what music is all about? lol. rock is still a music genre lol its just not as popular. the cure isnt special. there are other bands as wel
Sounds so 80s
LYRICS:
"Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream", she said
"The one that makes me laugh", she said
And threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you, I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you
Spinning on that dizzy edge
Kissed her face and kissed her head
Dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow
"Why are you so far away?", she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you?"
You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must've been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone, alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me
You
Soft and lonely
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven
And she did run away with me....

Finally found this song takes me back to wonderful dreams. Thanks They are one of the GREATEST GROUPS. !!
The worst part of that song is that it actually ends so quickly...Amazing, just in love with The Cure!
It ends just like the love it describes. :-) No hints, no prior warning.. just comes and goes.
@@tolstoiknight What a nice interpretation

Hello, How are you doing? it’s nice seeing you here.
My mom used to love this band in the 80's and she still does. Now, I think I inherited her taste in music
Good for you
My oldest son, tells me, that my generation of 80s and 90s had the best music.

I think they had 6 band memebers here. 2 keyboards?
The Cure are (and always have been) cool as fuck. Everything about them. Their name, their style, their music. EVERYTHING !!
^^^ this comment >>>>> anything else
It's like a freedom music.
I am 70ish I love love cats.Its my happy
I never got to see The Cure live but it's always been a dream. Their music gets me up in the morning & I don't hate the world as much. Advice to anyone: as soon as you wake up, have the cure on your playlist & dance like it's the end of the world. I have BPD & CPTSD & this is the only thing that gives me the motivation to even get out of bed 🖤
Best 80s band. Listening in 2024.
If you know you know

Being a 14 year old and in love.. Or broken hearted and listening to this song on repeat was one of the most profound experiences in my life
I'm 52, and from listening to this at 17... yes, the feeling is still the same!
I just love how the song starts. They all start individually, and it forms this beautiful synthesis.
One of the best songs from the best decade ever for music hands down. How can you not love this song and feel energized by it?
This is why i decide to live in UK during 80s
Were you a goth??
when is the next british invasion?
@Jeremy Hoffman my guess is probably around 2020 - 2030
lucid_delirium why?
Jeremy Hoffman there are some good british artists
of the best songs in history
I think these are the greatest opening lyrics ever written
The woman who is dancing with Robert Smith is his wife, Mary Poole. They're so cute together
Julia Trindade I was going to ask that! 😍😉
Yes ahaha
Thank you Julia ; I was wondering ; I wished to know. Yes this is lovely and the music and lyrics are so good...
wow the video just got better
Jesus christ thats amazing x
I hope fans are still discovering The Cure. Such a timeless sound.
- 45 years later, it's still one of the greatest songs of all time.
This came out in 87, 37 years ago
