“Guys, I have an amazing idea for, like, my next 15 movies.”
You are a genius
the best comment here so far.
Though this was later than Tim Burton (1993) so the joke fails. Both Tim and The Cure are the greatest. Well, and Danny Elfman!
@Retro Workshop...you are accurate about dates! I remember both at the current year!
Tim Burton wanted Robert to play Edward scissorhands but because he was touring with the cure he couldn't

Such an eerie yet calming song. Like being all alone in the darkness, but it's utterly peaceful

Add clusters for tightness in your personal space, as in claustrophobia, for the cure of both depression and anxiety! I know, another phobia for a cure.

There is just something so magical and addictive in this song.
Addictive is right. This song is withdrawal Incarnate.
No way I could resist dancing to this as a kid. Spiderman and a pulsating beat? This is me around the house all day🕺🏽

LYRICS
On candy stripe legs the spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly a movement in the corner of the room
And there is nothing I can do
When I realize with fright
That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight
Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight
And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold
And the spiderman is always hungry
The bizarreness in this one its just amazing isnt it?
And people still think eillie bilish is the best whisper singer...
Nah ying yang twins done it better

When I was 10 years old, my dad showed me this videoclip and I absolutely loved it, the song too. Since I was little, my dad realized that I like "that kind of things" so he always was showing me Tim Burton movies and songs by the cure. He also read me Edgar Allan Poe's tales. I'm who I am because of him and I will be always proud of that.

@@qshkqn love what? Could you be a bit more specific?
Ash well, it's your opinion and I respect it. But you should respect mine, and also the fact that this type of music videos should cost alot of effort, money and work.
You're so lucky to have had a father like yours, and I understand how proud you are. I also received a lot of musical knowledge from my father, unfortunately he died when I was a child, I got a lot of his music taste from old memories and cassettes, but I also coincidentally liked other bands that I didn't know he used to listen to. That's why I think we carry music and sensitivity in our DNA.
Parenting done right! Congratulations! ^^
Such a sexy beat.. and that unforgettable “Spider-Man is having you for dinner tonight”.. just awesome! 😂❤
Hands down one of the best songs of the 80s.
Wow. I havent heard this in years. i was 16 when this came out. I remember having this album on cassette and walking to school in the morning listening to this. Walking in the cold fog in fall and winter. No one tells you when you are young that getting old sucks. For all you young people out there, dont get old. Stay young.
Hey late 40s aint that old...lol... We were in highschool in the early 90s so young people dont know how good we had it back then... You stay young!😁💪
Getting old beats the alternative.
I'm walking to work in the fog right now, in fall. I'm 29 and just discovering this wonderful music, and I feel as if I should have found it years ago

The Cure and Robert Smith have the ability to tell a story, to create a feeling, to bring you emotionally and, in some songs like this, physically into their music like few if any can do today. Their brilliance shines in the simplistic melodies they use. And that is not a put down. It's more of an appreciation of how great they are by being able to create such intense feelings with such precision and ease. They really are musical and lyrical royalty.

This video is so melancholic. I always imagine it as Robert feeling so depressed he can’t get out of bed. The “Spider-Man” is just a manifestation of his depression getting ready to take him over. I remember a year ago I had a day where is was so depressed I didn’t want to move and I played this song on repeat and watched the video and saw Robert feeling the same and hearing his gorgeous voice telling me he feels what I do. I helped me a lot. Might sound stupid but this song saved me

One of the best songs ever written... I remember being a child, watching this video on MTV, making me shiver by Robert's whispering voice. Not just the music, but the video concept and how it was accomplished, cannot be expressed with words. True masterpiece. I am happy that I could be a child in a time when music had a meaning and wanted to express feelings, situations etc not just a crap as today by collecting some samples and do something with zero meaning lyrics (if there is lyrics at all..)
I was 20 when this cure classic video came out..I remember thinking what a amazing weird song ,,NOW ITS A MASTERPIECE..
On candy stripe legs the Spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed

I'm the only one who thinks that The Cure has the greatest melodies ever? My god, that guitar riff might not be tricky or super complex but it totally works, is incredible, it almost sounds like unpredictble, I mean, when you start listening the riff you expect some other notes to be played, like "oh it's just another typical melody that it goes like this others". I know it might sound really stupid I just wanna know if someone shares my opinion xd (Sorry for bad spelling, english's not my mother tongue)
no se they’re just one of the greatest bands of all time let’s be honest

They should change the title of this song because when I was seven, my sister was away for a sleepover and she would usually sing me a lullaby, so I looked up lullaby on her computer and this one came up. this band was called "The Cure". it doesn't mean they were doctors or nurses.
this song was so ahead of its time....
How can it have been ahead of its time, if ninety percent of the music now is trite rubbish? It was in and of its own time which was a better one musically speaking than today.
***** if you read my comment, you will see, after a cursory glance, that I said ninety percent of today's music is trite rubbish which leaves a sizeable percentage for music of quality. Would you argue that Just 'in' Beaver, I mean Justin Bieber is good!? How could such music in anyway, shape or form be called an evolution of diatonic harmony? Incidentally, please keep your subjective impressions of me to yourself, I am probably the least 'nostalgic guy' you are ever likely to meet! Best wishes Villiago.
+MrSorintiberiu Todays music, is crap
That's bullshit, if you're listening to mainstream radio/watching MTV then yes, you're going to get generic shit. But make the effort to look around online and you'll find so many great bands/artists making incredible music. Glass Animals, Citizen, Wolf Alice, EDEN, The 1975*, Tremonti, Blues Pills, Stephen just to name a few in diverse genres (* Don't go for the obvious singles like Chocolate, The Sound or Girls, though they're also good, I'd recommend checking out Pressure, Me & The City)
I used to listen to the 1975 a while back and I found that their music was way to pop and theyre just worshiped by 12 year old girls... Although I love Meanswear
One of my top 10 favorites of all time! Saw you guys back in the early 90's. 🙌
Danke einfach nur Supi 😊❤❤❤Gruß Michael
This song is a masterpiece ♥️
Absolutely agree!
I believe that this song is more about capturing the atmosphere of the situation than anything else, it generally gives of the feeling of night paranoia and unrest. The song was clearly named Lullaby for a reason. The soothingness of the melody is most likely him trying to calm himself down and it is also trying to capture the serenity of the night. His whispers are basically interrupting the soothingness and are supposed to represent his thoughts running wild. The drums represent his alertness, he’s expecting something to attack him at any moment. Weirdly enough the song reminds me of the scary things I used to make up as a child. So I think him seeing himself in the window is him being scared of his own made-up fantasy, he alone is the cause of his unrest in a way. I interpreted the abrupt ending of the song as the sun coming out and ending the night terror. Every person can have a different interpretation , however, nothing is wrong or right.

No, the filmclip was inspired by Eraserhead (David Lynch) - the lyrics were inspired by a combination of a recurring dream he had has a child of a spider eating him, and the lullabies his father would sing him. They are amazing live aren't they?? :)
