- Hey you guys! In today's video, I will be using dookie gel AKA Ampro Prostyl Protein Gel, for a wash and go. This was a REQUEST. I used this gel back in my permed days for ponytails, but never on my natural curls for a wash and go. I also didn't know it was called dookie gel lol, but my follower insisted I put it in the title. Exactly, I've used this since way back and never called it or heard it called cookie gel. Hell half the time I feel like it is STILL my one true gel for hold. As so many of these newer ones either flake too much or cause me to be allergic to whatever chemical is in them. Had no beefs with Ampro style Eva!

I just heard about this, but my mom never had to gel our hair as kids, it was naturally laid. If our baby hair were curling and standing, you just took some hair greases and a thin bristle brush.
It works excellent on natural hair. Makes really defined curls. If you don't want it to flake after it dries (it won't flake unless you try to comb or brush after it's dry) put a little grease or oil in your hair first.
Never heard it called Dookie Gel ever 🙄 it's the first Gel that most all black girls used growing up. Makes me remember how i loved the hold it had. Must incorporate it back into my hair regimen.

I used this with some pink oil moisturizer lotion. I used to have the salon size tub of this gel. I used it for buns and ponytails. It would get hard as hell, but your hair would lay down! Lol 😂 I was born in the 80’s and we called it brown gel. I’ve never heard it being called dookie gel.

Haven't watched full video but Ampro gel is my favorite I've been using it to lay my edges since the beginning of my natural hair journey! Which was like 10 years ago. I like it cause it blends with the color of my hair and doesn't flake! I love this series idea
This gel was popular back in the 80's and early 90's for styles like finger waves and crunch waves. This brown gel is the original OG of gels🤔. The dookie name came about because it flakes.
Hmm, can't speak for everybody, but I think this is the only gel, I ever tried that never flaked on me. The newer ones for sure do.

I never heard of it being called dookie gel either. I was a teen in the 90's and we used it for our ponytails. We called it black gel or just prostyle gel. It worked well back then. I think i might try a wash and go like this.

The first day results are bomb, so much definition. I remember this gel when I was younger. I never used it on my hair because it was brown and I was scared that it would show up on my hair since I have naturally blonde hair.

My mom put me on to this gel to use for my sleek back ponytails and I swear by it now! It keeps everything in place and had a great hold! If u like your slick backs to be hard then this is the gel, and it doesn’t flake! Idk about for a wash and go but for my ponytails yes mama!
Omgosh! Thanks for the review. Just started growing my hair back out in March, and need a gel that’s gonna make my slick backs hard like a brick, lol. The only eco style gel that works for me is the olive oil one, but the fake is horrible!

I'm from the old school when we used this for stacked ponytails, swoops, finger waves and our edges and with called it "ampro" or "black gel" this was in the late 80'sand 90'scera. Now we did have "dookie" braids back then. If the alcohol content wasn't so bad it would actually be a great product. Seemed like I could smell it as you were applying it 😊

Ampro is messy and takes forever to dry but I love it! I’ve been using it for years. It gives my curls definition and keeps my edges smooth.

I’m sure the formula has changed since the 80’s because this stuff used to be able to slick down concrete and it almost always flaked!!! We just called it black gel not dookie gel but I’m from the south so maybe that’s the difference 🤷♀️

Yes it flakes but only how it did for you. Like when you shake your head flakes will fall but not like the buildup kind.
I am mainly white. Not sure what the PC term for white is now. However, I do have a few different ethnic groups running through me. Anyway, this is the only gel that works with my hair. Nothing else does. Do you have any ideas as to why? How does it work? This stuff is utter magic. I´ve been using this since 1994. NO OTHER PRODUCT WORKS!!!! What are your thoughts as to why?
