Excellent review! I've had my XPS 13 (9370) for about a month. Might be my favorite laptop ever.
Hey, great review!
Can I ask would u recommend this (top spec) model for use as a main/portable 4K video editing device?
Thank u.
Robert, just wanna say you do an awesome job with all your reviews! Thanks again!
It's been a long time since you guys made videos! Keep it up!!
What egpu case and card combo would you recommend as a good performance to price ratio? Say running medium setting on battlefield 1.
Excellent review! I am making this laptop my next laptop.
Will you suggest me this laptop for software such as revit and 3ds max and for rendering
Anybody knows if Akitio Node can charge it? Because 3rd port is not for charging.
hey guys... what about the whining coil sound in this laptop... fixed or what? please help me... cause I'm willing to buy ...
I use a lot (Autocad 2019, Revit 2019 and Solidworks). What is your recommendation a first-year school?
Ifound this in black but refurbeshed looks like new with your exact config i7 8gen 16g ram 512ssd 4k touch. Fingerprint... For 900€/ 6months warranty. should i get it?
I would love to see a head to head of the dell xps 13 vs lg gram and razer blade stealth (all 2018 models). I think that'll be a dope vid!
Is there a Dell XPS 13 2in1 coming out this year?
Great review! Missed you Robert!
Nice reviews - I bought the old 9360 with the 7th gen i5. I don't want to dongle to use basic USB ports and I only use basic productivity apps on my mobile machine. At the Dell outlet $630 for an 7th gen i5, 8G RAM, small SSD and a non-touch 1080P screen.
A very decent review in my humble opinion. Nice work!
Will there be a new xps 13 2 in 1 ?
"it's gonna be just as speedy as the last gen" WRONG. Actually dell re-made the cooling system here, which allows the processor to run at 25 watts tdp nonstop, which makes it far more powerful than the last gen model, which just didn't have enough headroom for such high heat output, which made it throttle at prolonged load for all 4 cores. This one however, doesn't throttle. Also if I'm mot mistaken, the 1080 version has FINALLY received a glossy covering, which means better colors, and there is no mention about it in the video.
I have the Dell xps 13 from 2015 and it still runs as good as the day I bought it. Battery life has gotten a little worse, but still easily goes 7 hours without a charge.
I freaking want this thing. Should i get this or an aw13 r3? I'm a programmer and i will start making Android apps and games using Unity and Android Studio.
Is it good for video editing and gaming
What is the model number of this one?
It doesn't make sense, does it? In my region the xps 13 is almost the same price as the 15'' 9570 with 1050ti i7 H ?!?
how often people actually use the web cam? I would always prefer thin bezels to have a web cam located in a good place which I barely use.
Businesses or conference calls. Skype to see your family.
The think I don't like the rose gold on the xps13 is the white is way too bright which might be too distracting working long hours on it.
Great review!
Awesome work!
They should remove the webcam altogether. Bundle in a plug in one with 1080p that attaches to the top but isn’t covering the thin bezel
It is not pretty much the same between the 9360/9370. The cooling system is completely revamped, and this necessitate rebenchmarking.
If they improved the build quality of the keyboard and palm rest area I would buy this in a heartbeat. My friend just bought one and cracked the palm rest by setting a coffee cup on it "too roughly".
who uses laptop camera... I have not touched mine in 2 years. And I just realized that a week ago... disabled it in drivers lol
Dymo people who aren't satisfied with taking selfies only via their phone
For Skype or Business calls.
wouldn't those people buy a decent external webcam anyway? even if they are placed correctly, built in cameras are usually shitty cheap afterthoughts.
michael jeacock no, for business meetings you just use the built in one. No one is going travel with an external Webcam for better quality.
michael jeacock the cameras in Microsoft surface products are fairly decent compared to every other laptop camera on the market
Coming from the Surface Pro line, the keyboard is terrible. The 16:9 screen is too short making it hard to fit a lot on to the screen, the 4K screen requires such high scaling that apps start to malfunction. Even the trusty Mail app from the Windows Store wouldn't render right. The USB-C ports strike me as not quite sturdy enough to be able to withstand the daily plugging in of chargers etc. All that said it was certainly fast and seemed stable for the short time I had mine. I had to return it.
Good video!
How much best compare to lg gram latest version head to head
This guy is a beast at reviewing laptops!
Thank you!
How much
What's this I keep hearing about fan noise?
Watching this on my 2016 XPS 13, glad to see it only took them 3 years to realize that webcam placement was the worst! If it had to be on the bottom, why put it off to the side in the first place?
Killer Wifi killed it for me. If they make an Intel Wifi version, I'll bite. No longer a changeable card on this new model. Great video. You earned a sub!
Is is touch screen ?
I like type A more that type C but what to do type C is the future and is better as compared to type A
Wallpaper?
He is the best laptop reviewer at technoBuffalo
Agree!
true
Dont be ridiculous
Speakers were improved, cooling system revamped. Overall I'd say it's a big improvement over last year especially the carbon fiber black model, that way that white bezel thing wouldn't be an issue and I prefer the carbon fiber. It's as big as an upgrade that you can do to a laptop the only thing I see it's missing is the base model ram should be 8 instead of 4 it's 2018 and the camera to be in a better spot but nothing is perfect and this is the closest your gonna get.
agreed.
XPS 13 or the new Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1? Starting college this fall studying finance. Looking to keep the same laptop for three years.
fenn want to know as well. I keep reading people complaing about the X1 though; quality issues.
I've had my '16 XPS 13 since my Sophomore year of college and it's great. Mine's just the base model (1080p display, i3 processor for longest battery life) but I've loved using it. Incidentally, I was studying Finance as well.
Either one should be more than enough for what you'll be doing, especially if you're just starting college. Go with whatever brand you have the most experience with.
I'd recommend XPS and if you want to save money look for one of the Skylake or Kabylake models on eBay.
Definitely go for the Dell. I love Thinkpads, but Dell gives you better bang for the buck and has outstanding build quality.
Between those 2 laptops for me came down to price and looks. Honestly if the x1 had a nicer looking keyboard, I would've gone for it, but I just don't like those keycaps at all.
The fingerprint sensor is not part of the Ubuntu xps 13 so it is not standard on all models. Nonetheless I have ordered a 9370 i7/16GB/512GB and really can not wait anymore.
Just buy the Windows version and install Ubuntu yourself. It's not a hard process, and it's worth it to get the fingerprint sensor.
AbuBakr Akram well you can‘t use the fingerprint sensor on ubuntu so why waste money for the more expensive windows version when you don’t use windows.
I just received my Dell XPS 9370 13” 4K UHD Touch Laptop and I had high expectations but I was let down.
First of all the keyboard is tight and it cramps my fingers as I am a fluent typer. It could also use a bit more hand space on the side of the keyboard.
The backlight for the keyboard turns off after two seconds and I constantly hit the mousepad to turn it back on so I can see the keys before I type (in the dark).
The screen resolution looks no different than the 1920x1080, just thought I’d put that out there.
The thin bezel on the screen is a nuisance because every time I go to re-position the laptop I inadvertently close a web page or document I’m working on because you are touching the corner of the actual picture on the screen where the “x” lies due to no bezel to grab.
The speakers are on the sides, which reduces your listening experience quite a bit.
That useless camera! You can’t see how you actually look on the screen because of the angle, when you are looking directly at your screen the camera is showing under your chin and up your nostrils, and when you look directly down into the camera to get a straight image of your face and eyes looking directly at the screen you won’t be able to see it yourself, so much for taking selfies or video chatting.
If the had to take these measures to make a lighter laptop I’d rather deal with a couple extra pounds.
I wish he would also review the surface book 2
The video quality on your videos are stelllar 🔥🔥🔥
This guy is pretty damn good in front of the camera, especiall laptop reviews
Thumbs up for Robert!
I would get the new HP Spectre x360 instead of this. Better IO, Better Webcam placement, imo better design while still being thin and light. Battery life is great too. Oh, and it has a touchscreen that can be flipped around and used with a pen...
Ok, so I get that your review unit was the Core i7 and thus there wasn't much improvement in terms of speed, but since the video basically covers the 2018 series (and not just one model) you could've said that the i5 model is a more major upgrade compared to the 2017 model since Coffee Lake brings 2x the amount of cores and threads in the i3 and i5 series.
We didn’t test it so we couldn’t say that.
Or 'could be a bigger upgrade as Coffee Lake blaba'. I get the argument, but it's meh. I really think this nuance in this case is important as this 'doubling the cores/threads' is one of Intel's biggest steps in recent history. People are going to make buying decisions on (video) reviews, and when they see a discounted 2017 i5 one they'll probably go for that as 'it's just as speedy as the last gen' based on this video. On every other generation I would've completely agreed, but with Coffee Lake it does deserve a mention as I (and probably other viewers) see this as a XPS 13 SERIES review. A little mention about a potential, more significant increase on particular models in the series(thus more than 'some kind of percentage increase'), even if it's not the tested model, would've been a good addition.
except the last model already had 8-th gen cpus. Check it out. However, it's cooling isn't as good as on the 2018 one, which makes it not as suitable for prolonged cpu loads.also the 8-th gen ulv processors are kabylake-r, not coffeelake. Coffeelake ones will come out soon this year.
It is because this is an advertisement and not a review. This generation has some new Issues and carried lots over from the last gen.
The last XPS (9360) had coffee Lake too, so performance wasn't much of a difference. The real things to take a look at is the new GORE thermal solution and the smaller battery life due to the thinness of the laptop
I am this close to buying this until I read about the problems with Killer Wifi...Based on the Dell forum boards, this is a common problem...Has anyone encountered difficulty with wifi connection? This would be a deal breaker for me....
I like this guy's reviews
Berto is awesome!
So this model doesnt have coil whine?
Santiago Alvarez mine does a bit when it charges, but it's barely audible, even when putting my ear up close to it.
I agree the Rose Gold / White combo doesn't have a high end premium look, and YES Dell needs to update the look of the XPS 13, it's what has been holding me back from buying one.....snooze and compared to the Spectre X360 the XPS 13 falls short in styling.
wish it comes in all black color
Can you please suggest "The Best" Laptop for around $500-$600?
Please... Thank You!
I know Im not from TB but look for a laptop with an ssd and an i3 processor. The IPS panel and backlit keyboard are extras but they are well worth it. Do not go for some cheap amd or old nvidia graphics solution. If you buy a 7th or 8th gen i3, the integrated GPU will outperform them anyway. SSD is a must even if it's 128GB. It makes the whole system so much more responsive.
You don't necessarily need to purchase a new laptop. You could probably get a refurbished or used XPS 13 for a couple hundred. The processor may only be a few generations old.
I just purchased dell vostro 15 5568 for 700. It has the best hardware for that price. I know u said 600 but with 100 more u get a better gpu and an ssd, which is worth it imo. The gpu it has is even capable to game, more than the intel hd 620...
Thank you'll but I am thinking to go for Custom PC as I only want it to use it in home for some basic things like transferring files, Making documents & Presentation etc and some light gaming.
Epiclifery Active yea. Much better choice. But before u buy. U have to ask ur self if u want something u can bring wherever u go or something powerful but not having mobility. If u travel stuff vs home. Anyhow good luck.
I like this new guy better than the other new guy.
2:54 serious screen tear and lag and stuttering. We have quality control problem here !!!
Slightly improved? How?
Is it fast for coding and 3D designing
yes
Damn, Dell, the lg gram fixed the webcam issue...
good video
Nice advertisment but the thing is plagued with bad Q&A also all I have seen do have coil whine when plugged in and the CPU throttels to a level where a t480s I5 version scores better at cinebench. Did I mention its noisy when plugged in? Also really bad ghosting on the display which shows in several reviews. Wireless card has issues as well (check reddit).
Holy shit all those reviewers do show nothing but paid ads and I am sick of it.
I also hate the white. Was wondering if I was the only person in the world with an unusual taste. Please review the matebook X Pro in comparison to this dell
I still find it funny that tech reviewers always push for USB C then complain when there is no USB A.
How can it possibly be the best if it still struggles with flaws such as coil whine?
I havet used a laptop since 2015 wow 😱
Wish it had the mx150
I have this laptop, the 4k i7 model. Great laptop but no way you are going to get 10 hours of use on it as mentioned in the video.
Should I get this or wait for MacBook Pro 2018?
Chotu Chaiwala this
Durararide!! Reason??
Chotu Chaiwala feel like the adv/software that OSX offers is more useful with a gpu. So either get a 15" macbook with a dgpu or get a 13" Windows laptop. Just my opinion. Or an XPS 15". The main advantage with apple machines IMO is that there seems to be significantly less complaints about one off problems, where if you look at current razor machines, XPS, etc there are a lot of quality control complaints. My preferred environment is windows currently.
I've got this one: i5 with 8gb in black. Great performance, light gaming is fine. I swapped from a MacBook pro.
Vinnie Sifter I have never bought a apple product so I am a bit confused and being a student I who creates videos I am going for Mac for Final Cut for saving time and also I will do programming. Also,I will most probably get 13" as 15" is out of my budget
Please review Bphone and Mobiistar from Viet Nam
I'm waiting for XPS 15 9570
Review huwawei matebook x2
if had the money I would buy it.
Surface book 2?
2015: "THE BEST ULTRABOOK ON THE MARKET!"
2016: "Still The Best"
2017: "It's One of the best"
2018: "Is it still in one of the best?:
Sorry but I can't see a device with more cores performing the same as a device from last gen that has a lower core count and older hardware. :-/ Especially not on video editing or content creation in general since that benefits pretty heavily from a higher core count. @ 3:25
the last gen had 4 cores actually...however, the newer one has better cooling, which allows it's cpu to run at higher clockspeeds for longer.
2:38..Yes..the uhd panel DOES look exceptional....until you try to ACTUALLY READ text WITHOUT messing with the damn dpi setting from 100% aka stock. Get real otherwise.
4GB Ram in the base line is a too little, in my opinion =D
TechnoBuffalo Good for school?
Definitely. Probably don't need the top of the line model though.
One question i hope it gets answered here, is cortana better than siri?
🤷♂️
the sound is wired.
I highly recommend NOT to take the 4K option
It'll kill your battery in no time
We're talking about a 3 h difference
1. Get rid of the dell logo and give us a 3:2 or 16:10 display. 2. Keep at least one usb-A port (if hp X360 2 in 1 can do it, so can Dell). 3. Don't ever list the 4gb ram option for a laptop of this caliber. 4. Give us a black or space grey color option.
XuQi Feng the Dell logo is never going to come off lol come on dude it's Dell. But I agree with having the larger aspect ratio. It would allow the screen to be bigger, room for a larger trackpad and battery, etc.
Stop complaining about the camera placement. There is no place else they can put it.
what you mean slight upgrade, dual core to quad core is a M A S S I V E upgrade
No. USB type see should be the standard by now.
Doodles music at the beginning. xD
practically sleep youth citizen card reduce sometimes confront.
the processor is different. 8th gen has true 4 core
so? the last gen has a 8-th gen version as well.
TB3 is here, its not the future. Using a MBP 2017, the 4 x TB3 ports are the best thing about it.
What the hell is there a micro SD card slot? Full size SD or nothing, it's not like my camera take micro SD, so that slot is useless to camera guys like me anyways!
You can use micro sd with an sd adapter.
I love it
The camera on the bottom is really annoying and a horrible choice by Dell.
Anthony Menegoni who uses the built in camera ?
Remember when 15" was standard ? & nothing wrong with the size :)
therealknapster ppl getting picky
I think 15” laptops are the perfect size!!
nahh somepeople dont need bigger screen on a mobile computer
Well it was bigger laptop with almost the same width of the screen due to the big bezzels, shrinking the bezzels allowed for a bigger screen with smaller laptop
If only it had atlease an Nvidia mx150
I have an XPS 13 from 2016 and I will probably only get XPS 13 in the future. That being said, I refuse to get one until they fix this camera issue. I should not be paying $2000 for a laptop with such an easily solvable problem. End the neck fat view!
Damn, it looks cheap af.
Saint it definitely feels cheap af in person too, but the normal one is straight up quality
