    Nice reviews - I bought the old 9360 with the 7th gen i5. I don't want to dongle to use basic USB ports and I only use basic productivity apps on my mobile machine. At the Dell outlet $630 for an 7th gen i5, 8G RAM, small SSD and a non-touch 1080P screen.

  • @TabalugaDragon

    "it's gonna be just as speedy as the last gen" WRONG. Actually dell re-made the cooling system here, which allows the processor to run at 25 watts tdp nonstop, which makes it far more powerful than the last gen model, which just didn't have enough headroom for such high heat output, which made it throttle at prolonged load for all 4 cores. This one however, doesn't throttle.Also if I'm mot mistaken, the 1080 version has FINALLY received a glossy covering, which means better colors, and there is no mention about it in the video.

    Coming from the Surface Pro line, the keyboard is terrible. The 16:9 screen is too short making it hard to fit a lot on to the screen, the 4K screen requires such high scaling that apps start to malfunction. Even the trusty Mail app from the Windows Store wouldn't render right. The USB-C ports strike me as not quite sturdy enough to be able to withstand the daily plugging in of chargers etc. All that said it was certainly fast and seemed stable for the short time I had mine. I had to return it.

    Speakers were improved, cooling system revamped. Overall I'd say it's a big improvement over last year especially the carbon fiber black model, that way that white bezel thing wouldn't be an issue and I prefer the carbon fiber. It's as big as an upgrade that you can do to a laptop the only thing I see it's missing is the base model ram should be 8 instead of 4 it's 2018 and the camera to be in a better spot but nothing is perfect and this is the closest your gonna get.

      Either one should be more than enough for what you'll be doing, especially if you're just starting college. Go with whatever brand you have the most experience with.

  • @passionfashions3018
    @passionfashions3018 Před 5 lety

    I just received my Dell XPS 9370 13” 4K UHD Touch Laptop and I had high expectations but I was let down.
    First of all the keyboard is tight and it cramps my fingers as I am a fluent typer. It could also use a bit more hand space on the side of the keyboard.
    The backlight for the keyboard turns off after two seconds and I constantly hit the mousepad to turn it back on so I can see the keys before I type (in the dark).
    The screen resolution looks no different than the 1920x1080, just thought I’d put that out there.
    The thin bezel on the screen is a nuisance because every time I go to re-position the laptop I inadvertently close a web page or document I’m working on because you are touching the corner of the actual picture on the screen where the “x” lies due to no bezel to grab.
    The speakers are on the sides, which reduces your listening experience quite a bit.
    That useless camera! You can’t see how you actually look on the screen because of the angle, when you are looking directly at your screen the camera is showing under your chin and up your nostrils, and when you look directly down into the camera to get a straight image of your face and eyes looking directly at the screen you won’t be able to see it yourself, so much for taking selfies or video chatting.
    If the had to take these measures to make a lighter laptop I’d rather deal with a couple extra pounds.

  • @roland5577
    @roland5577 Před 6 lety +4

    Ok, so I get that your review unit was the Core i7 and thus there wasn't much improvement in terms of speed, but since the video basically covers the 2018 series (and not just one model) you could've said that the i5 model is a more major upgrade compared to the 2017 model since Coffee Lake brings 2x the amount of cores and threads in the i3 and i5 series.

    • @jon4lakers
      @jon4lakers  Před 6 lety

      We didn’t test it so we couldn’t say that.

    • @roland5577
      @roland5577 Před 6 lety +1

      Or 'could be a bigger upgrade as Coffee Lake blaba'. I get the argument, but it's meh. I really think this nuance in this case is important as this 'doubling the cores/threads' is one of Intel's biggest steps in recent history. People are going to make buying decisions on (video) reviews, and when they see a discounted 2017 i5 one they'll probably go for that as 'it's just as speedy as the last gen' based on this video. On every other generation I would've completely agreed, but with Coffee Lake it does deserve a mention as I (and probably other viewers) see this as a XPS 13 SERIES review. A little mention about a potential, more significant increase on particular models in the series(thus more than 'some kind of percentage increase'), even if it's not the tested model, would've been a good addition.

    • @TabalugaDragon
      @TabalugaDragon Před 6 lety

      except the last model already had 8-th gen cpus. Check it out. However, it's cooling isn't as good as on the 2018 one, which makes it not as suitable for prolonged cpu loads.also the 8-th gen ulv processors are kabylake-r, not coffeelake. Coffeelake ones will come out soon this year.

      @Happi-HD Před 6 lety

      The last XPS (9360) had coffee Lake too, so performance wasn't much of a difference. The real things to take a look at is the new GORE thermal solution and the smaller battery life due to the thinness of the laptop

      I know Im not from TB but look for a laptop with an ssd and an i3 processor. The IPS panel and backlit keyboard are extras but they are well worth it. Do not go for some cheap amd or old nvidia graphics solution. If you buy a 7th or 8th gen i3, the integrated GPU will outperform them anyway. SSD is a must even if it's 128GB. It makes the whole system so much more responsive.

The main advantage with apple machines IMO is that there seems to be significantly less complaints about one off problems, where if you look at current razor machines, XPS, etc there are a lot of quality control complaints. My preferred environment is windows currently.

      the last gen had 4 cores actually...however, the newer one has better cooling, which allows it's cpu to run at higher clockspeeds for longer.

    2:38..Yes..the uhd panel DOES look exceptional....until you try to ACTUALLY READ text WITHOUT messing with the damn dpi setting from 100% aka stock. Get real otherwise.

    It'll kill your battery in no time

    1. Get rid of the dell logo and give us a 3:2 or 16:10 display. 2. Keep at least one usb-A port (if hp X360 2 in 1 can do it, so can Dell). 3. Don't ever list the 4gb ram option for a laptop of this caliber. 4. Give us a black or space grey color option.

      XuQi Feng the Dell logo is never going to come off lol come on dude it's Dell. But I agree with having the larger aspect ratio. It would allow the screen to be bigger, room for a larger trackpad and battery, etc.
