  • Kelowna's Pilot Project: Thermal Shelters for the Homeless During Extreme Weather
This video presents an in-depth look at the City of Kelowna's pilot project, which introduces thermal shelters as a response to the challenges faced by the homeless population during extreme cold weather. The initiative is part of the city's broader extreme weather response plan.
    Key Features:
Introduction to Thermal Shelters: An overview of Kelowna's innovative approach to providing safe, warm accommodations for its homeless population during cold weather.
Design and Functionality: Insights into the design of these thermal shelters, which rely on insulation rather than external heating sources to maintain warmth.
Safety Considerations: Discussion on how these shelters present a safer alternative to traditional methods like open fires or candles.
Community Engagement: Information on the city's efforts to involve community members and those with lived experiences in homelessness in the development and implementation of the project.
Investment and Support: Details on the city's investment in the project, including the acquisition of 27 units with the support of BC Housing.

Makes me think of the carpenter in Toronto that was building wooden shelters for homeless people during covid. The city filed an application for an injunction for him to stop his work. Claiming he was illegally dumping wood shelters on city property. Glad to see a city likely paying out the ass for something from Europe when it could be made in Kelowna with materials from Home Depot.

I mean no disrespect, but these are very similar to the shelters we make for the feral cat community. Our build is basically a plastic bin lined inside with a thick layer of styrofoam. We then add a layer of straw to help keep them warm. Cut out an entrance, and they are good to go. I wish government's would try building tiny house communities with shared bathroom and kitchen buildings. They could possibly hire community caretakers from the homeless population. It would be so much better than the tent/tarp situation.

People with houses, however, can use styrofoam around their bed, and reduce the thermostat setting to save money. If you have a “they” in your universe, you probably also elected a devil to explain God. Anyone who has slept on the street doesn’t need God’s nature explained. It isn’t necessary to prove God’s mercy, cause no one has ever existed outside of it; however, it is necessary to prove that mankind can, in fact, be kind.

There's less jobs than homeless or our entire population. Do to federal government regulations.
Sadly, I can move my companies to other countries and import through Mexico or Canada with NAFTA. Bush created NAFTA and Clinton took it to a new level! It's BS to watch this.
In my home away from home, I'm a legal immigrant from the early 70s, I get together with other blessed business owners and buy small business buildings from auction and start a housing project for free plus counseling and possible placement. Western societies need to take a new approach to housing that moves away from the mainstream "Bigger is Better/Newer is Better/ More Expensive is Better" paradigm. Not everyone wants to live in a suburb or a freshly gentrified older neighbourhood.
