  • This amazing project gives temporary homes to veterans who are looking to get back on track. Sometimes, all it takes is a period of time for people to get back on their feet, these project attempts to do just that. These tiny homes are designed with the veteran in mind and the Tiny Home Tours team was happy to donate to the cause.

Yes there is a current retirement crisis developing and growing...and an epidemic of loneliness among seniors and communities like this would be an ideal way to address both issues.

Dream Chaser Thank you for caring to inquire.
I was able to utilize several veteran programs called SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran families), Easter Seals, and United Way and Wounded Warrior Project (Registered Alum) and SUS (Services for the Underserved).
I also stayed at several temporary veteran transitional housing shelters.
I am a very resourceful and mentally tough person. I currently have survival gear in my car in the event I would have to live outdoors or in my car again. (Tent, sleeping bag, crank flash light, etc).
I would take my showers at the gym as I had a monthly membership and I would eat at various local soup kitchens.
The non profit organizations provided grants that give homeless veterans a “one shot deal” meaning the grants will cover 1 month security and 1 months rent.
They want to know that you have either a secure job or stable income to support yourself going forward to prevent a reoccurrence of homelessness.
I am happy to report I am no longer homeless, currently work for the IRS and I am actually in the early stages of buying my first home in Charlotte NC.

This is confusing! The idea of a homeless vet seems to alien to me. It is an American issue. How can the American military spend money so much all over the world and not actually take care of its military people. Here in China our military people get taken care of, it is not luxury but medical, education and housing is basic. It is not without some wrangles with local officials, but charity is not and should not be needed. Plus healthy vets allow for the military to expand quickly if needed suddenly. Best wishes for peace from China.

It always amazes me how the loud, obnoxious, self absorbed jewish community can find all kinds of money to build endless, massive, monuments to themselves, everywhere and how they are constantly whining at the top of their lungs about the war and how apparently, they were the only ones to die during the war, in the holocaust, but they cannot be bothered to find any money to build a few monuments to thank the WW2 veterans for their sacrifice and for saving the jews, or spend some money to help the aging WW2 veterans with affordable housing or hospitals. I mean these are the real life war heroes that risked their lives and suffered endless horrors during WW2 and rescued the jews from the Nazis. It is typical and no surprise that the jewish community cannot be bothered look past their own noses and say THANK-YOU to those men and women that saved them, let alone offer to help them with affordable housing or their medical needs. Clearly the jews are more interested in talking about themselves as loud as possible, all day, every day, everywhere they can, because it's all about me, me, me, I am the chosen one and you deplorables are not worth bothering about, let alone saying thank-you for saving our life! Of course you have to remember these are same delusional people that actually have the nerve to run around claiming God himself, actually dropped by a few times, to talk to a few jewish guys, about 2 thousand years ago, and told them they are 'the chosen ones' and I mean, of course if the jews say it happened, it must be true right... it's not as if the jews would ever lie. They really are an incredibly ungrateful jewish community and they wonder why the jews have been (and still are) hated by so many people all over the world. Haaaah! Cheers to these impressive folks that took the time, made the effort and actually made the world a better place by giving to others, just because it was a nice thing to do... they are real heroes!

So, I just want to thank you for all you are doing for the vets in your community and I wish there was something like this in the Hampton Roads Area.

Also, I'm going to be honest, the wars are absolutely brutal and terrible, but if the United States never had an army it definitely wouldn't be what it is today (not trying to support the murdering they do, I'm just trying to clarify that sometimes they really are fighting for our liberties and that they are the first ones to die whenever there is a real threat to our country)

Many of the homeless vets are from that era. At the time, 18 year olds were NOT even considered adults, for that you needed to wait 3 more years. When there are few jobs, your choice is to live off welfare or join the military. Not a good choice. The system is set up so if you are low income, you stay low income, while the corporate interest make the money for not doing much. @@jovanleon7 Get this idiot. I was marching against the war in Vietnam, among other injustices. Some of my friends chose prison, others just went there and died. The friend of my ex-husband committed suicide after his second child, also, was born with SEVERE deformations due to Napal. Heck, we even set fire to out universities ROTC. We got shot at, we were insulted and spit upon, we had cars driven agaist us, our newspaper's (against the war) building was set on fire twice. After, we had to take turns every night guarding the building, to make sure it did not happen again. The only lazy, good for nothing is some sicko who probably blames others for his fate. I spend my life from the time I was 12 fighting injusticed. My first one was in 6th grade, because our teacher was a terrible racist who hated all minorities, especially blacks. I'm very intelligent, and I decided to put her in her place. Got me kicked out of the classroom for 4 months, but not from the school, see the begining of the previous sentence, which I was fine with. When I finally got back to the classroom, she was treating everyone the same, as in not being such a bigot.
You still have anger issues. My father joined WWII when he was 16, with a permission slip from his mother. Found copy through the Freedom of Information Act. So I was an Army brat. I had nothing against the soldiers, just the sick people forcing them to fight a unjust war, all the way in the other side of the planet, against a people who were still in the stone age. And get this, my family is still a military family, after 78 years. And being that my grandson, is the child of mother and father Air Force, which means that is the only life he knows, I bet he will continue the traditions. Got take your meds and stop jumping to conclusions. My dad, got himself a Silver Star among many other medals for fighting in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He saw many deaths in all those wars, but he did what he did because he believed in the US and I did what I did because I believed in justice. By the way, my only brother, finally got over that war when he was 67 and made a decision to stop drinking cold turkey. I know plenty about war. My dad gave me a copy of the Art of War when I was still in elementary school and he taught me to box when I was a little girl of 6. Broke the nose of the school bully when I was 8, he was 12 and thought is was the perfect target. Let just say, after that his bully phase ended. Not to many people fear some creep beaten my a little girl, and he became the target. Next time ask first. I was born and raised a warrior. I fought against the war, until we WON and the US had to leave Vietnam. Who know how many thousand of people would have died if it had continued. I really cared about my friends being forced to go or go to jail. No need to tell me that. I know. Like I said, I was an Army brat and all the men in my family, asides my son were also, he decided to join the Air Force and go to war, multiple times. The base was attacked because they ran the radars, so they were very important in the safety of everyone else. Go preach to someone who has not been military all her life. By the way, my father spend 6 months in Walter Reed following a bomb that exploded near him. Sure you know what that is.

That's amazing what they do for veterans. As a retired 24 year honorably discharged disabled combat veteran I'll be needing a new home soon because the Veterans Administration sent me a notice saying the retirement I've been receiving the past 13 years will be cancelled in two months unless I can submit more paperwork stating the hardship it would cause me by losing the retirement check, because I've also been collecting social security income. Between the two checks I was living at below poverty level here in Rhode Island and trying to maintain a small home, now they want to cut my yearly income in half and force me to lose my home and most likely all my possessions. The only reason I have this home is because my mom willed it to me for helping to take care of her the last few years of her life, I was her primary care giver. Funny how the VA is all about helping vets get benefits, home loans, education, jobs, medical coverage and much much more, yet a disabled veteran who has a small home, is settled in, barely getting by, even with discount benefits from the state, having to apply for food assistance and making use of state agencies to help me replace my main heater that broke 2 years ago, getting a reduced rate for electricity and heating oil for the winter.... they just want to take what little assemblance of a life I've put back together over the years, trying to keep my head above water and destroy it all. They want me to pay back 13 years worth of so called over-payments, on top of cancelling my retirement check and yet after coming back from Iraq, I went thru $75,000 of my whole life savings, mostly my daughters college fund, trying to survive, waiting on the VA to make a decision, years of them dragging there feet, having to resubmit a claim over and over again! Yet I will never see a penny of my money returned to my checking account because of there incompetency! Not sure about other states, but Rhode Island has THE worst Veterans Administration I could ever even imagine. So what would it look like, me applying for a new home at the further higher expense of the VA because they forced me to lose the home and life I have now, that they don't help me to maintain, not to mention the resources that could be given to another needy veteran or if they finally got there heads out of there asses, realized there mistake and stopped threatening to destroy my life? Either that or they're hoping I'll have a second but fatal stroke and they wont have to pay me any more, on top of taking all my money and possessions that could and should go to my relatives. I should also mention I had to go to a civilian hospital for a mild stroke and the VA told the hospital to give me whatever I need and it will be taken care of. Well the hospital sent the 73,000 bill to the VA who promptly denied it, even tho they told the hospital they would take care of the bills. That IS the Rhode Island Veterans Administration in a nut shell! Makes me almost look forward to having a fatal stroke and stopping all this suffering, stress and anxiety. But oooooh the VA hospital will gladly offer me free medication to take care of all of that mess, not even bothering to admit they're the ones that are causing it! Honest to gods truth, I had less stress and anxiety during the war than what the VA is causing me now. I pray I'm the only one there doing this to, nobody deserves to be treated like this. The VA needs a new form so veterans can submit paperwork explaining how the VA causes hardships easier than it is for a Veteran to get help in the first place.

Oh and I forgot to mention the hardship it puts on my family as well, they all love and care about me and did what they could to help me during my time of need, they respect what I and all military do for the country. My mom, god rest her soul was so happy and relieved when the VA finally approved my disability after years of fighting for it. Now after 13 years they want me to relive all those devastating and painful years all over again. My next step is to sell everything and just move to Mexico where I might be able to live a halfway decent life on what little the state is giving me.

I agree. Our veterans have given their all. We even though we may live on barely anything. We owe them big. They have given their lives for our freedom. And freedom doesn't come without pain. They are just like you and I. They worked hard and believed in their own country to cover them. They gave all to give us freedom. Come on America back to basics of life. I was a Hospice nurse for many yrs and the people I learned from were my patients. I started learning from my first patient. My daughter Dianna Lynn McCue. She was and is a shinning star of faith, hope and love. Dianna, I pray that we see things again to help others. Not ourselves. You did at the age of 6 yrs old. Yet never complained. You loved your parents and grandparent's. We love and miss you so much. Yet I know and was given wisdom and faith and hope and love because of you. I will never forget how blessed I was to be your mom. And your smile that brightened everyone's life she came in contact with. Fearless, innocent, love for all and putting up with pain. We need to be there for those who have gone before us and give to others the love and dignity to live in a home.Time will tell if we judge others because they don't look like us. We only do that to feel big or powerful. If we give away love we may not always get it back. But it will come back because we believed in human beings. To give us better than to receive. To live is better than revenge to give us better than to get. God is Love.

@@gregm8871 You'd be surprised at how many hoops you have to jump through to get those home loans. And it's not the military directly but the VA which, while military, runs on a whole different program, and is more of a hurdle to go through. Also, many times these homeless vets DID have houses and those VA loans prior to becoming homeless. There are so many factors in which our society has screwed over our Vets, that making a statement like that shows that you are not aware of how badly our people need our help. Equally there are many who due to medical reasons were not able to hold down a civilian jobs, and their disability check does not cover enough to keep a roof over their head. So a housing development like this that allows them that "luxury" and provides outreach and training to learn once again how to be a part of the society they are now living in, is BEYOND words for how wonderful and helpful this is. Lastly, if you paid attention, this is not intended to be a forever home. This is designed to be that stepping stone to get them to a point where they CAN "take the initiative and themselves" as you so curtly put it.

A lot of it is on the verts as much as it is on the VA. People are failing to plan for anything.
There are a few hoops, but it seems that most people negatively affected by it have made previous mistakes that hold them back from home ownership. if your credit is less than average then not even the VA will want to work with you, but they'll try.

@@louiseanderson1505 I'm thankful for the life I was given. To have left home at age 11 gave me more gifts than trauma. There were predators, killers lurking everywhere but I learned real fast how to evade capture. Many of my childhood friends weren't so lucky. I love the UK. I try to visit there as often as I can. Was shocked to see there's still grass on the Shakespeare Theater roof. The London eye and Big Ben were quite the sites. I mostly stay in Manchester but love visiting Liverpool when I get a chance. Took the train up to Gloscow and Edinburgh. i couldn't believe some of those buildings were almost 2000 years old and still standing. I'm sorry to see England go though so much strife. i know people of the UK are strong and I know you'll pull through. Thank and much appreciation from the UAE

@Alexander Kennedy I'm Vietnamese.. the truth is.. communist killed them.. while U.S veteran try their best and risk their life saving our people.. communist told the world that U.S army did that..but in real life.. my father who survived that time told me different story. The North (Communist) wherever they march through.. like privates, took everything valuable from people and killed ( make people dig their own grave and buried people alive and blame that to U.S.. there still a lot more they did.. like rape .. cut the breast out of women chest..etc.) So.. don't believe in the lies they made..
P/s : right now if there's a protest in my country.. the protesters will disappear, nothing leaves behind.. their identity got erased.. you may check for Hong Kong protesters and you can see what they been through.. same as Vietnam
