More Bags! A Style Arc Tee & some Machine Embroidery

- Sewing this week was very varied! Always on the search for the perfect T Shirt, I tried out the Style Arc Gem Tee. I have also sewn a couple more Bum Bags or Fanny Packs and this time I didn't use the vinyl! I have also had the chance to use my Brother Embroidery machine with great success.

Thanks Cheryl we are really pleased with the location, it is just so relaxing there. The cross body or waist bag(?!) is a good pattern and there is a great tutorial online. I do use a continuous zip though which I find is easier. Good luck! 🧵😊
Carol, I love your makes. I have never had any interest in an embroidery machine. I learned to embroider when I was three- 67 years ago! After seeing your makes I now have to have an embroidery machine. Thank you for your hard work.
Oh that does make me laugh about the embroidery. I used to say, 'why do people want a machine to embroider, that's just cheating' 😂😂. The things I create on that machine though are just so wonderful and I have only just scraped the surface on what it could do. For me, it has been worth every penny! Hi Carol. Great video. When I make bags I usually use cotton on the outside and a waterproof canvas on the inside. It protects the stuff inside from the rain! We love Disney and are hoping to head down to Orlando next year. We most likely will do Disneyland again this year 😊
Thanks so much for your comment. A waterproof layer on the inside is a great idea. I use ripstop on the inside of toiletry bags etc but I hadn't thought about it on a normal bag. So many beautiful makes. I'm sure Chris will love his new shirts. That hedgehog fabric is so cute, I can't wait to see the adorable outfit when you finish it. I just finished the two Easter dresses for the baby girls. Darcey made a bag in our sewing class this week and of course had to add fancy trim and sparkles to it. Hi Carol!!! You are making me want to give that Butterick pattern another shot with some nice quality fabric this time, I think that red will come out beautiful! So many adorable bags!!! I love your videos as always, you keep it real! The ironing cloth mishap😵, I hope your iron survived! We've all done those types of things. I just "finished" a Tankini swimsuit and realized at the very end, the shelf bra is inside out somehow, and I followed the directions to the LETTER!! I thought of you when I talked about the pattern Mary!! Keep your fingers crossed for me with the red fabric. I did remember though that the neckband needed to be cut slightly longer than the pattern piece. My iron ended up a bit gloopy but it still works thank you! A tankini?!?! Wow that must take some skill, I've never tackled anything like that !! Who cares what happened to the shelf bra as you say, no one will ever know 🤣. I really love the clothes you make. I also love all things Disney! I live here near Disneyland and I am in awe at your Disney bags. Love the grandkids tops/ hubby's top w/embroidery. Idea; make Adam a Disney bag, yes, he can make beautiful bags, but he might like a Disney bag too! Happy sewing!

I love the color of your top! It's one of my favorite colors. I love Style Arc styles but they intimidate me with the sizing and their instructions. Their v-necklines tend to run away too low on me as well but I have been pleased with the results so far. I look forward to Part 2 of your pattern clearcut. Yes, I'm nosy like that! 🤣

Another great video Carole! I love that you are making the little romper for your grandaughter. I must thank you for your diversity in doing sewing things non related to garments. My husband is always telling me I have too many clothes and I know he is right, so I am dabbling into very simple quilting. I have almost finished a simple lap quilt made from a charm pack of 5 inch squares and I think I am hooked. Oh dear-just what I need: another reason to buy more fabric! Lol. Happy Sewing Carole!

A quilt using a charm pack sounds ideal to me as you wouldn't have to coordinate fabrics which I struggle with. It sounds a perfect project, well done! Thanks Izzy! I must admit those embroideries turned out well but now I put two layers of stabiliser underneath, I've had too many mishaps with one 🤣. WOW!!!!! Nice new home away from home! Chris sure looks pleased in the photo, as he should be. Enjoy! The bum bags/fanny packs now worn as cross body bags?!? Who knew? I do like the look and stability of the bag made with fusible fleece a lot. Thank you for your review of the OdiCoat waterproofing product. Very helpful! I've printed out the bum bag pattern, but making it will have to wait several months. Love Chris' drum shirt, and your story about mixing up the ironing cloth with the embroidery backing material. I did the same sort of thing when I was making a dress. Needed a small amount of fabric for a facing piece, and ended up cutting it out of a sleeve piece that I had unpinned the sleeve pattern piece from. I laugh now; wasn't laughing then. Moving: Found a great realtor and will be moving to Florida, I suspect, within 3-4 months. Busy now getting things together to donate to charity shops and packing other things into the garage. Spent the entire day yesterday visiting with my dear friends from Florida who are here in San Diego for the weekend. Both sets live on the east coast, where I'll be moving to, south of Trish. Will fly there to find a new place once my house is sold. Fingers crossed all goes well! 🤞🏻
Oh Dori!! To think you could be in Florida in a few months is so exciting as you have waited so long! It is also exciting to think you will be living near Trish, she is the most wonderful person if you get the chance to meet her. Chris in that photo makes me laugh too, you can almost hear him saying in his head... I have earnt this... this is my seat!! 😆. We are very excited as from the 1st of March we can then stay in it, as they aren't residential you are only allowed to use it for 9 months of the year. You are right about the fusible fleece, it gave a much better look didn't it. It took a while to get the right 'recipe' for the bags but I think I am there now!

Using your new place for 9 months out of the year gives your family plenty of exclusive time to enjoy it during the year. How wonderful!!! So very, very happy for you!!! Your view is amazing and, no doubt, you won't get tired of it. After I get moved and settled in FL, I want to contact Trish and see if she'd like to meet for lunch somewhere, maybe go fabric shopping or thrifting. It depends on how quickly I get settled in. At some point, Grace (So Lovely w/ Grace) and I will be meeting in Orlando to do the same. Will need to buy several pieces of IKEA furniture for my sewing room. Will only be taking the minimum of furniture with me, donating most of it to charity here in San Diego. Costs quite a lot to ship a household over 2,500 miles. The more furniture and such you have (weight), the more it will cost to ship. So what I save by not shipping heavy items like furniture, refrigerator, washer/dryer, etc. it will allow me to buy new in FL. I will, however, take a mattress set to have something to sleep on until I buy new bedroom furniture. Trying to figure out what to take and what to donate isn't easy! Currently, I'm trying to sell some things on FaceBook Marketplace that I definitely won't be taking but are in Like New condition. Will help pay for gas for my 2,500 mile drive! 😊 @@socarole66
I always look at the finished garment measurements before deciding on which size to sew in Style Arc. In GENERAL, they are oversized, but I have found one or two patterns that run smaller. I have the Sunny pattern but. haven't made it yet - I like how yours looks. I need to pull that out!
Oh Michelle, I was such a Numpty with that pattern 😂. I did look at the F G Measurements and saw they were slightly smaller but still ignored it 😆. I still love that Sunny top, it is the kind of balloon shape I love and yet it fits around the waist. Hope you manage to have success with it too. Re the new Holiday Home, you are only allowed to stay in it for 9 months of the year as not classed as residential. Lots of 'oldies' live there in the Summer then go somewhere warmer from Dec to March when it is shut. It is a big camp site as well with a restaurant, shop, small swimming pool etc so lots for everyone. We are going to see how much we use it going forward but hope to be down there AT LEAST one weekend a month if not more. We just can't wait until we can stay there in 2 weeks time 💞👏🏼. Have you considered spraying your fabric with scotch Guard for fabric? It won’t make your fabric waterproof but it will make it water repellent. I use it on cushions and pillows and you don’t have any change it the composition of the fabric. Just a thought. Hope you have it in the UK.

Just thinking, there's a spray to protect suede shoes from dampness. I wonder would that be helpful? Not sure it would be waterproof but might be of some help. Enjoy the trip 🎉😊

Your bags are so cute! What is fusible fleece?
Thanks so much. Fusible fleece is a kind of man made wadding (batting) that you can iron on like interfacing. It is great for bags, pouches etc and easy to use. I buy mine from Amazon or my local store. Hope that helps. 😊🧵
Could you please tell me where you got the Disney 100 year celebration fabric. My daughter, who is 43!, is a massive Disney fan. They are hoping to go for four weeks in the summer and I would love to make her a bum bag out of that fabric. She has one, and yes, she also wears hers across the front of her body. 😂

The fabric I bought from JoAnns on a trip to the US this time last year, not sure if that helps you at all. I find that the tighter fitting T shirts are much better for wearing underneath cardigans, in a time where I’m often taking part in a compulsory age related top layer ‘oke cokey’ . I find looser T-shirts end up revealing too much during the process 😂😳🫣.
Is it worth investing in an embroidery machine do you think? I have a Cricut and can do iron on designs but haven’t really done many as yet. I’d be interested in a comparison of the processes… do they take the same files eg? Thanks xx
Hi Claire, the 'boob' bags (that is exactly what Izzy and I were laughing about I was just too shy to share that in my video 😂😂) are great fun to make. There is already a youtube tutorial for that bag from the people who made it, LearnCreateSew. I think I put the link in the description box on last week's Friday Sews. Re your embroidery question, I have great fun on mine and have used it a lot. I have no experience with a cricut, that is a road I don't think I have time to go down 😆. Like Cricut though you can buy files on Etsy or Brother itself and I load them onto a USB stick, put into the machine and 'voila' they are there!! I use DST files but no idea what that means. It depends what you want to decorate to be honest whether you have a cricut or embroidery machine. One thing I slightly regret is the size of machine I got with the small 4" frame, I kind of wish I went bigger. Hope some of that helps! 🧵😊
