The post apollo nasa plans are fascinating, it seems we could have maintained permanent human habitats on the moon and mars easily using 1960s/70s tech-level if we just bothered. However I guess at the end of the day there was no point to any of this other than bragging rights and all the money went away. Obviously making those colonies self-sustaining, terraforming them, or even gaining any sort of use for them is a hundreds of years, zillions of dollars, kind of thing. There's some interesting proposals on rapid terraforming. Within a few lifetimes, of different moons that is worth searching for. I think Kurzgesagt has a video on it.
Agreed - I found out about those plans from an article I read which also inspired this video. Although now that water, Helium-3, and rare earth minerals have been discovered on the moon since then, it seems there is more political motivation to go back. Thanks for the comment
