No, Gillian Anderson’s performance is one note. She does not capture Thatcher’s nuances, her occasional twinkly smile, her sense of humour. Do you think it was "the greatest" leadership when she illegally funnelled money into Northern Ireland to fund paramilitary death squads? How about when she destroyed Britain's manufacturing industry which led to mass unemployment? Her support of capital punishment? 15% interest rates? How about when she abolished the school milk program for children? Was it "great leadership" to institute a poll tax? The damage caused by Thatcher runs so deep, that the world will never heal. The destruction of community and way of ife was total. So much so that a subsequent 13-year Labour Government couldn't even *begin* to countenance introducing policies that would have promoted a return to the historic economic and social structure of the areas Thatcher destroyed. Those areas are still home to the poorest Britons, malnourished, unemployed. Thatcher obliterated their industry while simultaneously pulling the rug out from under them. A gaslighter, a traitor, and the most-hated politician to ever occupy the office of Prime Minister.
Thatcher is a joke and anyone who admires her is a traitor to modern civilization, at best. Only an ignorant psychopath could ever claim she was "the greatest".

Gillian Anderson nailed the tone of Thatcher's personality and talking style, but surely her voice in The Crown looks like she is suffering from Covid induced asthma

I have never seen 'The Crown'. I lived through the Thatcher premiership. I do not need to watch a pale imitation of the great lady. Love her or loathe her one cannot deny that she dragged this country up by its bootlaces onto the World stage and made us a force to be reckoned with. Together with Ronald Reagan they forged a partnership for good who made real progress with the Soviet Union under Gorbachev. Today we learn of the passing of her formidable Press Secretary Sir Bernard Ingham who has died at the age of 90. May all those famous names rest in peace.

Amazing woman and leader……I hated the way her character was represented in the series ‘The Crown’…….she did sound a bit stuffy when she spoke at times, but the actress who played her sounded ridiculously strangled when she spoke and it was very exaggerated……on purpose, I think.

She really was a leader & set a good example & no matter what you thought of her, she certainly showed herself to be a force & she put the trade unions in their rightful place as well!
Yes she did things that were not right like signing the Anglo-Irish Agreement & the Maastricht Treaty & taking away the free milk at school but after all she was human & fallible like us.
Just because of her stand against Europe it was a real shame that her own party turned on her & turfed her out. We need another Prime Minister like her again who stood up for Britain.

Shes taller. And bigger. Carried a more charismatic confidence persona in real life.
Gillian is petite. Her potrayal makes Thatcher seems frail and sickly.
You people nailed with Emma Corrin Diana, but cant find someone else who fit more as Thatcher?
Although, merit to Gillian for her interpretation of the Prime Minister. Thts not easy to do.

She sold off the lifeblood of the country to foreign buyers .Water , Railways, Electricity, Gas .Affordable social housing . She introduced care in the community and threw the most vulnerable to the wolves .
A total dereliction of duty and responsibility. The woman was a menace . We are all paying for her actions now. Look around you .
On the positive side she was a good orator. But actions speak louder than words .

I love Gillian but she just doesn't do a good job as Tatcher. She speaks too slowly, is awkward and drags words on and on in the wrong way. Perhaps it was intentional, who knows. But one thing's for certain - Thatcher might've spoken slowly herself, but was still fully confident in her speech which completely lacks in Gillian's performance.
