    Thanks...I just watch your video and found out THERE"S A FILTER DOWN THERE!". I was always vacuuming the water out before proceeding with the rinse. It took 12 years to figure this out. The filter looked like a core sample of our pockets' life....Thanks!!!

      I don't know why Kenmore decided to hide a filter the way they did but it is a good idea to clean it out every once in awhile. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Our filter had 11 years of "kids" in it...from fabric, to coins, to plastic BBs. I don't know how the washer continued to function. I very much appreciate you making this video. What a time and money saver!!!!

    Wifey tried to wash a heavy blanket and a towel from a beach trip yesterday. We got the SUDS error and then it went to F21. I thought it was just that the machine couldn't handle the amount of water from these heavy items. Couldn't get the F21 error to clear so to CZcams I went! This video probably just saved me from at least a $100 service call. I have a HE3t. Used my little T20 torx socket with my drill and took the cover off. I didn't even need to prop it up (although that would help get to the screws). Took out out the drain basket and found a penny and what looked like the remnants of a pen. Cleaned it, put it back in, and right now we are back in business. funbro1 you, sir, are a rockstar! Thank you!

    Yup, a friend told me the same thing last night. So I invested in a small shopvac and took about 7 gal out before I started. That made the drainage manageable. Washer is on drain/spin right now -- I'm back in business! Thanks SO much for doing stuff like this!

    Thanks so much for this video. It helped us resolve an F02 error on our washer. We had some coins, foam ear plugs (from my job), and a golf tee in the trap. I didn't think this would be enough to totally plug the flow -- so I also squeezed the flexible hose from the drum to the drain trap and one of my daughters small socks slowed oozed out. Fingers crossed that that resolved our problem.

    Yo - Thanks a million for your step by step instructions. Also, thanks so much for including the nut driver size. I could not fiqure what size to use. Before watching your video, I took pictures of the screw to ask Home Depot for help. It too me about 10 minutes to get the drain out, clean it (broken pencils, $1.95 in coins and a ton of smelling lint) and to put it back in. We saved about $200 from not calling Sears to come out Thanks again and God bless.

Very easy to follow, I found lint, grit, and about $4 in change and a few misc pieces of electronics that someone left in their pocket.. cleaned it all out and everything was happy again. The hardest part for me was dealing with all the water that poured out since it didn't drain at all, a few towels was barely enough.

    Wow I have a 15 year old Kenmore and just watched a video of someone showing how to clean your a front load washing machine and obviously had a different brand machine because his machine had the filter in a very obvious place. My husband checked all around the machine and found nothing. I got out the manual and there was no mention of a filter that needed to be cleaned. I can just imagine what must be in there after 15 years. Thank you for your information now to tell my husband. He's not the best at mechanical type things, but you made it look easy. It was completely clogged with two stain catcher sheets. Tons of black sludge - just the same as a clogged sink drain. Used shop vac to vacuum the water as it drained out as I unscrewed the filter. When I plug in the washer, it blows the reset switch on the outlet now. Has to be related as it did not happen until after I took off the filter. Great video! I just bought a used Quiet pak4 HE3t and will be attending to the filter within a few days.
    I do have an issue, however. I get an F20 error within 10 min of starting a load. I checked the water hose screens, which were quite clear. While I have enough flow at the faucet, there is so little water being admitted that the detergent remains completely dry and unused. I pulled the top to observe a cycle and noticed that after the door locks, a servo motor moves a plenum vane to #1 position and the water solenoid begins admission, which ends after 1 sec. The door unlocks, relocks, at which the servo moves the plenum to its max #4 position, then back down through #1, almost to a physical stop, ending up at #2, at which time the cycle starts as already stated.
    Is this normal, or is a problem indicated?
    TIA

    I got the F2 error, found out what it was on another site, took off the bottom panel, and let out the water by turning the knob a little. After the water was out I turned the knob further to remove the drain basket . . . and the front of the knob was all that came out. I then found your site to see a photo of the unit, and clearly, just the knob part came off, leaving the basket part jammed in there. That must have happened when I attempted to back off the turn of the knob to reduce the flow of water coming out, and pushed in while turning back. The knob disconnected from the basket (it was really two parts) and the basket jammed in there (presumably on the debris). Well, after scratching my head, I grabbed one of the "fins" that the knob part had covered before with a pair of big pliers and PULLED. Out came the basket, absolutely filled with lint, various broken bits of things, a bottle cap, two socks and $1.06 in change. Sure wish these units came with a little sign on the front suggesting occasional cleanings. I'm going to use a thin, flexible magnet as a "last cleaned on date" reminder. My husband was impressed with my "repair." Thanks so much for the video.

    Hi, thanks so much for this -- I'm getting the F02 error on my washer. Never knew it had one of these, and I'll bet the person from whom I bought the house it came with never cleaned it out either. I have one question. There's a fair bit of water in my washer, because I tried the drain/spin a couple of times (2nd time with nothing in the washer) and it added water each time before it errored out. Will ALL that water come out when I open the drain basket?

I have my washer mounted on the drawer that was an option that sits under the washing machine. Have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. I've had my Kenmore HE3 washer for approx 8 yrs now...Never (knock on wood) any problems...ever. And I do a LOT of laundry, although my demand for preventative maintenance forgoes the onset of problems (i.e: checking all pockets before loading in washer; buttoning/zipping up all pants, jackets, etc. - anything that may bang around on the drum; using HE detergent, and so on...). After 8 yrs of being the only one to use my washer, I recently relinquished solo control and well, here I am writing this to you! My friend's son & gf washed a blanket w/out shaking it out that was loaded (I do mean LOADED) w/sand and dog hair-- to the tune of having to take a vacuum to the dryer drum as there was soooo much dog hair and sand in the DRYER. So, what does that say for my WASHER??? I have yet to wash another load as it happened today and have NO idea where to begin looking for any excess sand/hair etc. Again, I'm about preventative maintenance and before I do another load (which really needs to be done tonight), where oh where do I check for damage control??! Thank You -

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  Před 10 lety

      Well as you can see by watching the video cleaning the drain basket is really a pretty simple task and would definitely fit in the preventative maintenance category. I would recommend this to be your first step. It is worth the time it takes to complete the task. A good amount of sand and dog hair would have run down the drain, that being said any hair that was not rinsed down the drain would be stuck in the holes in the drain basket. Likewise the sand being heavy would land in the lowest part of the washer which is just below the drain basket. If you have a wet and dry vac (with the drain basket removed) use that to clean out the area around and inside where the drain basket lives. This should suck out any hair that may have gotten lodged in the pump area or sand that may have fallen to the lowest point. You could start with a clean vacuum and look in the vacuum after cleaning it out to see if you actually removed anything from the pump area. Just remember to put a towel down before removing the drain basket because you will probably still have a little water in this area. Hope this helps, good luck.

    Unfortunately the drain basket is the lowest spot on the machine so you should be ready to receive ALL the water that is in the washer. The good news is this may fix your F02 error. I had a similar problem years ago when my son left his pocket full of rubber bands and some of them worked their way into and past the basket area. Good luck hopefully this will solve your issue.

      mikki keeble The only way it comes off is a 1/4 turn counter clockwise. It does have an o-ring around it that might give you some resistance but that's all there is to it. Just a suggestion: If you are having this hard of a time removing the cap, when you do finally get the cap off (I feel confident you will succeed) Use some Vaseline or faucet grease and work it around the o-ring before putting it back together. This will make it easier to re-install and easier to remove next time. Hope this helps, let us know how it goes.

    Great video-I followed instructions but my drain was actually clear. Any thoughts on what might be causing my F9 code? Only way for me to finish a load is to shut the water off when I get the code then resume the wash cycle.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  Před 9 lety

      Chris Heney An F9 code indicates a clogged pump or pump malfunction. You could start by checking pipes going to the pump to make sure they are all clear, it is possible that something has gotten past the filter basket and made its way into the pump. Also you could check the electrical connections to the pump they could possibly be loose. Most of the time it is something caught in the pump but it could possible be a pump going bad. Hope this helps.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  Před 9 lety

      It is possible that the pump may be going bad or the impeller is worn. Maybe something is clogged somewhere other than the drain basket. You could try using a wet and dry vac and suck the entire system out, if that doesn't change anything it might be the pump.

    I was trying to figure out where mine is leaking underneath. There's a "drip....drip....drip" that comes from which ever corner happens to be the lowest point. I slightly tilted it to each corner and ran a load to see if it would drip at the corner I had set lower than the other 3. Because of it doing this I'm assuming this trap you showed in the video maybe has a leak around the seal and it being close to the front of it like shown in the video is causing it to drip then run around the edge and out of the lowest of the 4 corners. This is what I'm hoping for anyway.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  Před 10 lety

      If you already cleaned the drain basket and made sure that all the debris were out of the pump area then you must start at the beginning. You did not indicate if you had any lights on or not so I will assume the worst (no lights on). First make sure you have power at the plug then make sure you have power at the machine by testing with a meter. After that I would begin by looking at the door switch because the machine will not start if the door is not closed. If the door switch is broken or bad then the machine will not work. Next would be the pump because the machine will run the pump for a little bit when starting a cycle to remove any water that may be left over. Next check all the wiring, I have had a washer that one of the wires came out of the holder and rubbed up against the drum and after awhile of rubbing against a spinning drum it finally broke the wire. The only way I found this was dissembling the machine to expose the wiring. Worst cast would be your motor or control board and those would be the most expensive to replace. Hopefully this helps, and good luck.
