Back in the day not many people in my generation would admit that they liked The Carpenters. Now we know how awesome they were and appreciate them more❤️⭐️❤️
Yup.I was one of those people.I considered their music corny, and them douchebags…Well,I was a moron then.Karen Carpenter is to me,one of the greatest female singers ever.
☝😁Ha! I admitted it! And was proud to do so. I was in 6th or 7th or 8th grade listening to this, I was also listening to everything from the Beatles, Motown, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and everthing in between. The fact is we had so much great music back then. The mid 50s-70s had the largest and most conglomerate catalogue of great music in world history.✊😛
Back in the day as a guy the only way you could explain having a carpenters cassette or record in your collection was to say it was your sister’s or girlfriend’s, If you had neither, youd have to listen to them on the radio. Now you can just download whatever or listen to youtube. In the 70s you had to actually buy the cassette or record.
And I feel stupid now not appreciating them back then. Can’t imagine how big and famous they would be today.
@@matrox I was older when they won the Battle of the Bands in I think 1969, if so I was 26 out of the service and living in Los Angeles. Her voice was like a gentle warm rain. I fell in love with it from that TV program and have never gotten over it. I belonged to 4 record clubs back than and bought all of Carpenters albums have a TEAC A-3440 4 Channel 12-inch Reel To Reel Tape Deck put all my records on one tape, ended up with over 1600 songs on it, which are now on my computer drive and a USB thumb drive. the thumb drive is plugged in to my car so by touching Carpenters on my screen I can hear every song they did.
Simply the best female singer I've ever heard period!
Me too 👍
100% ❤
Her voice was crystal clear. No other singer can achieve that clarity.
Her vibrato is a 10. Incredible vibrato control. Perfect.
Majestic and angelic, raw powerful, there is NOBODY...NOBODY who is remotely close to this, NOBODY. Paul McCartney said she was the finest female singer in the world.
Karen and Richard added so much quality music in their time together, sadly she was taken from us way too soon, he was devastated to loose her, it's wonderful that her music lives on, greetings from Australia.
Hello! mate! June from Maine USA
Many of us were blessed with Karen and her exquisite voice back in the day, grew up with them. We all lost a piece of ourselves with her passing, humanity and the world lost a true Superstar. It does my heart good knowing that some of the younger generations are willing to experience some of what so many took for granted long ago.
Not only Karen carpenters voice so good she was also a brilliant drummer,RIP Karen ❤️
I loved this song just as much today as I did in 71 at tge age of 10. What memories!
Karens voice is so very haunting. When she sang she became so entangled in the vocals it is hard to break away. Rest in peace Karen.
Her voice is actually hypnotic.
She's my "go-to" when the day has been garbage. Or if I'm trying to keep a migraine at bay.
If I CAN'T listen to her singing it means the migraine is BAD.
If I recall correctly, this song was a one take. Her breath control was phenomenal.
Thank you for reacting to this great song by Carpenters, featuring the amazing Karen Carpenter. Sadly she was taken from us far too early when she was only in her 30's, but at least we have the legacy of her music. Carpenters had many great songs you might want to read to including Top of the World, Rainy Days and Mondays, Close To You and We've Only Just Begun to get you started! Great to see another reaction from you and I wish you every success with your channel!!
Perfect and best contralto out there. Every note is perfection.
Some singers use verbal gymnastics to wow crowds. Others belt out tunes with great power and precision. But Karen? She poured her heart and soul into her music.
Best female voice ever.
Now THAT is talent and Karen “hits” every note perfectly!
On top of that great musical voice, you can understand every word she says, no scrolling lyrics needed
Nice description of what you liked about Karen's voice.
The Voice of an Angel.
Very warm and honest reaction. Yes do more Carpenters. You will fall further in love with Karen's angelic voice. Liked and subscribed. Good luck with your channel.
Great is always great rip Karen
Please do Carpenters ,We only just begun and For all we Know and Hurting each Other, and Rainy Day Mondays !
Hauntingly beautiful......I think this song came out when I was back in high school in the early 1970s. I finally got to see them perform sometime in the early 80s? At Harrah's Casino in South Lake Tahoe. 2 of Karen's songs to listen to.....'A Song For You'.....& 'Rainbow Connection'.
And she never had enough confidence in herself in singing self esteem issues are tough she didn't like her body to me she was almost perfect and absolutely beautiful.
This was difficult to read due to a lacking of punctuation. What did they teach you in school? 😳 After I painfully put your words together, adding my own punctuation, I agree. Please don't make this Habit!
Greatest voice ever..
Greatest female voice ever bar none !
Ritchie knew how to add little nuances to his arrangements to make them stand out, like at 00:52 sec. in, the simple swipe on the keyboard is so simple yet so effective that basically says here we go, you stop and get ready to listen to what we are about to put down. He is commanding your attention before Karen sings, yet you are are not aware of how effective this is pschologically. As a musician myself I learned to pick up on things like this.
Indeed the music is soooo beautiful. I was not sure if you were going to cry or melt like butter. You felt it in your heart, or so it appeared. I gotta get their greatest hits ......................again.
Awesome..great voice ever
When I was a teenager, it was NOT COOL to admit you liked the Carpenters, as their music was so "soft"...but holy crap, can anyone deny the stopping power of Karen's beautifully haunting voice....and this timeless song. ?? Sadly, She died prematurely of Anorexia Nervosa but we still have all of her amazing performances.
Love your reaction. Just you falling into the song and the voice of Karen Carpenter!
You felt it...Karen😍
I love them❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I so appreciate you choosing Karen Carpenter and this song . I enjoyed this video and your reaction very much! You described her sap beautifully and genuinely. You’re a very lovely lady to watch and listen to. Well done!

I love all kinds of music from Metallica to Sara Brightman. I love Karen's voice. This woman was a natural with a beautiful voice. Solitaire is definitely worth checking out. Thanks!😄😄👍💥
Dear Innocent Casual Shoes, you have a soul mate in NC about our era's music. I think with the Carpenter's music. God bless. Chuck in NC
They changed the lyrics.
"I can hardly wait to BE with you again" was "I can hardly wait to SLEEP with you again".
Karen is my favorite singer of all-time. Richard is a fantastic musician. ❤
Her voice was velvet steeped in melted chocolate.
I love them n their beautiful songs
Watch Karen Play Drums; she was originally a Drummer; Karen was an Amazing Talent; she is Dearly Missed.
If that made you cry, wait until you hear “A Song for You”. I don’t even have to be paying attention to it, and I’ll just find there are tears in my eyes. Of course, my parents played them when I was in the womb and growing up, so it really effects my neurology deeply, but I can tell you’ll really appreciate that performance.
I've always loved the carpenters, Karen's voice is smooth as butta
Karens voice was emotional and haunting…draws you in and makes you feel it.
She was one of my all time favorite female singers. She was taken from us far too soon.
She was awesome!!!!!!! Best female voice EVER!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
One of Rolling Stone's greatest female artists of all time. She died at 32 years old from Anorexia Nervosa because her mother thought her brother was the golden child and she was just the afterthought with one of the best voices in history. She passed out and died in her Mother's closet on Fe3bruary 4, 1983. She struggled to make her mom see her as an artist and she never did it. Her parents have a sad place in history of viewing this voice as just something they had to deal with. We all appreciate it now and when she died, the entire music industry basically shut down to mourn. Her parents; not so much! Sad!
Velvet, buttered in silk. Yet so haunting.
Love that you loved it.
Hey Ovuada great reaction my friend liked and added to my playlist
My Grandmother love this song's by The Carpenter Rip Karen Carpenter.
I love all their songs.....💓💕💗💗💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
RIP, Karen. We still love you.
miss karen carpenter
You just listened to one of the, if not The all time greats
Hello from Cody Wyoming!! You're awesome keep it up... you make me smile🤠
Luther Vandross cover of this still makes me cry decades later😂💜
@Ken Ward Yup. And I miss him so much. Saw him live in concert right before 9/11. Aaliyah was supposed to play that show but she passed away a few days before in a plane crash. I hate aviation.
I loved experiencing this with you. I never appreciated her when I was young. They weren't edgy enough...ha! The foolishness of the young!
Love your accent!
❤️
Don't bother comparing this to the shite they're churning out today.
Amen
You should listen too the original version by Delaney and Bonnie
I am sure it took alot for her to sing like that..
You're very beautiful
It's GORGEOUS, it's TRANSCENDANT, it's ETHEREAL, it DEFIES TIME and SPACE. There are other versions. Those are utter flops. THIS VERSION, Richard's version, is THE version.
Be nice if head phones were actually covering her ears, then it might be more believable.
With all due respect, I find very annoying every time I read the question WHO IS SHE/HE /THEY? it's disrespectful to the artist's legacy
When I was a teenager, it was NOT COOL to admit you liked the Carpenters, as their music was so "soft"...but holy crap, can anyone deny the stopping power of Karen's beautifully haunting voice....and this timeless song. ??
