Her voice was so warm, deep and rich. She gave a feeling of intimacy to her style; she made it sound like she was singing just to you. I've never heard another voice like hers since. 😪
Absolutely stunning voice, I've never heard another like her. Still tugs at my heart just knowing her story. The most beautiful voice of her time. Nice reaction..again.
...seeing and hearing her for the first time as a young child you couldn't help but instantly fall in love with her, years later when she passed we were not only stunned but overwhelmed by grief, to this day it still hurts
I've heard that Karen did this song in ONE TAKE! An amazing gift she had with an instantly recognizable voice. A pure tone, pitch perfect and charismatic warmth. As the French would say, formidable!
Karen was a one-of-a-kind voice.. With her brothers arrangements, piano and background singing, they were an unbeatable duo in the 70's. They both had demons....Richard was addicted to the sleeping pill, quaaludes and Karen was dealing with anorexia. Richard beat his addiction and went on to marry and have 5 kids. Thanks for this reaction.
Such a beautiful voice Karen has. She should be considered Top 3 female singers. She's definitely that good. 👍 I liked her ever since hearing her sing All Those Good Old Dreams on the radio.
Great reaction , the Carpenters were neighbors of my grandfolks here in Downey Ca, my dad went to school with Karen at Downey Highschool. i drive by the hospital were she died all the time and i also drive by the church were her funeral was held its on Firestone Blv and Downey AVe,..the Carpenters House has been remodel but the builder never remodel her bedroom ,its always heart warming driving by the old house a great piece of history just outside my door..even James Hetfield singer for Metallica is from Downey and also went to school here in Downey Highschool
Karen s voice is unique. I remember when she passed I was gutted, her fight with anorexia was too much for her and her talent brother to. Seemingly he still struggles with it. Richard is also talented, did some scores for Horror movies and series. Lol
Karen reluctantly agreed with Richard to record Superstar. She didn't care for the version she had already heard (Bette Midler on the Tonight Show I believe)), Richard assured her theirs would be a far superior treatment of the song. On August 21 1971 Richard rehearsed the song with the session players. Karen arrived and the session began. Karen approached the mic and the tape rolled. On the first and only take, Karen delivers a masterful performance. A voice which will span the ages. Brother Richard was right, history shows theirs is the accepted standardized version.. Another lovely reaction E J-J. Thank you so much for sharing, RNB
To Rydra W. Superstar was composed by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell.. But it's been reported that it was the Bette Midler performance Karen heard on the Johnny Carson Show that turned her off the song. Generally speaking RNB
I just love Karen Carpenter. She sings like she has a tear in her voice. I feel that, that is the best description of her voice. It is like what melancholy sounds like; a teardrop. That feeling of not sure of being happy or sad. A tear in your eye of hearing something so beautiful that you cannot express it any other way except with teardrops. Her voice stirs up an emotion to something you just don't understand on how or why it exists. So pure , so innocent, so very beautiful, that is her voice.
When Karen died, I was in mourning for a very long time. I grew up listening to the Carpenters. Karen had such a angelic voice but rather sad knowing of her life of a woman searching in vain for love, which she never truly found. She was and still is an American treasure.
Karen and Richard Carpenter are my All time Favorites. superstar reminds me of my wife Linda. Karen and Linda are two of the Best and so are you. Give a listen to The Carpenters version of Solitaire. It is one of my Most Liked.
I think this is their greatest song. And it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Powerful song and perfect singing by Karen. Thank you for doing this one, lovely young lady. 😎✌☮💕💖
I love listening to Karen Carpenter. Beautiful voice! But it is hard to watch her as it breaks my heart knowing about her suffering and the lose of her at such a young age x
If there was one singer I could bring back to life it would be Karen Carpenter..just think of the body of work she'd have by now if she hadn't died so young..but also for Karen herself so she would know how much we love her and her voice so she could feel how much she genuinely is loved for her voice and herself as an individual..
Majestic and angelic, raw powerful, there is NOBODY...NOBODY who is remotely close to this, NOBODY. Paul McCartney said she was the finest female singer in the world.
I love when you play the oldies!! Another great song Empress and another great reaction!!! It really is a shame she died so young but at least we have the songs she was able to give us. Keep up the good work bright eyes I love what you do and I look forward to the next one
She preferred playing the drums to singing. There are some music videos where you can see her singing while drumming. They made a TV movie about her life, and there is one really striking scene that I still remember. She was looking at her reflection in a store window, and she thought she looked fat, but she was skinny. Anorexia had a real hold on her, and it weakened her heart so bad she passed away at 32, a month shy of her 33rd birthday.
Karen is a legend with her voice. She was also an amazing drummer! There are videos available of her drum solos. If you’re interested in other female artists you could check out Linda Ronstadt. She was the first female solo act to sell out arenas. Her talent is staggering and spans four decades. I recommend “Long Long Time” for starters. Love your reactions. 🥰
one of the absolute best parts of this video is her reaction starting around 2:55 and going for the next several seconds, I laugh at her reaction being emotionally identical to mine -not to mention many others, the phrasing and tone of that second verse is emotionally stunning, the way she connects her syllables together is in and of itself a powerful emotional experience
Not only voted a top drummer, Karen Carpenter's voice is so utterly drenched with 'being' that nobody has yet caught up with her. Her life was tragically cut short... but we still have the music...
OOOoooo, I really like that black number you wear & that is just around the shoulders. Somehow, I knew the comments would be interesting. It always seems the one you love loves another.
I first hear the Carpenters on my father's quadrophonic stereo. Amazing voice, tragic story. Everyone loved her but herself... At that time few of us even knew what Anorexia was.
Beautiful voice!! some of these songs you react to take me back many years, I was probably too young to really appreciate just how good they are, Thanks for sharing Empress!!
I just love it see hen you do these older songs. I havent heard the carpenters in a long time till you reacted to them. You amd Mo take me back to my teen years lol
It's funny I actually had a girlfriend that move to Downey California I used to visit her in that little suburb and then later on I found out that that's where the Carpenters grew up yeah she can play the drums really good too just wait till you get to that one song rainy days and Mondays oh that will really pull on your Heartstrings yeah my mom really love that gal she sang so pure and that's what my mom really appreciated he was a great musician in her own right she got to play with Charlie Rich and trumpet player that used to play with Louis Prima and among many others Ramsey Lewis even wrote my mom a note and left a tip and the note on the piano it said you were going really good and then he wrote no you are really great Ramsey Lewis he's the fellas it came up with the song called we're in with the In Crowd all right girl that was an awesome reaction
Best melancoly female vocalist of all time...luv her...and you
If she sung from a Calculus book, it would win a Grammy.
Yes, provided Rich was on the arrangements.
@@Coupydog So true!@
Her voice was so warm, deep and rich. She gave a feeling of intimacy to her style; she made it sound like she was singing just to you. I've never heard another voice like hers since. 😪
That Karen can make such a painful thing sound so beautiful is amazing. I agree: she had the most amazing voice in my experience.
Karen had without a doubt one of the most gorgeous voices on earth. And even though she's gone, her voice lives forever.
RIP Karen, still loved and sorely missed.
IMHO Karen had the voice of an angel. Her story is a sad one, and I was heartbroken when she passed. This was my favorite song by the Carpenters.
Absolutely stunning voice, I've never heard another like her. Still tugs at my heart just knowing her story. The most beautiful voice of her time. Nice reaction..again.
I feel in love with Karen when l was 9. Her early passing really broke my heart.
...seeing and hearing her for the first time as a young child you couldn't help but instantly fall in love with her, years later when she passed we were not only stunned but overwhelmed by grief, to this day it still hurts
And a really good drummer too.. underrated in that field too.
I also like the voice of thr blond girl in ABBA. They boyh have so much emotions when singing pitch perfect
@@mightysaturn5133 Agree, every time I hear her sing, I tear up.
Karen Carpenter was a magical singer. So sad she left this world at such a young age.
A great reaction video as ever. Thanks Empress 😊
She had the best voice ever
But you haven't herd angels sing yet I hope
Karen’s voice still gives me chills and makes me emotional every time I hear her. Lovely reaction Empress! 😊🌹
Yes and thank God for her...I think there would be ecen more suicides without her...I know her music saved my life as a kid.
@@michaelasay6140 Thats great Michael. Glad you’re still here with us. Best to you.
I've heard that Karen did this song in ONE TAKE! An amazing gift she had with an instantly recognizable voice. A pure tone, pitch perfect and charismatic warmth. As the French would say, formidable!
"One take Karen" she was called. No autotune or remastering, just clear talent.
Nudie Bottom Rory
Rory in the nip
Karen Carpenter still gives me chills after 45 years
This is a beautifully sad song. Her low notes make you feel her heart.
The music of The Carpenters is so pretty yet melancholy
You'll love their "Close To You". She has a voice I believe all humans love
their very first big hit -and my favorite song from them
The animals love her too. "Bless The Beast & Children" is one for the Ages 😎

Los 70s con extraordinarios músicos, es mi mejor época 👏👏👏✨🎶🎶🎶🎶✨
Such a beautiful voice Karen has. She should be considered Top 3 female singers. She's definitely that good. 👍 I liked her ever since hearing her sing All Those Good Old Dreams on the radio.
Karen was everything in my childhood I loved her voice and her spirit that came across. RIP
Gone too young.
How can one "not" melt when hearing this song with her voice? Very moving.
she was so special....only after not hearing her for a time do you remember ......
One of the purest and most amazing voices ever, hands down. She was phenomenal.
She justifiably gets all the attention of course, but Richard's beautiful arrangements add so much, that we have to acknowledge them too!
She died from complications of an eating disorder. They say Karen Carpenter had the best voice in music.
Yes, she had.
She was anorexic and deeply shy…
Such a sad story, such an angelic voice…
Karen had an Angelic voice. When I feel stressed, I just listen to the Carpenters and then all is well.

Nice reaction. The Carpenters were huge back in the early 70's and it's a true shame she left us so early in life.
Best female voice ever. Loved the Carpenters since 1969.
It's all about class! Karen had it; and Empress, you have it too!! You are both "Superstars!"
Karen s voice is unique. I remember when she passed I was gutted, her fight with anorexia was too much for her and her talent brother to.
Seemingly he still struggles with it.

Karen Carpenter es irremplazable 😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It makes me so happy to see youngers like you learn what real Singing and music is all about
They say a voice like this comes along once in a generation.
This is a superior song , covered by many artists.
The writer says he liked Carpenters version best.
Her voice is haunting!!! I love it!

It's so tragic how she died--what a gift to us all her voice was. ♥ Please do more Carpenters reactions.
