If she'd been allowed to remain behind her drum kit where she felt safe and happy, the story would have been different. It was decided by the record company that she needed to be "out front" since she was such a wonderful singer. She was a musician.

I watched the docudrama about The Carpenter's. Richard is the favorite. Karen the afterthought. His parents bought him a piano and sent him to college. Unfortunately, mom and dad had little else to give to Karen. She was lucky to get a drum set. Still it made her happy to play music with her big brother. When Karen became the star of The Carpenter's, her parents had a hard time excepting the fact.

Me too, I'm a little over emotional now, but I keep thinking the same thing. What would Karen think when she saw the outpouring of love and awe at her lovely voice? and she was a phenomenal drummer. Certainly, they were huge in Japan and South America. Many people were fans in the US, too. Can't help but think it would make her very happy to see how she has touched our lives. I'm not expressing myself very well. I have a deep sadness that Karen died so young, partly because the doctors did not know how to help her.

Karens music affects me in more ways than one. .When I was younger in the 1970s, I met a beautiful, sweet female piano player/singer at my local Holiday Inn bar. She was attracted to me and I to her. I would sit opposite her at the piano while she would sing her Carpenter songs directly to me. We spent our free time together in my home town until (sadly) she had to move on to another Holiday Inn gig for a week or two. Those songs really take me back to her sweetness and Love. I hope you have had a great life Shirley. .wherever you are. I haven't forgotten you. Peace. Thanks for reviewing this music, Mo.

To see your reaction Has brang me great joy. She was a very accomplished drummer and musician. And the entire family are remarkable. Do not believe the sadness and hype associated with her life and passing. She was a joyous and happy person in reality. One that would always have a smile, and give hugs and positivity to anyone she met.
Every time they had a hit song they would buy another apartment building with their earnings, in Downey, California. Their parents would oversee and manage them. It was fantastic to drive down a street and see the apartments named after the song with it displayed in beautiful lettering on the front. "We've only just begun" is one of my favorites.
You see,... I might just know a little about it & them.... As I worked for them back then. In fact... She gave me this name "Rag Tie" long ago. Such a beautiful spirit and wonderful person. As is the rest of her family.

Karen Carpenter had a voice that would just melt your heart. I remember my mother back in the day listening to The Carpenters. You need to listen to the lady by the name of Anne Murray.

As a 55-year-old, I want to personally thank you and the many other reaction video young people for listening to these songs and not laughing or making fun of them. I know it's not like what you listen to now, but it was good music and was important to us -- still is. You seem like you genuinely like it! And for that I'm grateful. :)

Thank you! So many reactors just buzz by the first shot of her drumming, but I always think that's a shocking moment...my goodness, she drums TOO?!!...WHILE SINGING?!!! Yes, I love that moment. What you may not know is that she started out drumming in high school and then started singing when they began making music for records. They had to convince her to step away from the drums, eventually, because she was such a phenomenal singer people wanted to see her out front. Very nice reaction!

Karen was like Sohyang today. Astonishing at first, then emotional because you realize it's really happening and and it's really that beautiful. ♥️

She was America's angel. And then she was gone. When I was a kid. I still think she was born with a tear in her voice.

I was a big fan of Karen's and the Carpenters in the 70s, but it wasn't until I saw one of their TV specials in the late 70s that I learned she was a talented drummer. It's great to see her playing in this video!

First time I heard The Carpenters was about 1973 when I seven. It was their song "Top of the World' and I've been a fan ever since. I still watch videos of them on CZcams almost daily.

Karen Carpenter was a great drummer! "We've Only Just Begun" is a great Carpenters song for a wedding! My friends and I used to have a vocal group. We sang that song at a number of weddings. That instrument was a harmonica.
