It is criminal that she died so young. They were one of my parents favorite groups, so I listened to a lot of Karen Carpenter growing up as a kid. One of the purest and smoothest voices that has ever been in any genre of music. That beautiful contralto range is so easy on the ears…
She is one of the best (her and her brother) to ever grace a recording studio!! They are both great musicians as well. She was a fantastic jazz drummer as well. Great reaction. They don't make 'em like this no more. They worked very hard for a lot of years at their music craft. Mad respect...always have loved their music
Karen's drumming on this cut is SUPERB! Listen to those fills -- so satisfying and yet never overbearing. Do try to find live recordings to review (not lip-synced) so you can watch her play and sing. She was a musical genius -- and so was her brother, who did all the arrangements and most of the A&R work. For example, he heard this song for just a few seconds in a bank commercial, tracked down the songwriter, and adapted it for Karen. Although she is front and center on these recordings, he is ever present in the arrangements.

The most pure voice -- Karen Carpenter. Such a perfect voice
Oh, “superstar”. A song like no other.
This got played at _so many_ weddings in the 70's. Fun fact: the song was written for a bank commercial!
@Hound19745 Jesus, what an asshole thing to say.
Songwriter\actor Paul Williams finished writing the song from the bank commercial for the Carpenters.
@@danielgarrett979 Yeah, good ol' Paul. He wrote so many hits during the 60's and 70's. That guy was a song machine! (And he made a hell of a Satan, too.)
Had to see your facial expression after hearing her for a few seconds. Priceless makes a grown man want to shed a few tears for her.
Listening to karen my childhood rushes forward bring such amazing memories. Knowing she died so young and unnecessarily brings tears every time.
And Karen ain’t even on a drum kit........ her real passion . Outstanding talent ! Rip Dear.......
great video you are so sweet. God Bless you
The voice from heaven. Beautiful beyond belief. RIP Karen.
Beautiful, just like you! Back when people could sing without all the Hi-Tech devices!!! The music I grew up on!
You have the most beautiful smile! Loved your reaction. Karen is a legend. Her voice is so unique.
When this song came out, the Carpenters were definitely not the cool group to be in to. In spite of that, a music critic for Rolling Stone described Karen's voice as being like "a lover whispering in your ear." Think he nailed it.
This song is a cover version by the Carpenters. Like many of their songs.
Carpenters has always been my favourite music since teenage days. Will always be, she has a magical voice
If you were cool back in the day, you weren't into the Carpenters. Too squaresville. But when this song came on the radio and you were in your car, you'd crank it up and sing along and hope nobody saw you. If you like pretty love songs, check out "Never My Love" by the Association.
Hi Jopini. I remember buying an Association album just to listen to that one song.
I would be so uncool if I was in the 70s then
She had the voice of an angel, she is missed throughout the world.
OMG indeed.. Watching your face during the reaction really touched me, that must have been amazing for you. You nearly lost it at 1.34, I know how you feel! This is one of my favourite songs of all time, so sentimental. And the arrangement and harmonies are heart melting.
You are beautiful to watch
Transported to another time with a song. Magical
I totally understand your emotion as you listened to this song. I was crying. Karen had the most beautiful voice ever and the harmonies in the song are incredible. I'm a hard rock guy but Karen's voice would melt any heart. She died far too young.
Her voice goes through your bones its effortless one of the greatest singers ever
Really nice reaction love. You never fail to please. My wife and I loved listening to the Carpenters music when we were dating in the early 70s. Nice memories. 😊❤️
Her voice was pure gold. Such was so talented. Always loved her music.
She died too young no one sings like her.
i remember seeing a movie about her when i was a kid. i dont remember what it was called.
@@JReed7560 it was titled The Karen Carpenter Story. You should google it and rewatch it. It's so sad the way her mother tried to control every aspect of her life and blatantly favored her brother, Richard. She was an amazing singer and had a lot of talent, but her mother never acknowledged it because she was too busy doting over her brother.
I grew up with the Carpenter's music. Karen's voice is like no other. I love Aretha and Whitney and Diana, but Karen's voice is just mesmerising.
It is criminal that she died so young. They were one of my parents favorite groups, so I listened to a lot of Karen Carpenter growing up as a kid. One of the purest and smoothest voices that has ever been in any genre of music. That beautiful contralto range is so easy on the ears…
NOBODY!!!! And her songs were perfect for her. Even the covers.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FEMALE VOICE EVER. WOW
That is God given talent🌟⚘ One of the most beautiful voices in music ever ❣🎶
I grew up listening to the Carpenters. Even today, when I hear the Carpenters sing..a part of me still fills with joy and a part of me still weeps for Karen. I miss her so much.
Karen had one of the best female voices ever. 💛 Love following You 💛
I disagree. She had a small voice that was highly amplified. She had very good training on interpretation more so than having a trained voice. Linda Ronstadt, on the other hand had a strong, emotional voice that actually drew the listener to it.
@@Eyes-of-Horus Alex, I agree. Linda was an amazing artist. I love her since the first time I saw her live in early, 70s. I have all her albums in my record collection. She more close to my "" music taste "then the Carpenters. But there is something with Karens voice that is hard to explain for me. It sort of gets under my skin, talk to my heart and deep inner feelings. 💛
@@leifericcarlson9018 Is it the voice or the interpretation of the lyrics? What she sang didn't require a strong voice or much range so reliance on interpretation and lyrics would become more important.
@@Eyes-of-Horus Definitely the voice. In the lower register. I find it warm and rich. It affects me in a way no other vocalists does. Maybe the canadian jazz singer Chantal Chamberland is rather close.
@@Eyes-of-Horus
It makes no difference for the audience.
Because of her beautiful voice and interpretation, Karen Carpenter was and is even now far more popular than Linda Ronstadt ever was or is.So it makes no sense what you say and you know it.
I was so lucky to have grown up with the sound of the Carpenters music playing throughout the home I grew up in. We lived in that house from 1970 to 1978. What a time for music! The Carpenters was a favorite for my mom. Her favorite song by them was Top of the World and for years, I couldn't listen to that song without thinking of those happy music filled days in that house and I would cry. There's nothing like Karen Carpenter's voice. So pure and soothing.
