Hey guys, i felt the itching to fly out one of the 109's again, a Fighter line that i really enjoy in War Thunder. This time we're taking a look at the Bf 109 F-2. A plane that i actually had not flown out in Rb yet ;) Hope you enjoy! And do let me know what you think of the plane :) A like, comment and subscribe is appreciated.

Hey boss! I actually like the F-2 a lot and you _really_ were able to show off its strong points! i mean... your aim is just _so_ *FANTASTIC* it is not even fair ;-) :D. if i were able to aim that well, i would be able to do fabulous as my flying has gotten a _lot_ better lately as i pay *strict* attention in _all_ of your video lessons, sir! anyhow... i wanted to address what you said about German teams... as you know, sir, they have *severely* NERFED German aircraft - not so much at lower tier i guess; on the other hand, when you start going over 3.7 or so it becomes _extremely_ noticeable *especially* with aircraft like the Fw-190s their rudders are _awful_ and their engine performance is pretty bad.... likewise, the Bf-109s seem to be overheating _far_ too *much* and they have also lost a _lot_ of their rudder ability!! i notice in particular with the Bf-109 Gustavs and the Konrad of course.... the Fw-190Doras are simply nerfed to all heck along with the Ta-152s.... i hope they fix the German aircraft back to the way it was in patch 1.51 or so... i mean... it is becoming *RIDICULOUS*!! i don't know how you feel about it, boss, but i feel that it is almost *miserable* to fly Germans as of late because they are under-performing _so_ *badly*... thanks for the *AWESOME* video, though!!
You should come back to this plane and test it out, a year ago I got nothing but hit markers. My buddies today told me to use the plane because they think something change with the 15mm and I took it to battle and made 5 kills by just Burst firing and a lot less hit markers. I don't know if they buff the 15mm or not, but you should take it out again.
I flew this recently and immediately thought someone took the jam out my donut.

Now sits at 3.0. I actually like this plane. The gun and cannon velocities are closer together which works well for me.
F-2 became better and better these day.. love it ❤️

What a nice fight with the spits! I spaded this plane today and I quite enjoy it. I had the help of a squadmate and that helped a lot though as I was not able to finish some planes off in one pass. I thought it was my aim but I can take your criticism of the 15 mm to be the culprit eheheh, although my aim might be responsible for a considerable part of it. Great video!

Hey Jengar, I've been watching your videos for years now and I've always been enjoying them, so keep up the good work. Just a little bit of constructive criticism: When you state a plane's strengths and weaknesses, you always say something like "energy retention is good, speed is decent, climb rate is decent" and so on. Without any context these statements aren't very valuable. It would be really nice if you would compare it more to planes you typically see at the same BR and which ones you have to be careful of because you can't outrun them or outturn them (and also the other way around).

You can tell a good pilot by how they fly. That last guy Jengar fought was not able to recognize when Jengar had a damaged engine. A good pilot will recognize something like that and adjust his flying accordingly but this guy did not. He kept dog fighting until Jengar was in the drink.

My approach to flying the F2 has been to use it more as a fighter-bomber/fast attacker, both in AB and RB. (Although I only use a bomb with it in AB, I can’t hit a damn thing other than bases in RB) The 15mm does have a frustrating lack of stopping power, but with the armored targets belts (with the AP-I(c) rounds) I’ve found that it can surprise you. In both AB and RB, it can fairly easily kill medium tanks from 500m or less, and the very flat trajectory, high muzzle velocity and central mounting make it one of the most accurate cannons for ground-pounding that I’ve used.
And while there are plenty of ground-pounders in the German line with more powerful guns, they’re all (for the most part) a lot less comfortable to use due to the lower rate of fire. That, and most of them (with the possible exception of the Me-410 a1/u4 and b1/u4) tend to die very quickly if enemy fighters go after them, since they all bleed off speed very rapidly when maneuvering and can’t accelerate very well at low altitudes. With the F2, I tend to be a lot more successful on a consistent basis due to the plane being a fairly slippery target.
Also, while going head-on is a bad idea most of the time, getting a headshot on an enemy’s pilot from 1.2km away with the “what is armor?” AP-I(c) rounds is just too hilarious for me to resist making the attempt.
fair enough, i used the armored targets belt though in my flyouts, and they seemed lacking to me against planes. I didnt really test them yet against medium tanks!
Agreed on the BR part. It is one thing to have compression because the BRs only go from 1-9. It is another thing entirely to compress within those BRs. Put the F-1 at 2.3/2.7, put the F-2 at 2.7-3.0, problem solved. This isn't a problem specific to the 109s either, it absolutely sucks that the F-82 is a 5.0 plane when it should be 5.3.
well, they are small problems in the larger sceme, the tier V compression is the only serious br problem in my opinion, and definitely the primary thing they need to solve when it comes to br's.

I have similar issues with the plane in AB. I always ASSumed the F-1 and the F-2 had the same flight model, and that it was a lesser flight model than the F-4. The thing the F-2 can do that is uncommon for a 109 is to kill medium tanks. The 15mm MG with the right belts can do that. Otherwise, I am baffled by the F-2 being in the game at all. I feel bad for beginners who spent time and treasure to research and spade it, waiting for the payoff that never comes.
The problem with the 15mm's lack of killing power may be even worse in AB as planes are much tougher. When I flew it out, the hits happened but the crits were more rare, and a kill rarer still. Most of the time I'd get an assist when something with a lower BR but with a few .50 cal guns would take the kill.
I think if a person wants to treat the F-2 as an attacker that can maneuver, they are on the right track. If they are looking for a fighter, however, they should just focus on the F-1 and F-4.

I still rather fly the Bf 109 F-2 than the 109 E models when I want to fly lower tier planes like 3.0 - 3.7. I just got the 109 F-2 today and it sure helps alot to have it in my slots....thanks for posting JENGAR....looking forward to more videos in the future👍😎✈

Surprisingly I do better in the F-2 than in the F-1, F-4, and G-2 (trop). I feel my aiming is worse with the 20mm-equipped 109s (made worse by the ammo situation of the F-1), but I just feel at home with the F-2. I probably need to get more used to the ballistic properties of the 20mm. Otherwise the F-2 is a joy to fly given the right circumstances. My most successful 109 variant so far.

Hi Jengar, agree with your analysis of this plane. It can be fun loading it with the armour piercing rounds and ground attacking or using the rockets to bomber hunt :)

Great video, Jengar! I can't do anything with the BF's, so I really can't comment on this one. I'd really like "side climb" explained. Sounds simple I know, but... in Americans, I either go too far out and my team is dead before I can get back, or stay too close and meet Ki's and Bf's above me. (and die instantly) Can't seem to get the right distance to the side to climb, and know when to turn back in.
Side climbing and positioning is something you have to develop finesse in over time. Just start with taking it way out, and move ever closer in matches that follow untill you strike the fine line of perfection, not too close, out of range, but close enough to jump in when you decide the time is right.

You have some amazing skills I'd love to learn more I watch alot of your videos... The 109s have always been my favorite aircraft in game and I have the most success with the F-1 and F-4 models I agree though that the F-2 lacks in firepower and should probably switch br with the F-1
F-4 is the pinacle of the 109's for me ;) BR compared to efficiency combined with results and performance + looks ;)
Aaaah, I remember getting into the 109 tree all those years ago and thinking, "Is THIS it???!!!" but to be fair, they do rapidly improve... Totally agree about the BR being wrong because it just sin't fair to it where it is, is it?
Yeah, i also relive them memories often when revisiting stuff, i started with the germans :) yeah, this one should be 2.3/2.7.

When I flew F-1 and F-2 in AB, I remember thinking of the difference in cannon as being just a trade in ROF and ammo capacity. The 15mm felt weaker but was workable because it shot faster, high velocity, and more shells. But I am sure the 20mm version will be better on the F-4
if the br was the same i would agree. the f-2 is a br higher then the f-1.
The F2 is special because it is the ground attack variant of the me-109. The F2 is the only 109 that can carry anti-tank Rockets. The 15 mm Cannon also has a special ground belt. The special ground armor piercing ammunition will defeat light tanks from any side and medium tanks from the rear with just a few shots. It's possible to take out 75% of a tank column from the rear with careful use of rockets and bursts of the 15 mm ground belts. It particularly shines in the mixed game modes. Players in tanks won't be suspecting the tiny 109 to be able to sting so hard.
im sure it has its niche, its my least favorite 109 though.

There was a time when the 15mm were pretty good, because they had the tendency to produce a lot of pilot kills.
BR's have inflated so much since I played the game in the patch 1.3 days. Back then BR 3.3 was the hot zone for propeller fighters, where Bf 109 G-2, FW 190 A-5, Yak-3, I-185, La-5, P-47 and Typhoons were duking it out. Above that you basically only got a hand full of high end props like the D-12, the Bearcat and Tempest and then you were already in the jet era. There was a small niche for BR 4-ish fighters in between, like the P-51, the Ki-84, the 190 D-9 and odd, rarely played ones that had too much fire power for BR 3.X, but not the performance for high end props, like the 190 A-8. But generally everything above 3.3 to 3.7 was kind of a transitional thing, on your way to jets. Most of the action happened around 3.3 and that also was where most of the iconic, classical WW2 prop fighters were, so many people didn't seem to bother grinding much higher than that.
For an old fossile like me it is really strange to see 109 E's fight La-5s and see tier 2 fighters like the 109 F at BR 3.3 and more.
People back in the day were weirded out and appalled when Gaijin widened the BR spread so much that 109 F-4 could suddenly meet P-51s in RB battles. That seemed crazy to everyone back then.
gamebalance goes before reality in my eyes, but i wish gaijin would start only taking steps forwards.
Yeah, I agree, which might seem strange in case you noticed that I am ranting a lot about realistic flight models and stuff like that in the comments to your videos.
Ideally the flight models would be as realistic as possible and the balancing would still be prioritized by using BR in a way that makes sure aircraft meet equal foes, regardless of historical realism.
Of course I'm asking for a lot here. The biggest issue is just player skill, I suppose. I acknowledge that it might be next to impossible to determine what plane is how powerful if the players don't know how to use them properly.
I wonder whether that changed a bit, because from what I've heard, the player base shrank and stagnated a lot in the last few years, which on the plus side might mean that there are fewer newbees and noobs playing and the people who stuck with the game are more experienced, raising the average skill level.
That is just speculation on my part. I haven't played enough since coming back to get a feel for the game climate and meta yet.
now you get a 20mm canon with option to 2 additional 15mm gun pods. It makes the thinkg really nice to fly
I think that what you forgot to mention is that when you put on gt belts you can destroy medium tanks.
i did forget, but better not teach ppl to go ass to the grass in a 109 ;)

I've never really gotten along with the 109s for some reason. Mmmuuuccchhh prefer the 190s.
At which BR do you find the 109s outperform spits in the vertical? I don't seem to do well in vertical fights when fighting (L)F MkIXs for example.

My favorite is the g2 trop with the pods. It's the only one I find that does well with them, I'm working with the k4 right now trying to get better. I used to hate all of them, until I learned how to fly them properly. Love them now...... My little grinder
g6 w/ 30mm dakka is my favorite.. who needs dogfighting when you can one-shot the enemy in a headon, and you can easily deal with those pesky b-17's ;)
in rb the pods hinder the flight performance too much for me ;)

Oh it's a 15mm...that's why I wasn't doing as much damage, I only chose it over the E3 cuz of the Nose mounted guns, but since they ain't 20mm's I might just switch back

The AP ammo for the 15mm cannon has pretty good penetration, how does it do againt tanks in ground combat?
The pen is exactly as it says it is, letting you pen the top of any tank, and the sides and backs of most of them at its BR. The problem they do almost no damage after penetrating. You can have multiple direct 15mm hits into the same crew in a tank and they might only turn yellow or orange. Was pretty disappointed when I tried it myself recently.

All 15 mms really do for me is spark, but if your bf-109 has fun pods, you can manage
Punching two of three Spits when outnumbered and outclassed.... it is not a job for everyone mate - pretty good! 8)
Just a small remark about speed you are mentioning on beginning of your reviews - it seems to me, they are rather lower, than I would expect. Is it IAS or real? :)

I dunno Jengar, the guns on the F-1 and F-2 might not be the one hit kill MG 151/20 of that F-4 and up, but the flight performance of the F-1 and F-2 is pretty dang good. I wouldn't really put either of them any lower than 3.0 in RB.
f-1 is 2.3 though in rb ;) the 3.3 seems steep compared to that. 2.7 seems fair for both to me.
although i can imagine 3.0. still hard on uptiers, but we have to be carefull for the lower tiers as well.
Jengar I know it is. I'm saying it's heavily undertiered :) Neither F-1 or F-2 should have equal or lower BR than the E-models, either, as the F's are easily superior, and the E-models all seem to be doing fine at their current BR's.
K4 is love K4 is life....Though i did like how light the G14 felt

I feel like it's only at 3.3 because of how strong the 15mm is in the ground attack role in combined RB. I actually prefer it to the Hs.129 just because of how easy it is to do roof shots with the F2's vertical maneuverability. Pairs well with the Panzer IV *F2* at 3.3, funnily enough.

i just equip armor piercing rounds for the 15mm ; i use the 7,92 to kill planes and the 15mm to kill med tanks

Jengar me neither ;) i despise lawn mowers especially in german teams but as you said the 15mm is unreliable so i equip ap to either get a lucky pilot snipe or kill med tanks AFTER the game has been decided

honestly i quite like the f2 atleast where it is now, the 15mm while having a bit less firepower has more ammunition and fires faster and i generally do as good as or slightly better in it as i do in the f1, it's turning is also better so it's a bit more of a turn fighter against things like the american p-40e

Jengar, I play arcade only so far, and in arcade it is the same. It doesnt have the guns to be flown as intended. If it was faster perhaps it might be worth it. F1 also muchore forgiving for a noob like me.

The f4 is my best 109. I am struggling with the g2. I heard it's on the same airframe as the f series, and I fly it basically the same as the f4, but no dice. any tips? I'm not sure where I'm going wrong
The F-4 is a monster. I prefer it over the G-2.
F4 has a much friendlier BR, that's probably why. G2 is just as good but faces tougher competition. TBH, most of the 109s are a tad overtiered.
German top tier props usually only work very well in the hands of good players. I've played Griffons and F8Fs and i can say that they're much more friendly than a K4 or a Dora.
While I haven't gotten that far into the tech tree, I can say that the early Spits are FAR easier to play than any of the 109s. That being said, I still prefer my german planes because I've gotten used to them and play them the most (that, and the undertiered clubfest-yet-still-sucks-because-shitty-teams america)
be disiplined Sam, the f-4 is the sweet spot for the 109's with performance compared to br. The higher you go from there the less room for error you have. Need to sideclimb more to ensure alt advantage and make as few mistakes as possible!
Never have been a real fan of the F-2 some times the 15mm works, but most of the time it is just hits. And the 3.3 BR. really doesn’t help it, maybe for ground forces players but not for air realistic. After I spaded it I don’t think I’ve flown it out ever since. F-1 and F-4 are much better aircrafts in my opinion. I should fly it out again though. I love all 109’s. Nice flying as well!

"I am a bit sceptic about the 15mm" and then goes on and kills a jug with 30 rounds and an F Mk IX with 18 rounds!!! For me, the F2 is the best flying 109 and the 15mm just ads versatility since it can even kill medium tanks with ground target belts.
the p-47 was a pilot snipe, but apart from that of course they do some damage, and when you are in the right spot you'll still do damage. i flew 14 matches though, and the overall experience for me was that the 15mm often lets you down.

Not sure if you'll see this comment but how come you don't use the rockets? I haven't played this plane yet and I don't know how badly the rockets impact performance but with the loss of the cannon I thought it would make sense to take the rockets. I know mowing the lawn in a 109 is dumb but I actually do it alot when the enemy is all at their base or some super high bomber that my teammates are chasing down.
because carrying rockets under the wings influences the planes flight performance a lot, making it easy meat for any decent fighter.
Then what is the point of even flying this plane out? I feel like in the right hands it may be useful but I can't find anything to give it an additional 1.0 BR over the F1.
I’d say the E3 should be 2.3 , the E4, the f1 and the f2 at 2.7. It doesn’t make sanse that the E4 is at 3.0 while the f1 is 2.3, when last outperforms the first.
The f2 has you said, is too high at 3.3, the spit mk9 outperforms you in everything, and the 15mm struggles a lot, especially with the p47d-25
The F2... i hear some people love it, others hate it... i find the 15mm utterly ineffective in a BZ.

I haven't played the F1 or the F2 (skipped them for the F-4) but about you talking about how the 15mm is underwhelming - your video isn't really supporting that lol, maybe you could've shown some footage of you shooting a plane multiple times and yet it doesn't go down? I mean, if i didn't know any better i'd think that 15mm would be p good judging by how you ripped that jug's wing off with just a few rounds.. just saying.

Even today the F-2 is still trash, I will never fly this thing again, I rather fly the Re.2001 with it's engine overheating every 2 seconds.
