  • I discuss the EAS (Electronic article surveillance) security tags used on clothes and other high theft items as well as some of the tools to remove them. Don't ask me how to steal stuff, I will not respond. Look it up online.

    Thanks mate! It's another thing that's fascinated me for years. Like locks or phones, and these tags are types of locks in a way.

    Damn!!! Such a cool video I really look forward to see the one on the dvd tags :)
    Very well explained and you got some nice tools there! Wish I also had that black key, looks cool :P Shops here still use these spider tags and alos the other big ones with the metal piece release. I have seen newer tags but can't remember right now. If I see one I will make a picture for you!

    So I just have to buy the black key you were using and walk right out with some neat stuff. Awesome :)

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 10 lety +1

      Get caught with that key in a store and it would be likely considered burglary tools. Also, those keys have a permanent tag in them that will set the alarm off upon entry or exit. This video is for educational purposes only.

    How small can these get and where are there more resources for this including types of sensors/detectors? Looking to protect cool glassware in my bar. This would mean permanent adherence to the object. Did you ever make a video about disposable security tags?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 7 lety

      I've never heard of these being used in a bar type setting, don't know if they'd hold up to washing. And on a glass, they could simply be peeled off or mutilated. I did make a video on disposable and ink tags, don't have the link handy, but it's in my channel.

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 10 lety

      No, those work by pressure, not magnetism. A magnet, no matter how strong, would not work.

      Will Phoneman ive seen tags which require the hook mechanism which also have ink. Is this a new and different tag? Also i have seen the hook mechanism on Wish.com for 2-3 dollars + shipping. In this video u said these mechanism are expensive do u think this is possibly a non-functional prop or novelty version?
      Pure educational purposes.

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 7 lety

      No, those are just the supertag (tag that uses the hook) coupled with an ink tag. The ink tag simply replaces the standard "pin" of the supertag. You can do this with most of the tags I've shown that take the tack/pin.

    How do u take off the circular ones

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 10 lety

      A magnetic detacher. I didn't show it because it's a strong magnet, and I didn't want it near the computer. I'd reccomend a "superlock detacher", do a google search for one.

  • @zachmeisner
    @zachmeisner Před 7 lety

    how did you get them?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 7 lety

      A lot were from the companies that make them, I'd call for samples (with a little social engineering). I was able to get some from store employees, and others are a mixture of ebay, finding them, and taking them off for friends/family when they were accidentally left on. took quite awhile all in all, to get tags, tools, etc.

  • @mrsemifixit

    So the electronic ones don't put out a signal they just disrupt the signal one of the towers is putting out to the frequency the other tower responds to and that activates the alarm?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 8 lety

      yes, that is correct. there's no battery or power source in them.

    • @mrsemifixit
      @mrsemifixit Před 8 lety

      +Will Phoneman and it does this by just a wire and magnet? I'm curious how like at a library they have you rub the item you're checking out on a type of rubber. What's going on there?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 8 lety

      +mrsemifixit that is a type I did not cover, called an electromagnetic tag. when you magnetize them they are deactivated, when you demagnetize then they are activated. the opposite of the acousto magnetic tags. the device they rub it on is just a magnet

    • @mrsemifixit
      @mrsemifixit Před 8 lety

      +Will Phoneman Ah ok. And what exactly is in the tag?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman  Před 8 lety

      +mrsemifixit a similar metal 2 what is in the a.m. tags. it responds to magnetic fields and vibrates.
