    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman Před 9 měsíci

      The btech is in fact just a rebranded anytone, even the FCC ID comes back to Anytone. I believe the Anytone 878 does support AES, and will work with Motorola, Hytera, etc. Any radio that supports AES meeting the DMR standards should work

    • @Munky332
      @Munky332 Před 9 měsíci

      @@WillPhoneman I figured as much, Looks like the TYT does not support AES, as the CPS software doesn't have anything except "basic" and "enhanced" and is very limited. Such a shame because it would be amazing if a $100-130 radio could use AES, but I guess I'll just have to pony up for the Anytone.

      It should just be a matter of hooking it up and using it. On a normal phone line, it won't work as a payphone, but it will work as a regular phone. If you hooked it up and get no dial tone, you may try swapping the red and green wires. The handset may also be bad

    I worked for Bellsouth from 98-03. We used these up to just before Y2K. They then changed us over to Itronix laptops. Southwestern Bell and other "baby bells" may have went a similar route. We were able to receive and close our jobs on these, as well as various other tasks. Digital Techs (technicians that worked on carrier systems, T1s, SLC5 and SLC96) may have utilized the serial port vis the VT100 program that you see listed in one of the menus. I believe you could use the built in dial up modem for VT100 as well. We also had small printers, similar to receipt printers, that were in our trucks so that we could print off the job. You had to use the 6p6c cords that came with the device in order to print to the printer. It used the same RJ12 on the back of the unit that was used by the built in modem. The little black block on the battery board is an inverter for the built in backlight on the unit. The backlight has the same green glow at the "Indiglow" backlight in the Timex watches. I have a couple of the units that I have tinkered with before. I also have a much larger unit that was made by CMC. It has a larger screen, serial, and parallel ports similar to a PC

    came for a video showing how the change tray got collected--ended up learning a lot of cool stuff! thanks! when "red boxing" became more difficult and fell out of fashion, did this require a physical change to the pay phone (i.e. sending a maintenance worker, or even installing a new model) or was it thwarted remotely without need for that?

    • @WillPhoneman
      @WillPhoneman Před rokem

      Several phone companies converted their phones to "smart boards" where all of the cost calculation and coin counting was done by a computer board inside the phone, thus eliminating the need for a special phone line and making it immune to the red box tones. It required opening the phone and removing the original board, and replacing it with a smart board, as well as changing the relay coil. They likely changed the phones with the most fraud first, then slowly converted others as needed.
