  • black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving ,It marks the start of the Christmas shopping season . Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices, black Friday has been the busiest shopping day of the year but in resent years it’s popularity is fading away to the point of no relevance in most states, as online shopping took over in 2020 ,in this video I going VERY early in the morning as a Black Friday tradition inside the retail stores on Black Friday to see the foot traffic inside the mall ,department stores and electronics stores and it’s NOT looking good for the retailers

    I can imagine owning an $80k truck. But I suppose I’m content driving my 22 year old truck to work in the morning. I can not imagine spending $80k for a car to take me somewhere I don’t want to be. Monday-Friday. 8+ hours per day. But I’d sure look cool during my commute, I guess.

    This makes me sad. Shopping malls used to be a hangout for young people when I was coming up. You could spend an entire afternoon with your friends with 20 bucks. You could buy a gift for someone, a little something for yourself, and a bite to eat at the food court. A matinee ticket at the movies cost a little over four bucks.
    Now kids are stuck in their rooms at home, communicating with the friends they never get to see from behind a screen. It’s too dangerous and expensive to go out.

    • @Novaximus
      @Novaximus Před 5 měsíci

      20 years later and Amazon still leans on the postal service for last mile. They make billions per year while the postal service is broke using 40 year old vehicles. Internet home delivery simply would not be affordably possible if not for the cheap labor being used by the postal service for package delivery.
      I think Big Business such as Amazon are abusing the indented purpose of the postal service. They are making a lot of money. the consumer is getting almost free convenience at below store price.
      It sounds like a win/win until you understand that it's the worker who has to pay that piper. Which I'm sure nobody cares about if you're not amongst the working class. Perhaps that's why nobody is working these jobs? Perhaps the labor shortage drives costs up? Perhaps labor shortage contributes to worse customer service and supply chain issues... More people have realized what most of us have known for years: There's a growing awareness of marketing tactics these companies use like jacking up prices and trying to make people think they're getting deals. Additionally, many companies don't bother offering good deals when they know people will buy their products regardless.
    In the past, a lot of companies would offer discounts ranging from 50% to 80%, but these days, it's more like 25% - quite a drop. As I mentioned, they also prices generally are higher overall, and people don't want to spend what they don't have.
    Companies just don't care as much anymore to give customers actual deals, a lof them just want to screw customers and are more greedy than ever.

      Hopefully 🤞 people are wising up and not being so materialistic. Saving their hard earned money for living expenses: (shelter)mortgage/rent, groceries, (utilities)water, electricity, trash pickup, etc. I’m so happy I have never been materialistic and always a saver. Living frugally and being a minimalist, I retired at 60 free of debt in 2021 with my employer matched and unmatched retirement accounts, my nice size savings and my emergency fund which will see me through at least 2 years of my expenses. Not to mention collecting my well earned Social Security benefits I paid into for decades. The last 24 years busting my butt working in healthcare as a (RT)Respiratory Therapist and through the Covid/Delta pandemic 😷. To save money in today’s ridiculous inflationary economy our family of retirees consolidated. I moved from my previous residence(rented). My sister, her husband and their son opened their home 🏡 for me(my sister’s brilliant idea 💡). I’m renting a room and contributing money for household necessities: groceries. A win, win for all of us. We’re gratefully blessed, thriving and enjoying a well earned comfortable retirement. Examples, I moved $60K of my savings into a high interest CD; and successfully saved another $10K to move into an even higher interest CD. God is providing. So no fears or worries here. This is true wealth.

      Places like Walmart encourage online shopping by offering online only prices. I still prefer going to the store because I want it now not when The UPS driver finally shows up.
      Funny thing just happened to me lately though, I had my eye on something from Walmart but it was online price only. The last time I tried ordering from Walmart online they made me wait half the day before giving me a pickup time and when they finally E-mailed me they only had one of the two items I ordered. They offered to send me the second one in a couple of days but I wasn't going to be around to receive it. That and my printer wasn't working so I couldn't printout the pickup info anyway. I wasn't sure how that was going to workout when I got there anyway. So I canceled the order. The funny thing that happened lately was I saw something online and thought there was no chance I was going to be able to get it for that price and after the last time ordering on line I was like why bother! Well I was walking around one of their stores the other day for a different reason and they had what I saw online for the same price. 😁SCORE!

There are things you can buy online that are pretty universal without a need to try on, or see in person, but when there's a product you're unsure of, want to see options in the flesh in front of you and have it immediately, there will always be a need for IRL shopping. Also the social aspect, people like going to shop and using it as an excuse to eat out with friends/family.

    Retailers have trained the Customer to shop online... I love when I go in to a brick and mortar store, and they smile and say, we are out of stock on that.. but we can order it for you!.... well dude, I can order it myself, AND since I have to order it, I'll Google around for the LOWEST price, from the thousands of online outlets....

      @digitalwallflower Před 5 měsíci

      No not necessarily being nice. They're instructed and coached to say that by managers. And where I worked we were only allowed to price match with a retailer that had physical brick and mortar stores. We were also forced to meet an online order quota each day. We were left with the choice to either lie to the customer and tell them its out of stock we can order it at the kiosk, or end up in the managers office for a sit down. @@dogmd7
