Amazing footage, thanks Leo ! I saw a report saying they had 40 foot waves at Mavericks !!!
@SkyNet-ty1tm thank you very much for the SUPER THANKS . I saw that same report about Mavericks and what amazes me is the surfers that came from all over the world for this event 🏄♂️🌊
CowaBunga, dude!!@@LeoMetalTraveler
Good luck with that!@@LeoMetalTraveler
@@LeoMetalTraveleryup happens every year. They get the call and fly in from all over. Looks a little chaotic though
Thank you so much for all the coverage on Cali...unbelievable what is going on ALL OVER the bay area.
Tell me about it
Thank you Leo!
Thanks for bringing us so many places. I used ro think nothing of driving to the Bay Area on a spur-of-the-moment road trip. Now I just won't. It's not the same, but I do very much appreciate that I got to see it here. Muchas gracias, Señor! 👍
Thank you for this Pacifica video. I love the huge waves but I am sorry for the people who are getting flooded. Stay safe!
Thank you too
Just watched a 10 - 12 minute video of Portland Maine. From one coast to the other. Neither are fairing well. Sad to see. Stay safe, appreciate your efforts on keeping people informed.
😮😳😳Oh my gosh!!!! Those are huge waves!!!! Stay safe folks.
It’s wild 🌊🏄♂️
More like get common sense folks
@@stevegonzales527Yeah take out this corrupted broken government justice system.
Ah Pacifica. I miss that magical scrubby little place. It was the last kinda sorta blue collarish spot in the (close) Bay area that wasn't crime ridden.
Kinda like part of Huntington Beach down here.
@@panatypical Nothing REMOTELY like today's HB.
Take it from a guy who's lived in P Town for 26 years - and closed down the Bear on more nights than I can remember in my misspent 70's South Bay youth.
Back in the 1990s, a friend and I drove to Pacifica during a similar major storm. We were parked and standing by the seawall, when we were drenched by the aftermath of a broken sneaker wave. My pants literally fell down from the wave's force. A few days later, I found sand and small shells in the engine compartment - funny, yet very scary stuff!
great footage Leo. I almost got an apartment in Pacifica back in the day. Right on the coast. Till the locals said "it won"t last". They were right
Great views, but not during this time of the year. It’s happening every year now.
It’s neat to see how many people just have sneakers and not proper waterproof boots.
Thanks Leo. Never underestimate Mother Nature
Truth!
And Never second guess it.
Go home and stay safe, Leo! We need you a long time. ❤
I’m home
@@LeoMetalTravelerGOOD! Stay safe Brother.
Leo, your channel continues to surpass my expectations! 👍🏼👍🏼
Happy to hear that!
Very common to have ‘rogue waves’ in the winter along the Northern California Coast…I remember this from 50 years ago. My sister and I could not understand why it is called the ‘Pacific’ ocean…meaning peaceful…it is so NOT!!😂
Great coverage and thank you so much for what you do! Blessings!
Cool that's mother nature, beautiful!
It sure is!
Would you say that you love hot moms 😂
@HeadNtheClouds NO! Just Mother Nature, cold, warm, and hot.
Great stuff. Love to tell you my SF story. Moved here 1.5 years ago from Phoenix. Been attacked twice by crazy drug homeless. I think real stories by actual people tell the situation even better than the under-reported statistics of theft, assault, etc. Happy to share with you.
@@homerj806 That's how I feel about the Palestinians, am I right?
Welcome to hospital people from the Bay Area
Hospitable
@@otisspunkmeyer9339 Edit, hospitalized
Attacked so many times just sitting at the beach parking and parking near the beach. The size up every vehicle, crazies trying every door handle sometimes and nobody does anything. SF coastal beach areas seem to be a guarantee of getting the windows smashed in but IDK what they did since the homeless tents went clear. The military found the homeless at bioweapons labs and warehouses killed with bioweapons or organ harvested. They were considered an impossible disease in the streets.
Thank you so much. This is why I loved traveling - seeing the real life of locals.
Metal Leo i hope you don't rust
😁
“Extreme Leo”
That's crazy❕
Thank you for sharing. It's nice to see from the warmth & comfort of my couch. 😉
p. s. You need hip waders instead of those boots. Heheheee
Thanks for the tips!
Pacifica is a small surf town south of SF. We use to go boogie boarding there. It’s also where they have the mavericks big wave competition. But those waves are farther out.
Was at Camp Pendleton in 1991-92. Storms came in and tanks were all over the place in Jan 92. only 2 ways to get in it was crazy
Crazy huge waves! Stay safe out there!
I have no sympathy for people that insist on owning properties along the water and then crying about it when Mother Nature does her usual thing. For all those who chose to build/buy so close to the water, the damage is predictable and inevitable; the coastline will continue to wear away.
These residents deserve to live with their risky/foolish decisions; they do not deserve FEMA funds to rebuild/refurbish each time there's an extreme weather event (which will continue to escalate). If one chooses to reside there, deal with the fallout and don't expect a bailout or subsidy. Wanting a "priceless" view and coastal lifestyle should not become the public's problem. It's called consequences!
Shame on the corrupt Coastal Commission and city planners for enabling such insanely dangerous, costly living conditions in the first place. Stop permitting buildings to be built so close to the ocean and stop insuring those homes.
You said it my new best friend!! I couldn’t have said it better myself! In a valley in Washington state it would flood EVERY year, without fail. And the residents would always say “we choose to live here and here we will live. We’ll rebuild even better this time!!” Every single year!!! I never understood why the insurance companies paid off so they had $$ to rebuild!!!! What a bunch of people who played the system….and won. UGH!!😠
This is similar to Palos Verdes. There are houses falling into sink holes, because they put houses on land that wasn’t fully stable. Don’t have a house THAT close to the beach, or don’t buy houses on land that isn’t stable. People really need to research the land and area before even buying a house. Make sure your house wasn’t built over a former burial grounds or former dumping grounds, I’ve seen that type of stuff as well.
Good Luck With That 🎉
Perils of living right on the waterfront. Watching this got me wondering how those many decades-old piers withstand the salt water, pounding surf, and endlessly shifting sands without experiencing major tilting or collapsing.
Do they drill the posts deep into the bedrock?
I can’t even imagine how do that, in the ocean, but they must do that for the deep sea oil rigs, etc, right? Great footage. Stay safe & grounded, Leo!
🌊📱😎💦
Pacifica pier has a long history of maintenance issues related to erosion over time - particularly where the pier meets the land/seawall.
They need a wall of sand bags in front of their wood makeshift fences...as a buffer.
Also, I too was wondering about that Pacifica pier as that has to be a tremendous amount of pressure that the waves are putting on those support structures. It would be nice for a structural engineer to comment on this.
For New Years can you please do a montage video of all your favourite saying.
Thanks for your bravery. Couple times you turned your back to the ocean. Be careful! Never take your eye off.
Thank you, I will
I lived in San Diego back in the early 80's, near Ocean Beach. and a memorable storm there had waves breaking every few minutes over the OB pier (which was quite a bit higher than this one). Fortunately, all the land near there was public beach at the time, so the damage was minimal. But in La Jolla they let people build just off the sand, and there was a restaurant there which got flooded every few years (and trashed by the storm I'm talking about). I'm not sure if it's still there. Politicians love to let people blame climate change for fires and storms, since it relieves them of the responsibility for letting people build on the sand or in the middle of a forest.
So true any excuse to control your life, I remember this area before the pier was built and all the rocks and concrete were added, the road that runs Parallel to the beach use to flood all the time and parts of the road would be washed away but it was rebuilt and we thought of something better than constantly rebuilding it great planning by the city back than definitely good old days. Totally agree with you
I use to go to "ocean-Beach" for the "chili-festival"-I thought it was a great place &nice people,-I like San-Diego
Exactly, letting people build in a naturally unsafe environment . 🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🫤🫤🫤🫤🥺🥺🥺
Yeah the eighties, early 83 I think lived in IB it took out the end of the pier, worked in Coronado and the strand was blocked off.
Letting them sure they pay big for that unsafe environment they rebuilt there homes a lot over the years last time I was there like a month ago there’s a empty lot where there use to be a home so there’s definitely a price to pay for that my sister lived couple houses off that street and it’s a real joy to live there in my experience. Just feet from the ocean wow not so much for cars and homes though the weather destroys them
I have friends that live there. The pier is a favorite place of mine. In 45 years of going there I have never seen it this bad. Thanks I live in East Oregon right now.
Have friends who live there. My old stomping ground. Those waves are huge! Wow! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing
@@LeoMetalTraveler your welcome this was amazing!!
It's a wild ocean, nothing can change that@
Wow, I know exactly where that is, I hang out there with my two toddler daughters on the weekends, I love the cold wet and windy days over there.
Here where I live in Saratoga, Ca. it's warm most of the time.
Wow! Those are some waves 🌊 🌊😱 Thank you Leo. Stay safe and don’t get too waterlogged!!
Thank you, I will
Now its the time where we get to see how many people end up hurt or dead because they can't resist getting too close to the waves. I know someone who's neck got broken from a wave like that, spent the next 20 years in physical therapy, be careful.
Thank God they are using boards and sand bags to STOP THE OCEAN. In the Midwest they have this a product called
"Tornado-B-Gone" and it's a life saver, it's not cheap and always out of stock but worth searching for it. Do you have any videos of roofs with "Hurricane Stopper" paper rolled out on them that you can show?
In AZ we use "Cactus In A Can" to grow instant walls for blocking wind storms also, it's $12,000 a can (in California because they will pay it) but only $20 here.
Thanks Leo
Waves Waves Waves! I could watch and listen to them for hours. But many people don’t understand the power of the sea. I was in a life-threatening accident having been pinned under a rogue wave many years ago and the ocean schooled me well to respect their power and ability to cause horrific damage.
Folks, please be mindful when at the ocean.
Leo, if I could afford to join I sure would! Please watch yourself my new friend. Be well and keep safe in your travels. ❤️🐈
BETTER coverage than MSM! Good job and THANKS!
Always,thanks!
Whoaa!! This is incredible!! Those are definitely huge waves!! Love your content on the Bay Area my friend!
Big thanks
Glad to see you documenting these events. The ocean will do..
That was crazy today! I got my footage from the air a few miles down the coast on the other side of Pacifica. Nice shots!
Good coverage. Wave watching is so much fun. I hope they can fix everything.
Awesome power in those waves! Thx for sharing and getting wet for us..
Any time!

BOOM! Cali expect ur homeowners insurance to go up ANOTHER 40% again just like here in Florida.😁
Not easy for a resident to handle the constant pacifica chill
Those storms coming in from the Pacific are pushing these waters on shore. Never thought it a good idea to live on the beach.
Great reporting Leo. Thank you. I’m in Hawaii. Crazy to see waves like this over there.
It gets bad in the winter here, but this year has been one of the worst
Thanks for filming Pacifica with all that water. WOW! I was kinda worried about your safety, but you semed to know when to go. Thanks again and Happy New Year.

Good video of powerful mother nature stuff! 👍🏻
thank you for the best footage I've found regarding this storm, cheers from Georgia! ✌
Glad you enjoyed it! cheers!!!
Natural disasters, economic collapse, epidemics, wars, wasn't this written??
Yeah, there’s probably 1 million climate change articles that said this exact thing was going to happen over the past 30 years
Don't forget wars in the Middle East
But at the same time then I'll give a s*** about you Rich f****** on the coast
don’t forget the loving alphabet people
Whose economy is collapsing? US economy is pretty darn good.
Thanks for the video. Those are some awesome waves!
They are!
Good Job recording
Thank You👍🌟
Thank you too
Wow!! Crazy high!
In the 30 years I lived in Pacifica 1985-2015 I never saw it that bad. Walked and biked in that very area a few times a month.
Thanks for sharing
Wow, that must be far-out
Great news!!!
Dude, how did you know to get down to Pacifica??
You're everywhere 😂😅
Looks like the residents fell a little short of their storm prepping, while the surfers are looking out on the water with longing...🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
Thanks, Leo! 👍👍
The only way to be adequately prepared is to leave the area. Market value of these homes must be less than 0.
Did you see the surfers riding those 40 foot waves at Mavericks?
@LeoMetalTraveler Oh, no, I didn't! They're there already?
This I gotta see... wowza 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
Thanks!!
Careful, Leo!
thank you ! will do
I have lived in Pacifica for eleven years, i used to go to the beach and pier sometimes when i would cut class at Oceana High School 😂. The ocean is beautiful, however treacherous when Stormy. That area was always iffy.

A surfers dream to have these waves on the beach
Surfing conditions are too choppy!
This is a King Tide. They occur once every 18.6 years when the Lunar Node aligns with Sun/Earth ecliptic axis.
I remember the bay area in the early 90s, entire neighborhoods weee falling apart with all the rain.
