    About:
I am Paul "Pie" Ingram. I am a hiker and filmmaker from the UK that's living in Finland and hiking all over the world. Pieonthetrail is all about sharing my hiking films, reviewing gear, and sharing tips and tricks. In 2015 I Thru-Hiked the 2189-mile Appalachian Trail; in 2017, I finished the 2700-mile Continental Divide Trail (CDT). I've also hiked:
    - The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal
    - 400+ miles on the high routes in California's Sierra Nevada
    - 400+ miles crossing Iceland from NW to S
    - My current project, "seasonslostfilm," has me hiking the East Highland Way in Scotland in January and again in June.

Love how honest he is about gear he didn't like. In so many of these videos they seem to sugarcoat their experience.

Would be really interesting for an old timer to gather up old gear and show us what people used to thruhike with..

Maybe finding an old-timer who used old school gear who is still hiking is like trying to find a morbidly obese person in the old folks home. There's probably a good reason you don't see many.

The Capilene thermal weights are amazing as you can wear them for a huge spectrum of temps from 0 to about 60 degrees. They are extremely warm just very breathable. try a pair of wind or rain shell on top and you will love them again. Especially the hoody. Great sleeping clothes and baselayer.

@@pieonthetrail In those past four months I have found and bought the lightheart gear SoLong 6. Like the Altaplex, it is designed to fit tall hikers and after testing it, I can confirm that is does that pretty well. It´s also easy to set up and fairly lightweight for the comfort and space it provides. It might be a nice shelter for you to review! Anyways, thanks for responding to my last comment and keep up the good work :)

Solid gear list but terrible water filter. Then again, this was from over four years ago and the more recent deficiencies discovered were not know about the Sawyer back then, save and except that it breaks upon freezing, always clogs badly and doesn’t remove a lot of parasites from cattle tanks/ really dirty water. There are so many better UL style water filters on the market now.
