    Goob, wanted to let you know how much we have enjoyed your videos since we first found you . Learned a great deal from you videos, info about trail, how you handled problems that popped up, gear issues and. But what grabbed us most was how, even tho a seasoned thru hiker, you still had many moments of just plain loving the beauty of it all. That’s our goal. Thanks for the inspiration and Merry Christmas!

      Thanks! I’m just glad I fell in love with hiking and I still feel like even the most miserable days out there are among the best days of my life!

    Those Darn Tough socks sure have been through the durability test grounds. As you point out, shoes can be a big player too. I was surprised at the number of survivors you had for your Triple Crown. Congratulations again!!

    Dude I met you the first night on the AT, I’m Hopper. We ran into each other again somewhere in VA. That’s awesome you did the whole Triple Crown. Congrats man. Hell of an achievement

    Wow, to think I worry about my gear wearing out on the relatively few miles I do per year. It's great to see all those items that made it 7500+ miles. And yep, those first items were not what I expected. Fun video!

    I go through socks quick, guess i should get some of those.
    Ever thought about getting a sponsor? There is a good candidate.

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I don’t think I’d ever accept a sponsorship, it just feels wrong to be paid to push products, even if I really like their stuff.

    I'm buying gear now, to hike the PCT. You have been a guide on what I'm buying, thanks so much. Congrats on triple crown, by the way. What's next for you?

      Time to knock out the rest of the National Scenic Trails.

    Great video Goob. Nice to know there are still quality items still being made. Did you spray your cloths with insect repellant? How often did you do laundry? Thanks for sharing. Stay Safe and HIKE ON!!!

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Před 8 měsíci

      None of my clothes have been sprayed with repellent. I tried to do laundry every time I was in a town but sometimes I couldn’t get it done for some reason or another.

    Love following you and your adventures. I really like how you would over night in town every 3 or 4 days. That’s the way I would definitely do my thru hike. How are you feeling after 3 thru hikes in 3 years? What is planned for the future.

      My body is still holding up very well, I guess I’m in my peak hiking prime. In the coming years I’ll be knocking out the rest of the 11 National Scenic Trails.

    How did you deal with fear of bears? I went on my first backpacking trip this weekend and I was terrified of the bears and all the hunters firing guns in the woods. I wore bright colors but I was scared of the bears. PS I’m excited to keep checking back I just know some time soon you’re going to post a “upcoming hike announcement” haha

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Just keep reassuring yourself that bears are more scared of you than you are of them. There's nothing wrong with always carrying bear spray with you to ease your mind and always hang your food well away from where you'll be sleeping. I saw 10 black bears on the AT, none on the PCT, and 3 grizzlies on the CDT. Each encounter was different and I'm glad I got the chance to see them all.

    Why did you sleep in your puffy? Also why only did you hike in it in the mornings? Didn't you need it in higher elevation early in Colorado?

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Před 8 měsíci +1

      When overnight lows were about 35 and below I needed the extra warmth of the puffy jacket. On those cold mornings I would start the day wearing it and after 30-45 minutes I would be plenty warm. As long as you keep moving you’ll be fine hiking in a t-shirt even when the temperature is near freezing.

    • @ambulowan
      @ambulowan Před 8 měsíci

      @@goobsadventures That's also my experience in low elevation and hiking around freezing temperatures. I run very hot when i move and always have to manage heat, especially when a lot of elevation gain is involved. I hike in a very breathable summer pants and the most breathable running shoes. A softshell with maybe some baselayer is enough. I would sweat my ass off in a puffy around freezing temps.
      But i don't have any experience in high elevation and exposed areas where there is more wind, less oxygen means less blood circulation and feet and hands can get very cold. So i have a lot of respect and debate if i would need a puffy. Or if an onion layer system would be enough with a base layer, an alpha direct layer, a softshell, a rain jacket and maybe something else.
      I have seen people hike the CDT and PCT without a puffy but they were always people who hike all day and as soon as they are in camp they are in their Quilt/Mummy.
