    Bears are truly amazing. It's funny when you see it at first, cute and seemingly slow and lethargic. And then he does this half assed paw towards you, and you realize even that was scary as hell. The speed at which he dropped off the tree and ran from you was incredibly startling.

    This is an amazing encounter; it is incredibly, close-up noticeable that their size is about strength- he girded himself up twice and while holding onto the tree had the ability to balance AND swing at you - he was prepared for a comeback - his sense of smell and hearing were on full as they guided his eyes. He climbed once and was then emboldened the second time, because he IS a predator that is opportunist - so one should never relax their vigilance, and he moved like lightning once he moved off. He tried to eat that string - but scared me with his snort - I grew up with archery hunting - mostly fish - we took all precautions when in bear country to not encounter bears. Hats off to your prescence of mind.

    Shows you show quickly an animal's behavior will change. People will say the bear was being friendly, but it was showing a typical predatory nature. It's trying to get as close to the potential prey as possible by being smooth and calm.

      black bears will rarely attack unless felt unfleeably threatened by humans or a cub is with them. However Grizzlies and polar bears are in a totally different species category. Their nature is this way also because of grizzly bears because a grizzly bear will not hesitate to eat a black bear

      I wouldn't say biggest pussies, but if they don't have cubs near by, they're like large raccoons. The reason he swipped is because he didn't know what was up there. It wasn't an act of agression really, just to see if something was alive.

    Very good self control by this hunter. It can be pretty nerve racking to have a bear coming up into your stand, not to mention taking a swing at you. Takes a lot of self control to keep your cool in that situation. This guy keeping his cool is ultimately why neither the bear nor hunter were harmed.

  • @mlee81
    @mlee81 Před 8 lety +6

    The swipe at the leg is making it pretty clear what the intentions were. This wasn't a cute cuddly little bear that wanted to cuddle. I get a kick out of some of the comments. This bear was demonstrating predatory behavior. Laxun was on the menu, and if the bear connected with the paw, this could have been an entirely different conclusion. Good shots so thanks but I'd be cool with a little bear spray or something near the end. No need for this thing to get used to getting close to people.

      No. Bear was asserting his/her rights as the property owner, so to speak. He/she was being territorial, not predatory. They will bluff to try to scare you away. They do not see us a prey, they do not see us as food. They ARE curious and they ARE territorial. =)

    Thanks for not harming the bear. That was a bluff charge. They make clicks and stomp or slap their paws when they think someone is too close to them. Unfortunately everyone is not as patient with black bears as this man. The display of a bluff charge gets a lot of them killed. They are very smart and very curious animals and notice how quickly the bear took off running after the man said "Get!" in a loud tone and made noise.

  • @Gloomshadow100
    @Gloomshadow100 Před 10 lety +44

    ha ha... this looks like aggressive behavior but it isn't. Black Bears have a sweet and docile nature, he just couldn't figure out what it was he was looking at.. he smelled something up there in that tree and couldn't figure it out.. so he climbed up there and swatted it to see what it would do. He didn't know it was a human he was looking at, the camouflage confused him. I got a bunch of them around my house, all you gotta do is say "hey how you doing" to them when you first see them and they turn and run just like he did right here. He was just trying to "knock that thing out of this tree" so he could get a better look at it. Im a hunter too, but I don't kill the bears, black bear isn't good eating anyway.. now Grizzly, that is a different story, Griz are a lot more dangerous and territorial. Anyway guys, don't kill these things, he wasn't a threat, as soon has heard that human voice he froze and then ran.. he realized he had just made a big mistake.

      a bear killed a hiker last weekend in west milford nj. 3 years ago a black bear attacked a man and his dog fended off the bear. Both the man and the dog were severely injured...They might look all docile and curious but make no mistake, they can rip you up quick. I dont hunt bears either, Im sure glad some guys do. • @MrJbarnz71

      Gloomshadow100 hmm...big dog just about ripped my buddies arm off the other day...couple months ago a hiker was killed by a bear in west milford nj and in the same town 3 years ago another hiker and his dog were ripped up pretty bad. When they fear humans they are not a threat. When idiots feed them and try to be friendly with them...well....bears are omnivores and opportunists. They will eat you...lack of respect for the deadliness of bears and the stupidity of humans feeding them and fight against hunts so that they are sooo overpolulated that they are starved and will eat anything...thats when bears kill. Bears eat more fawns every single spring than you could ever imagine. And to correct you....they are not EVERYWHERE in rural areas. Rural areas for the most part hunt them and it is very rare to see a bear. In more populated areas bordering parks with bear hunting bans is where they are EVERYWHERE.....

      Black bears are gentle. Their killers want everyone to think they are mean. That way they can get away with how evil bear killers are. My deer hunter husband, is repulsed by bear and wolf killers, he says they are repulsive liars, that get off on torturing animals that are much more human than their killers.

      Listen I agree the didn't act to aggressive he swiped to see what he was looking at but if he would not have said "GET" and showed a bit of aggression that could of got a bit worse but maybe not that's the problem with wild animals everyone thinks they know how animals act but in reality an animal can change its mind in less than a second that's why people are found dead in the woods because bear got to close or to hungry

      Gregory Hess There are less that 1 person a year killed by a bear. Black bears mainly eat bugs. That is why they have ant eater claws to tear through wood, and turn over rocks. They also eat berries, seeds and leaves. They will scavenge meat, but rarely hunt. This man studied bears for over 40 years. He found that once they trusted him, he could enter a den with cubs, collar the bear, with no tranquilizer. He teaches simple ways to show a bear you are not a threat. facebook.com/lily.the.black.bear/?fref=ts

    He was definitely checking you out to see if he should try to eat you. Scary, that looked like the beginning of a predation attempt.

    Had a couple black bears in my yard yesterday and I told them to get and they put their heads down in submission like scared dogs. It's hard to predict them though. Sometimes things piss them off too. They're super curious creatures.

    If a bear is chomping, yawning and making sounds that means it's afraid or agrivated. If a bear is quiet and stealthy that means it is in predatory mode. You are very blessed that this bear did not lunge in for a bite. Looks like it was a juvenile who hasn't been taught that people are not food/good. Best to have given yourself away to the Forrest and blasted that bear with an air horn to let him know that humans are not safe to be near.
