The fact that didn't pull anyone in, or tip the boat over.. just goes to show how gentle and intelligent they are.
"Thank you strange land fish!"
Whoami691 gg
Whoami691 Funnily enough, whales are the real landfish. They evolved to be out of water, then evolved back in there. That is why they breathe air, not water.Humans still have something known as the cold water reflex, something freedivers appreciate very much.
Jame Gumb They are not fish, get it right.
I know they are mammals. The original comment spoke of landfish, hence I said landfish.

@@luckydave328 This is what I thought as well. I believe the child was able to understand best what the whale was trying to communicate, but I am sure it could also be a combination of all their interpretations too.

I knew someone who was involved with helping a humpback whale. There was a group of people who freed the whale of a lot of fishing line. After it was freed, the whale went to each person and made eye contact with them as if to express its gratitude. What an experience for those people!
These creatures are way smarter than we give them credit for..

The sound that came out from that whale each time she was taking a breath seems to me like a mix of frustration, pain and scariness out of despair, then you guys in a team effort manage to turn all this suffering around, What else can you expect from this fascinating creature but gratitude, at last she's free and that is all what matters. Thx for doing what you do!
Yeah, she was really laboring to.breath. very slow when they arrived. I think she had given up hope, and the effort to breath was great for a hopeless creature. Their activities keep her fighting to live until she was free. Beautiful.

Breached 40 times!? I imagine the young whale like an excited toddler jumping for joy. My heart...
Nope, most likely trying to communicate with its pod.
There is commonlity in living creatuers more and more similairty as ceomcloser to twin sibling.
Its happy but its probably trying to clear its lungs from water and getting some good fresh air. Who knows how long he was trapped. He probably was low on oxygen.
All you guys who said she only did it cause she was low on oxygen. That does not explain why she followed them.
Julia Rønningsen he* wasn’t following them, he* was stuck on the net and they were holding it
''Mommy I know what she's doing. She's showing us that she's all free!'' Kids, pure emotional intelligence
Smart kid (7:18)
She's just try to rub off the rest of the net....
She's obviously elated that she's freed.
I thought she said "-showing us that she's our friend."
Of course it's somehow joy and salvation but at least the tail slapping at the end is definitly a form of communication. Whales usually communicate with each other acoustically, but also by fin-slapping the surface, particularly in the event of danger or bad weather and rough and noisy seas. _Breaching_ is suggested to be "honest signalling", signing that you are physically fit - or all free. Looks like scientists need more emotional intelligence, because the small child understands a message in a few minutes for which scientists needed decades and large amount of studies.
Sometimes this breaching/jumping out of the water was also observed right after exceptionally long dives. It could be the whale: *_"I'm back."_*
But to shame the scientists completely, this clever child is probably even right that the whale communicated with _them._
The noise of a lobtail or breach travels much less well than that of a vocal call. Since the sea isn't rough and noisy and there are no other whales around, but the whale chose this form of communication, only the humans are left, her saviors, with whom the whale wanted to "talk".
PS: In addition, it must have been very important for the whale to do so, because this breaching costs a lot of energy.
Wow. Grown up man teary-eyed watching this. Thank for your big hearts.
Best day ever! She definitely was showing them that she's been freed from those awful nets. Animals of all kinds know when they've been saved. Right place. Right time! Thanks a million.

it's fake , the whale didn't jump out of the water , it's a different video added .notice the landscape here (that the guy in orange vest is pointing at) : 6:21 , then later, notice that the water color and landscape changes as the whale gets out of the water 6:24 . also the whale was so weak i doubt it would have jumped so fast after its release

God bless? Huh? Why would your god create a place where this would happen in the first place? You realise that if these people weren’t out in the water at this exact time, and also didn’t care about helping this whale, that it would most likely have died a slow death. It’s great that these people did this thing, but to say god bless?? Are you serious?
By the way I’m taking the assumption that your god is all powerful, all knowing, all kind, and created the whole situation we are in. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

as usual.. humans think they are the center of everything.. it wasn't really showing appreciation.. they breach to communicate long distances
, probably trying to communicate with family
@@elduderino7767 As usual.. Someone always comes along and makes absolute statements on a topic that is still very under-researched.
Of course we can observe behavioural routines and come to the most probable scenario based on those results, but we should also always take into consideration how limited our knowledge is, and that the only way we can expand our understandings, is by collecting data to cross-correlate, and to use that data as an educated estimate, not a concrete fact.
I'm not saying that this whale was showing appreciation, but to assume that it doesn't have the capacity to adapt it's usual behaviour to a very unusual scenario, would be to place a brick wall around our understanding of these very mysterious creatures. Intelligent creatures that are providing more and more new and revealing information within studies that lead to scientific breakthroughs and broader understandings in general, the more time moves forward, as field experts and technology become more precise at analyzing.
The whale was most likely communicating with its pod, like you said, but my issue is with your outright denial of it having the potential to be another, far less observed, type of interaction. Especially when we've seen that whales and dolphins in particular, are capable of advanced interaction with humans and other animals, and have done so countless times, as captured on recorded footage.
Rescuing that animal was it's own reward.
That was sooooo impressive! Such an emotional moment, a deep desperation and afterwords pure joy. Thank you all for saving that baby! ❤
This just gives me chills. It’s sad that it happened in the first place, but it lets me know that there are good people out there willing to step forward and do the right thing even when there’s some risk to do it.
The intelligence of these animals is amazing to me. They know when humans are there to help and know enough to allow them to help by coming close and staying still. Then to put on a show after as a thank you just really shows their intellectual level and an understanding of a relationship between being helped and appreciation for the assistance. Truly amazing.
They don't know when humans are there to harm, which is the vast, vast majority of the time.
You really think that this whale thought “omg I have to do something to thank these people but I can’t talk so hmmmm what can I do? I know! I’ll put on a show for them! Yes that’s it! Ummmm no. That whale wasn’t able to breach because of the net and that’s is a common normal behavior for a humpback so it was doing it for its own sake because it wasn’t able to do it for who knows how long. Fucking pretentious humans always thinking ANYTHING an animal does after it gets help is solely for the human. “Oh look it’s thanking ME, look what’s it’s doing for ME cuz I helped it. So fucking arrogant.
@@mistifeyed It's actually already proven that whales and dolphins are highly intelligent.
Instead of claiming people to be arrogant, you should stop being so arrogant by thinking only humans are CAPABLE of being intelligent.
There are plenty of articles about that topic.
Here an example: us.whales.org/whales-dolphins/how-intelligent-are-whales-and-dolphins/
@@Bififress0r No one is saying that they are not intelligent. It was a young whale that began breaching shortly after being freed from a very stressful situation.
Most people do tend to ascribe human traits to animals and that is just not accurate in most cases.
However, it was wonderful seeing the whale breaching.

It's so emotional. This one and a dolphin who needed a hook taken out by divers to get that done. They managed to get it out and the dolphin clearly is thankful. You know, this is one of the things very interesting about humans. They dont care if animals are murdered inhumanely for meat, because they just buy it portioned in store. But when you see an animal in wild suffering, people are willing to risk their lives to save it, no matter what. People are good in their heart, but they are ignorant and that is what makes us the worst. We have the intelligence to make the world better, yet we only make it worse because of our ignorancy.
@@Tesoro1996 i completely understand your point even though i am not veg(an)...i have never asked a vegan this question and dont mean to offend whether or not you are, but what do vegans think about the animals killing other animals for food (the food chain) which we are apart of...is it just that we overdo it so badly by butchering so manu innocent animals or are we not considered to be apart of the chain in vegans eyes and therefore should never eat meat
@@danecker8895 I am not vegan either, I just understand their point. I'm not saying I am any better than other carnivores, I just know where problem lies. It's not in people eating meat, its because of mass meat productions that treat animals inhumanely for maximum efficiency. We could do better than that. Meat doesn't have to be our everyday meal. I think, if we had less meat to buy, we would be forced to eat more vegetables and meatless meals, which would eventually improve our health and decrease overweight. I see all the points vegans do, but it won't make me stop eating meat.
@@danecker8895 and to answer your question, we, of course, are part of the food chain. We are on top of it because of our intelligence and technology. Agreed. I've watched it three times and its always just as rewarding to watch. What amazing humanity. We need to see more wholesome, uplifting stuff on the internet.
Yay Mr Wholesome! 😁 Agreed. We need it!
Your hearts are made of gold, this act of humanity moved me to tears ❤😢
What a memory you and the little one will have. AND an awesome recording !!
BRAVO ❤
The whale is clearly having an experience of utter relief and joy. An animal with an immense depth of inner experience.
Yet people still often view animals as somehow... "not conscious". In religious terms people say they have no soul. Soul meaning personhood essentially. As in, they see, hear, feel, love, etc. More than just words. The only way I can truly describe the notion in accuracy is to say they are people or they have a soul. Even that is lacking, you just have to look them in the face and try to sense what they are feeling and thinking, then you can see the depth of their humanity. Deeper than most humans I come across--literally.
Most of us go about our normal lives unconscious of the unspoken world of communication that exists between all life. We're so used to relying on speech that we ignore what's being communicated in the eyes, face, etc. It's been a while since I've been to a zoo or anything of the sort but I do remember going up to the dolphin tanks with the glass looking in and coming face to face with them. It's a damn near shocking reminder of what that animal truly is.
It looks at us and it thinks things of depth and communicates things of depth to us through physical gestures. There was a person in that tank--perhaps of even greater intelligence if you regard it's ability to read situations, emotions, body posture, etc. Through this means these animals collect a lot of information about what is going on.
That whale felt so lucky to have those people come across him and free him. It's like he couldn't believe that he was saved.
They go through life without civilization, education, complex verbal language. They learn through watching, imitating. They read faces, read eyes. They survive in the wild and learn many many things about the world around them. Learning what's dangerous and what's not. If you take a seal for example they will run at the site of an orca but approach humans without fear--they learn this through past experience.
If you consider their lack of opposable thumbs, civilization, and formal education--they demonstrate "common sense" intelligence that surpasses any human. Literally. Their natural intelligence (ability to read situations and people through posture and expression; the sorts of things learned through experience) surpasses humans by far. As far as our "book smarts" surpasses theirs.
At the end of the day, you can't simply tell a person the depth of an animal's character. It can only be realized... no point in trying to explain it I guess.
Some things there are no words for. I guess I fail.
Don't write that long I read it but if you express your feelings And it's to long Peeps won't read
Neatly put. I so agree.
They're more aware of us than we think. I was out on a little tiny kayak in Redondo Beach and I accidentally paddled right out into a group of humpback whales. I think it was a mother and her calf. I didn't see them breach until I got too close. It was like they started breaching when I get near. I didn't want to panic or hit one with a paddle on accident so I just sat there. They were doing incredible jumps and tail slaps but when they started getting close to me they stopped. One of their belly flops would easily kill me but they didn't do it too close to me. The mother breached right up alongside me and I got to touch her rubbery back. I started to paddle back but they actually followed me. Or it seems like they did cause they were still doing their show from the same distance. I got another breach right up alongside me and I saw the tail go up but thankfully it didn't slap or else that might have hurt. I paddled back towards the shore and they swam off. BUT I would not recommend doing what I did. They might be peaceful creatures but they're so massive it's easy for them to accidentally hurt you. I felt like a tiny ant in comparison to their size that close up.
People who do amazing acts like this deserve medals, absolutely fantastic people
She Is So Happy- Thankyou God Bless You 😇😇😇
The true definition of hero…. He knew he could die at anytime but put the animals’s life before his own. You, sir, are an inspiration. If everyone were more like you, this world would be the place to be
losing your life … to find it!
You ... can be more like him. Foster parents are desperately needed. Just call, just to ask, what that would involve.
@@veramae4098 I would love to. Who do I call?
I am literally CRYING over seeing her joy at being free. No music, no effects, NOTHING but her joy and gratitude moves me to tears ❤️❤️❤️
Exactly such a beautiful video with amazing people
I think joy certainly was involved. But it’s also possible the freed whale was breaching and slapping the water in an effort to communicate with fellow whales that may have swum on during her time of entrapment in the net.
Absolutely Fantastic; Job well done! Many thanks and appreciation to the rescues👍
Whales are a beautiful, extremely sensitive and intelligent sea going mammalian. We humans owe them the great respect.❤ Considering our past: "Whaling"😡
@@kepckatherinec805 so true... and so sad... to feel left behind
LMAO you just did the meme
Wonderful people helping a young humpback.
Pictures gorgeous.🐋❤❤❤
I am crying from happiness. Thank you to this group of people for their compassion for this beautiful animal. 😂😂😂😂
I think the 747 people that down voted this video expected the whale to surface and thank the rescuers personally in English.
They probably work for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service...
Thank you!
OWO hai! im fan!
hello
Thank you for sharing this on daily dose!!

HAPPINESS YES THE WHALE SHOWED SIMPLY PROFOUND HAPPINESS AND GRATITUDE !!! GOD BLESS EVERYONES SOUL ON THE BOAT ON SAVING THIS ALMIGHTY BEAUTIFUL WHALE THANK YOU 🙏 ❤❤❤❤
Superstitious graffiti nonsense
how arrogant to think animals have no feelings.....
thank you for sharing this heartbreaking video with happy end, you are a real hero!!
of course they have feelings. after having 2 dogs live complete lives in my life time, i know that they have personalities and moods just like humans do.
Yea , my dog turns into a complete bitch after i pick him up from the pet hotel everytime
humans are animals, and they don't seem to have any true feelings
Kate Annett Well , some do
Kate Annett You are one of those people, huh? 😑
This got to me, especially what the little girl said and the whale showing her gratitude/thanks. 😭😭😭 Thanks for posting, and to the people who saved that beautiful whale. Protect animals that are going extinct because of neglectful/greedy humans.
Caribbean Queen1978 We should protect all animals.
@Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum - what? Animals ARE becoming/going extinct because of climate change/global warming! Fact. Reality. Truth.
@Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum - Did you not see/hear about animals like koala bears, in Australia, that got severe burn injuries and dehydration because of fires due to climate change/global warming? One of the koalas *DIED* from *bush fires.* Those poor, defenseless, helpless animals. That breaks my heart, and you have the dammed audacity to say *"Salt, take a few grains"!* What a heartless, ignorant, and mindless thing to say. Shame on you!!!! *Edit:* It also warmed my heart to see SOME Australians protecting and or (trying to) save/saving said koalas and that also made me tear up. A corrupt, Australian politician was ran off by *the people* about their neighborhood being/getting burned by climate change/global warming.
Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum what about animals that *have* gone extinct? Do they not count?
This video is and anthem for freedom and trust and the best Valentine ever!!! What a glorious thing to do. I would have too! I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the moment. I feel love and hope for humanity in seeing this. Your family is beautiful.. Together you all took action, & knew what you had to do.....the ultimate risk because the stakes were too high. Thank you beyond words for saving Valentina
What a great story. You were its savior. God bless you.

Sure...! And they helped that whale whith only a little knife and aboard a little boat... Respect!
And they had a child on the boat, too. It's a beautiful thing to see parents teaching their children to be kind to the creatures that share our planet.
Not all superheroes wear capes...... some are rocking little red speedos. Legendary.
Vous l'avez sauvée !! Merci !! C'est magnifique, elle vous remercie par ses sauts de joie. Bravo vous êtes formidables 🥰
I dont understand how people could watch this and dislike it. Atleast on principal of what these people did for this whale. Great job on helping this whale.
maybe the dislikes were for the ones who put the net there??
SunGear I never thought about it like that, but good point. I hope that's what they mean!

Some people are probably upset that they chose to put their child in danger to save a whale.
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
It is very beautiful to see when human connects with animals. The whale was very happy so it put up a show for you guys. Thank God for good people in this world!

I was afraid some of the net was left on the tail, but the tail slaps showed it was all free. What a relief. What a gorgeous creature.
