20 Min Standing Abs Workout & 15 Min Stretch | Exercises for Seniors & Beginners

- Welcome to a walking workout that is focused on building stronger abs. With working out hard the last 3 days, today's workout has been designed to slow the pace down a little bit, focus on the abs and spend time stretching out the muscles that got used through the past 3 days. Without proper stretching, injuries can happen and that is the last thing anyone wants. We'll spend 20 minutes doing a mixture of cardio exercises and standing ab strengthening exercises and then we'll follow a thorough stretching program. Please take the time (only 15 minutes today!) to follow the stretches, slow down and breathe, and be thankful for what your body can do for you.
As always, this is low impact. Please use your judgment on when to modify exercises. If you feel a move isn't good for you, please change the exercise to a move that is more suitable for you.

This was wonderful. A great combo of light cardio with Abs. The stretching at the end was magical. I think I am going to the stretching part of this video every night before bed. THANKS

How did I miss this one? The stretching part was great. Just what I needed today. Watching TV last night and I realized I was tensing my shoulders and neck. I tried to focus on relaxing but we were watching the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol”. It was excellent but tense. Have a good one Jules.
I do find relaxing the shoulders is something we all have to remind ourselves to do more often.

Such a timely reminder of the importance of stretching. After a weekend of planting (bending, digging, squatting), this was the perfect complement: core/abs and those delicious stretches. Loved the ending quote. I must have had a lot of smiles!!!

Please note! I will be putting up DAY 5 on Sunday. I wanted to put up as many as I could manage for the New Year but Day 1-4 was all my schedule could manage. I am back to work now after the holidays. The four days will give you a great overall workout so you can redo the set until a new one is released. Have a wonderful week!

Thanks Jill, I'm happy to read you come back to my workouts:) I work full-time as a Recreation Therapist with seniors. I work on music playlists for YT some evenings when my kids are in bed and create the workouts on the weekends. I used to have a personal training business, too, but I stopped that when my kids came along. Only so much I can manage! I enjoy doing the videos and love how people are benefitting from them.

Aw, that is kind of you to be concerned! I am totally okay. I am just back at work again after having some time off after Christmas. I couldn’t manage to create anymore workouts right away. The next one will be up on Sunday. I work full-time so YT is something I work in in the evenings and on weekends. I put a comment up under day 4 to let people know when to expect the next workout but I know a lot of people don’t always see the comment. You can definitely do days 1-4 again until the next one comes out. See you on Sunday:)
Hi Jules! That was so good. It was hard but really good. I loved the stretches as I am so tight in many parts of my body. My back and shoulders particularly give me lots of problems. I have left many a physio shaking their head at how limited my movement is. Have also been meaning to say I love the new countdown clock and the exercise prompts. They are great. Think I will try to do these stretches every day. I really need to improve my flexibility as I scream towards 57! Thanks again for an awesome workout.
I hear you in regards to the lack of flexibility as we get older. I notice a difference in myself as well over the last few years. Like you, I am also aiming to stretch daily. It really does make a difference if we do it daily and if we start now, our bodies will thank us as we get into our 70's, 80's and beyond! Most injuries happen due to lack of flexibility.

Hey Jules.....the class was great, I have a little problem doing the stand up abs, my hip flexors don't work as good but I am determined to continue working on them. I like knowing the number of steps in the classes also. Now I am going to do my walk and I will come back later for another class....you take care and God Bless....Anne
Ah, yes, the hip flexors. If you start to feel it in the hip flexors too much, just lift your knee a little bit. Also, focusing on stretching them out if you feel soreness is important, too (sit on a chair with one leg going back to stretch out that area). Or, standing with one leg forward and pressing one leg back will also provide your hip flexors with a good stretch.

Yes, it is amazing how good stretching feels...it also prevents injuries so it's definitely a beneficial thing to do. I am trying to include it after each workout now so hopefully with the stretching starting to be in newer videos, you will stick around for it:)
I don't think there's much doubt that I'll be sticking around. You have me hooked on this thing called exercise! But I do look forward to more stretching.

Since I'm not a fan of ab workouts (but I know I need it) it was nice to be able to dance between them, made for a much more pleasant workout. I really liked having the stretching at the end too, something I'm beginning to love and try to do every day. Thanks again for making these workouts for us and keeping us motivated.

This workout is a great for your AB’s. I feel if you practiced doing it on a regular basis, you would see improvement!!
Yes, absolutely!
Just a suggestion: the "ping" could be a lower sound. Seniors tend to lose the upper range of hearing first, so they might have a hard time hearing that high pitched sound. Thanks for a great workout and the stretches really felt good!

Thank you for this video. The chimes during the stretches are helpful, but some chimes are missing around 2:45 from the end, after chin to chest.
I actually chose not to put some in since I felt during those stretches viewers would be looking at the video. I didn't want the chimes to be too distracting or annoying if they weren't needed.

I exercise every day but admittedly don't stretch nearly enough. You talked me into it. :) It felt so good and the music was relaxing, just what I needed after a chaotic shift at work.

My doctor said I need more supportive shoes and yours are so cute! What kind of shoes are you wearing in this video?
The ones in this video are Pumas. Any quality running shoe will do but I find the best for support are New Balance, Nike, Adidas, Saucony, Under Armour, ASICS, just to name a few:). They all fit differently so you have to go with what fits you well.
