  • Marty at his emotional best singing with great sincerity this moving song. I don't know who recorded the song previously, so maybe someone out there can give some information about it's origin.
    *I'm reliably informed by Herman from the Netherlands that this is an old Jimmie Davis song that dates from 1942.
    Thanks for that Herman.

    I grew up listening to Marty Robbins from my pre teen years, No matter how I felt, listening to Marty sing would always cheer me up, Saw him in concert once, right after he hit the wall and busted his tail bone in a NASCAR race, I always called him Old Golden Throat, still my all time favorite country singer. A class act all the way. RIP Marty, you are sorely missed,.

    I had an old rather scuffed 45 record of Eddy Arnold singing this song some years back that I have searched for to replace after loosing it and my whole life after a ravaging house fire that robbed me of everything I treasured so in this world. I know they were just 'things', but I miss the the life I had before that terrible day...

    I first heard the song many, many years ago by Wilf Carter. And I believe it was written by Jimmie Davis, the gentleman who wrote You Are My Sunshine. But always been one of my favorite songs for as long as I can remember.

    I believe there was a Japanese Country singer in the 60's called Eddie Fukano who appeared in Marty's movie 'From Nashville With Music.'
    Unfortunately, his appearance was cut out of the movie for some reason.

    You are right, we've been looking for a copy of the material that was cut as well. Eddy Fukano's album was Eastside West. Also looking for Hee Haw & other tv episodes he may have been in.

    It is my pleasure to pass on the little information I know about Marty Robbins and his longest playing pedal steel player. What has always astonishes me is that not very many pedal steel players ever seem to acknowledge the tremendous input Bill Johnson gave on the Marty Robbins show. Perhaps someone knows where he went after leaving Marty's band. At any rate, it is highly instructive to watch his technique, from which I have yet a great deal to learn.

    Wonderful song tarquin45! Thank you so much for the post!
    Does anyone have any idea where I could find the chords for this song? I can't even find the lyrics..... Pout, pout... :-)
    Thanks again

  • @steelguitartim
    @steelguitartim Před 14 lety

    Dear QWZXM,
    Sometimes the title of a song, if it is redolent of religious connotations, makes listeners steer clear of it.. The close ups of Bill Johnston on steel and the nice use of pedals B and C encouraged me to give it a bash. as usual, the band's balance is impeccable, something which has sadly been lost today or conferred to automatic settings. Bill Johnston's close ups opened up a whole new ball game for decyphering and transcribing.
    Thanks so much for your encouraging comment.
    TIM.

  • @steelguitartim
    @steelguitartim Před 15 lety

    The terrifically sensitive and imaginative steel player here is Bill Johnson, who passed away in March of this year. Watch how he uses the B and C pedal when he goes into the A chord on the 17th fret and also on E at the twelfth fret. A superb player. Tim.

    @buddyzroadie / Hey, Buddy, did you ever find the chords and lyrics to this song? I have the song posted on my channel. I was singing from memory, so some of the words are different from Marty's. Give it a listen. If you still want the words, I could try to post them and try to put in the chords, too.

  • @cariboubill
    @cariboubill Před 12 lety +2

    @buddyzroadie / Buddy I just posted the words and chords on my channel. You can find them under my post of the song. You may want to correct the words according to the version that Marty sang, If you want to transpose to the key of G
    C=G,C7=G7, F=C, G7=D7. Please let me know if this works out for you. It's kind of an experiment on my part

    Nice song in a secular sense, but wrong in a theological sense. We are all sinners, Christ does indeed listen to and answer our prayers (though obviously not always the way we want).
