Don't forget to give me your suggestion for another song for a reaction and analysis video. Thanks for watching!
PTX and for King and Country are my two favorite groups. Like PTX, fK&C has a huge catalog - try Little Drummer Boy from the CMA fest of 2019 - live! Drums!
I love Mitch’s voice in this but hallelujah will always be my favorite by them.
I've heard that Brian May put this out on his social media with the single word "enjoy." The starry sky was homage to Dr. May as an astrophysicist.
That’s pretty neat info Patricia! Thanks for sharing!
I've got Brian's post saved on my Facebook but the link won't work here, keeps disappearing after I post it.
@@alhasse6576 I would love to see it!!😎
@@lexymich3647 I would post it if it wouldn't delete itself. CZcams apparently doesn't like Facebook links. It's dated 8 Feb 2019 on Brian May's Facebook page, obviously not the fist time he posted it.
And the shooting stars in same sequence was homage to all 4 origin members of Queen - Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon
Ive seen a live performance at a concert…Mitch does not need the megaphone, it’s only a prop. They are all amazingly talented and joy to experience.
Here is the link to a live performance of the song czcams.com/video/j4MoDve7k2o/video.html
I've also seem them live. It didn't sound the same to me. Still great but because of editing or an actual megaphone their is a distortion in this studio version that I didn't quite here when I saw them live. I'd also like to ad that the audio quality of the concert was not great. Singing was excellent.
Thanks Annie!
@@eilrobichaud thanks for the link. Similar to my experience. Great vocals but you can definitely hear the difference.
He can but the megaphone does add that stringy guitar sound more realistic.
The couch is kind of symbolic. You'll see them sitting on couches in a lot of their works.
In their earliest days, after winning the Sing Off competition, the promised "recording contract" flung them off after one ep saying there was no audience for au capella and they were left blinking in the street.
They scrounged up what they could and marketed themselves online without a dime of income except what subscribers could offer so there were no fancy videos, just the five of them sitting and singing in thanks to whatever friend would loan them a couch to sit on. Once, assuming they were out of tolerant friends, they were sitting on someone's front steps.
It worked. As they gained in popularity they kept the image, just five people sitting on a couch, nothing more. No instruments, no fancy machinery, no expensive chicanery. Now, ten years in, they fill stadiums on international concerts. So much for "No audience for au capella"! But the couch still crops up again and again. I think it's funny.
Wow that ms a great background story Blue! Thanks for sharing that !
Actually, the original label dropped them a week after they moved to California to start their careers. They did not make an EP with the label that orignially signed them after they won The Sing Off. That was the only time they were dropped by a label. They had apartments near each other and the guys were roommates - Scott and Mitch also Kevin and Avi. Kirstie had her own apartment. Don't forget, they also won a cash prize for winning the show.
Yes. And in this video the couch was promoted from 'supporting cast' to co-star. I saw them on tour in 2019 and at one point they bring a couch on stage for a throwback medley of some of the earlier video releases. Much fun.
@@raymondblanton9749 How fun. They'll always be known for just sitting and singing, whether on a couch, mismatched chairs, colored blocks or somewhere. All that harmony and sound can truly be found in five people just singing.
As a band teacher, you’ll really appreciate Kevin’s solo cover of Down.
Absolutely agree with this suggestion, that cover is so good
Absolutely! Kevin does an amazing job with that song. He's so crazy talented!
I agree, you have absolutely to check out Kevins cover of Down. Its AMAZING!
They start you off safe and sound, at home on the couch... Take you on an incredible journey... Then they bring you home again, safe and sound, on the couch.
That’s a great way to out it ImFrelled.
Kevin was harmonizing with Mitch on the last line, but he wasn’t the lead. He also stopped to make the wind sound.
Listen again with headphones (just for yourself). They paid homage to the original by going mono in the beginning, the same way the original does, and as they usually do, they use panning in their production to move the different voices around the mix. Unless you have surround sound, things like that get lost.
Avi makes the wind sound, not Kevin
@@jlelliotton Avi slides from one note to a lower note (easily heard on headphones) when the wind sound is made by Kevin.
I do have a nice audio setup. I love audio since I am a music person. But I forgot to out the AirPods in for this one. I’ll have to go back and listen for that. I would have enjoyed hearing that happening in the headphones. So cool when they do that. Thanks for sharing that.
@@bobcieslinski I hear ya…I’ve got a great audio setup in my car and their music sounds great, but PTX’s songs always hit differently in headphones.
Yeah I was caught by surprise with that as I often use just one bud while doing chores so I can listen out for kids. Suddenly there was no sound then I heard the next line so I had to put in my other bud and go back to experience it.
You really should be wearing headphones to get the best of PTX
Yep somehow I forgot on this one Jim. It happens and you are right. Something gets lost.
Kevin Olusola (KO) is an amazing tenor also, and does much more than beatbox. He has a great solo in “Mary did you know”.
I believe Kevin was singing harmony with Mitch at the end.
This is such a great rendition of this song. Honors the original, but has the accapella flavor.
Thanks for thr info Ellen! It is great!
I think "Kevin" and "awesome" surely belong in the same sentence. There is a behind the scenes video for this one that is really fun to watch.
I’ll have to look for it Frederic, thanks!
Kevin falling off the couch!! 🤣
Love your reactions guy, my only suggestion would be to wear headphones. There are a lot of nuances you miss without them. Keep up the great work. I would suggest “Imagine” or “ “Mad World”.🎶🎶💕💕🦋
I agree. The sound bounces from one speaker/headphone to another.
Thanks Rebecca for thr info and suggestion. I normally do but forgot on this one. Bad one to forget on but it was still amazing.
Have to wear good headphones! I appreciated them before I did but after…wow!
Kevin sings in "Mary, Did you know."
Sound of Silence is one of their great ones; so is "The Prayer"
Please please please use headphones to get the true Pentatonix experience. You are missing so much!
I normally do but forgot somehow on this one. I’ll remember next time.
Actually I don't think it's Kevin singing lead at the end ; it's still Mitch, and Kevin is filling in one of the inner harmonies as he often does when percussion is not required. Suggestions for more Pentatonix -- Cheerleader, Gold, God Only Knows, Can't Help Falling in Love
Thanks for the info Ruth! I will check out those suggestions!
You know what Ruth? You think you’re right!!?? Well THAT, miss missy, is because…. You absolutely are. Indeed, Mitch sings lead the whole way through. Kevin (as you have already explained) is joining background vocals. 👍🏽
I think you should look again Ruth. That is definitely Kevin singing the last line. Mitch's mouth isn't moving when Kevin sings "any way the wind blows."
Yes for these.... but please, if you react to Gold, please listen to as much as you can, of the original - just to see the Magic of Mitch... and the rest of course, but Mitch, sigh.
@@carolscott1686 Yes, Kevin is singing DURING the last line, but not as the main lead. Listen closely, Mitch is still singing the lead melody. Kevin is singing a subdued harmony. If you watch closely, Mitch IS ABSOLUTELY mouthing the words as well.
This is a masterpiece, Pentaholics joke that PTX doesn't do covers they do upgrades. But check out Kevin's solo stuff like his KOver of Down it will knock you out. Kevin is so amazingly multi-talented the fact that he has a beautiful voice is often overlooked.
Thanks A Risden for thr info and suggestions!
PXT, Home Free and VoicePlay... If they had been around 20 years before, we would not be talking about acappella as old people music.
I imagine he'd love when Kevin mixes in his excellent cello skills to PTX too. A real multi-talented guy.
I think they do killer tributes. A lot of artists, I just don’t appreciate a cover for a great song I know. PTX though….I just appreciate the song and their talent even more.
@@erickyoung8331 loved radioactive with his cello as he does the beatboxing plus Lindsay Stirling!
I love their cover of Can You Feel the Love Tonight
They are epic. Their cover of "Mad World" is astonishing.
I just love watching people react to their songs for the first time. Thanks for the reaction.
They absolutely nailed this one. Let's be fair. They had to if they were going to perform one of the most iconic songs in all of rock music. I'm not their biggest fan, but this one was brilliant.
If you like Pentatonix you should check out Home Free accapella group man constant sorrow . Or ring of fire which avi was part of as guest
Thanks for thr suggestions Roxanne ! I will check it out.
I really enjoyed watching you discover this treasure, since you understand the complexities of what creating it entailed. I truly appreciate all that they did to honor the brilliance of the original while PTXing the hell out of it. I've never seen them live, but I've seen a video of this from one of their concerts. It's all right there in those five remarkable people, and they can duplicate it beautifully on stage. They blow my mind all the damn time. I think you'd dig "Gold" "Havana" "New Rules" and "Mad World." You might also enjoy Superfruit (just Mitch & Scott) covering "Defying Gravity." Who am I kidding? It's all good - just keep going.
Just listen to the original of "Gold" first so you know how much electronic music will be done by voices alone by PTX! They will amaze you! Maybe a double reaction! 💖 👍
Thanks for all of the great info and suggestions Gina! Also thanks for the kind words.
Great reaction!
The sheer amount of "counting" required of each of them to pull off such a technically difficult song (high notes, low notes and tempo changes) had to be astounding! Wow!!!
Thanks talyn for the kind words and yes totally amazing.
I think maybe Kevin was the wind noise at the end and Avi was the wind in the beginning?
As a teacher, I think you'd like watching their journey as they formed the group and developed their sound thru the SingOff competition. There are 12 performances and I'd suggest watching them with the judges' comments so you can hear some of the advice they were getting. They certainly took it to heart. For those of us who've seen it, we all have favorite performances when we started to recognize "their sound" as they grew up right before our eyes. It's rare that you get to go on such a personal journey with an artist and this may be part of why their fan base is so loyal; it was like we knew them.
Thanks for the great info Wendi! I’ll put those sing off videos in the list. Thanks!
I love how respectful they were to the original and obviously this is paying homage. Yet they still made it unique and awesome !
That whole left ear right ear transition gives me chills every time.
Kevin and Matt (Avi’s replacement) sing in the groups version of ‘Amazing Grace’.
To see Kevin play his cello, check out ‘Over the River’
Thanks for thr great info and suggestions eilrobichaud.
And now, Imagine (John Lennon) is not to be missed.
Thanks for thr suggestion Ginger !
You are the only reactor that mentioned the flashlights. I love what they did with them. The trade off between Kirstie and Scott and then the cascade of the lights. I have to listen to you more
Thanks Kathi for the kinds words! I really thought that was a cool effect.
The couch is a reference to their own early days. All of their first videos were filmed with them on that couch in the seating arrangement you see here. They they go on this grand journey on the "magical" couch and ultimately return back.
Thanks for thr info Joe!
I'd recommend their cover of can you feel the love tonight, and their originals cant sleep love and coffee in bed.
Thanks Elizabeth!
AND now that I saw you react to Kevin Singing, I have to suggest you react to Pentatonix cover of Imagine, you get more chance to hear Kevin sing. As for their Message I will leave that to surprise you.
Thanks for the suggestion Barak!
That was actually Mitch singing the last line. But Kevin does sing in several songs: Mary did you know, Little Drummer Boy, imagine, Michael Jackson Medley, Evergreen….. 😁
Thanks for thr info Lynn2574
This group blows my mind with everything they put out. I have been following them for a few years now, i was also lucky enough to see them live at a concert in New Hampshire. Have you seen their cover of THE PRAYER. If not i highly suggest you watch it. Liked the looks on your face to what you were hearing and seeing lol
I thought I remembered seeing him do it and I was right, wanted to drop the link, you don't have to wait :D czcams.com/video/3GjnrBMlhUQ/video.html
Thanks Travis and man are you lucky to have seen them. I’m hoping they come around to my neck of the woods so I can go see them.
PTX simply flawless as usual. To see kevin with some vocals check out Mary did you know...Amazing Grace or Imagine. I also suggest 90's dance medley...Sound of Silence ... Mad World or Can you feel the love tonight. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Hey Mark thanks for thr suggestions and you stay safe too!
They kept it simple and didn't stray far from the original but still made it theirs... and paid homage to Queen...
For sure Marable!
Bob, thanks for this amazing reaction! You’re right… they always make something sound better than you thought it could! Here’s some more suggestions for you to check out next, if you’re interested. We Pentaholics are a supportive and loyal bunch, and LOVE new reactors!
An absolute MUST: “Imagine”, John Lennon cover. Bring the tissues!
Also, “The Prayer”, Celine Dion and Andrea Boccelli cover. This is suspected to be their next Grammy winner. It’s gorgeous!
PTX original song: “Sing!” This is a high energy, awesome song! Scott has that raspy, rock sound to his voice in it too, that I just love. It features clips from fans, CZcamsrs, and celebs who are fans and is one of my favorite songs and videos of theirs!
Incredible CAN’T MISS collab: “The Wizard of Aaahs” (Todrick Hall featuring PTX). This is the story of the Wizard of Oz told in a medley of pop songs. Everything about it is FLAWLESS!
Newer songs with Matt (the newer bass since 2017): “New Rules x Are You That Somebody” (Dua Lipa x Aaliyah cover) that really features Matt and Kevin killing it! Also “Havana” (Camila Cabello cover) is fantastic!
Older (with Avi, original bass) slower tempo: “Gold” (Kiiara cover) I recommend listening to the first 15-20 seconds of hers first. Then just sit back, relax, and prepare to be AWED!
Take what you want and leave the rest, but I thought I’d throw out some of my favorites! Can’t wait to hear the next reaction! 💛xo
Thanks for thr kind words and great info and suggestions Heidi!
I admit I've been looking for another PTX video of yours for days! I suggest Can't Hold Us (they can rap), Imagine (another great interpretation of a classic, grab your tissues), and Havana (just the sheer amount of swagger and cool the exude in that, OH my goodness). I also suggest that you geek out with us by listening to Kiiara's song 'Gold' and then (ONLY THEN, listen to hers first PLEASE) check out PTX's version. It's some of the best example of musicians at the top of their game being in sync and using dynamic range to wow us. That one just has them on the couch and it's too short, I adore it.
Thanks for thr info Darsynia! Make sure to subscribe so you can find them easily.
Kevin was singing, but in the background, that was Mitch you really were hearing. This is more than a cover, it was an homage. They left some Easter eggs all through this. The "couch" in the room is paying honor to their career beginning where they set up on a couch to record their CZcams music videos. If you listen to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and compare the two you will realize just how close Avi Kaplan was to John Deacon's actual bass playing, same with Kevin's "drums" vs. Roger Taylor, not to mention their wonderful vocal rendition of Freddie's piano playing from the beginning. The couch driving down the road is an homage to "Wayne's World" who brought Bohemian back into the public consciousness for another round of topping the charts. The pan up to the "sky" is an homage to Dr. Brian May's Astronomy work/passion, the four "shooting stars" the four Queen members. This did get the official Brian May seal of approval when they released it. He did link to it on his official website to give it a nice bump in viewership.
Thanks for the great info Pat!
I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but a look at their beginnings on the 3rd season of The Sing-Off is well worth it, about a dozen or so performances. All of them are on CZcams.
Thanks Al I’ll look for those.
Their voices are just perfect for a song like this [insert ANY song] ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh great, a band teacher that gets all excited with no band. Well, that is Pentatonix for you. Have not checked out Wizzard of Ahhhs yet??? Great reaction. 😁😁😎
Thanks Richard! I may be a band teacher but I literally will listen to and appreciate all music.👍😁
Hope this means that you will do a full trip down the rabbit hole through all 185+ songs, every single one a winner! Loved your reaction and comments.
Thanks David! I’m going to go far but it will take awhile. So much music so many groups to check out. Thanks for the kind words too!
People always tell PTX reactors to wear headphones so I thought I'd pass that along. Love you reactions.
Thanks Sandi! I normally do but forgot in this one. Hey it happens.
@@bobcieslinski Thanks for your reply. Please keep reacting to PTX and Superfruit. Together there are probably over 300 videos which should keep you busy for quite a while!
The couch is a throwback to their beginning. In their early career they recorded their You Tube videos with them sitting on a couch sharing 1 or 2 mics. As someone else said, Brian May shared this video with “Enjoy” to his social media accounts and the night sky was used as an ode to him. They are a very talented group who have only improved with age & experience. I have never been disappointed by any performance of theirs.
Enjoyed your breakdown & analysis. PS: yes, Kevin has a lovely tenor voice. He sings in Imagine, Mary Did You Know and Amazing Grace along with a few others
Thanks for the awesome info Donna!
Kevin has small parts singing in a few of their videos..Amazing Grace ,Imagine & Mary did you know just to name a few but if you really want to check him out he has some incredible solo videos...he does what's called cello boxing (playing the cello & beat boxing at the same time) so check out his cover of Down by Marion Hill & another of his called Renegade...as a music teacher you will be really impressed...oh yeah & he also plays the saxophone
Wow and sax too! Thanks for the info Steve!
Kevin, along with playing saxophone, and being the person to create cello boxing. He was also pre med at Yale. His talent is boundless. You really need to check out some of his solo music, especially his rendition of Down. With PTX you have to listen to Mary Did You Know, Kevin sings there.
They’re absolutely amazing! You should listen to this with headphones! Changes the entire experience! (Preferably over the ear headphones) I mean WOW!
Yep you are right and I have headphones now. Check out my newer videos.
Oh great! I bet that’s a welcome change
@@anitasmith7764 sure is.
The video is symbolic of their journey as a group as this was the last video they made with Avi. After their Sing Off win they would make You Tube videos sitting on their couch and singing covers of songs building up a following. Avi "had to go and leave us all behind" it was the perfect song for his last song with the group.
Definitely need headphones with this one. They play with left and right sounds ❤️
The falling down scene is the history of this group. Kirstin, Mitch and Scott have known each other for decades now.
8:40 I don't normally comment on these kinds of videos, but your describing this as a "celebration" is absolutely the right descriptor for this cover! The first time I saw it, I instantly thought of Cast Parties back during my musical theater days: they all are on/around a couch in a living room, but they're also being transported through shared performance and play to an entirely different world. It's an amazing thing to witness!
Thanks Kilo!
Headphones!!!
He may not need them. I have headphones and a fairly expensive sound system in my house. Pretty much all sounds the same on both.
Yep forgot to out them on for this one. It happens. I’ll get it next time. Thanks Stephen.
I cannot count the number of times that I've watched this video of BR and I've never noticed that it was Kevin finishing it off. Thnx for noticing and pointing that out.
This was the first song I heard by these guys. Unbelievable! All without instruments! After hearing this, I became a huge fan and introduced many people who were also blown away. I love this original group. The members have changed, and they're phenomenal still, but I love the original members the best.
Hi Tammy! After doing several of their videos, I’m hooked. They are amazing and so talented.
watch kevin doing " DOWN " . simply amazing
You will thoroughly enjoy Avi's solo music. His most watched is Change on the Rise, his latest 2 releases are First Place I Go and All is Well featuring Joy Williams. A few other specials are Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair with Peter Hollens and his cover of House of the Rising Sun.
Thanks Heather!
One of my favorite songs … and favorite Kevin beats is in the song “Come Along”.
Carol of the bells, Deck the hall and 12 days of Christmas are all insane! You won't be disappointed if you make a reaction to them.
That was not Kevin at the end. It was still Mitch. Thanks for reacting and sharing your analysis.
Thanks for the info on that Mavis!
If you want your mind blown, check out Kevin's version of Down. He has perfect pitch and is a musical genius.
Thanks for thr info Rick. I didn’t know that about him.
Please wear headphones! It’s makes a massive difference 🏴
Yep I normally do but forgot for this one Stella02.
Nearly everything, if not everything, they do has purpose and meaning. In the beginning of their CZcams career, they did a lot of videos with them sitting on a couch. The couch was a nod to that, with the wall opening up as they became known to the world and things started to take off, thus the couch moving, notoriety sky rockets, but they always remember where they started, back to the couch, to humble beginnings and their fans. It is not just their incredible individual and collective talents, but their passion for their fans that endears us to them.
Thanks for the great info and I love your name ShirleyUJest7.
Ten to the Pentatonix level - I love it!
I don't know if anyone else has recommended these but The Evolution of Music, Imagine, The Sound of Silence, and Mad World are some of my favorites
Sounds good thanks Shayla! I will add them to the list.
There are quite a few videos where Kevin sings…Imagine, Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace, SING and a few others. He also has his own channel where he sings and plays his cello (while beatboxing).
Thanks for the info Michelle!
You'll enjoy even more with headphones!!
If you want to hear more of Kevin's gorgeous voice, try his solo work DOWN and the songs RUN TO YOU and TAKE MY HEART WITH YOU!
Thanks for thr suggestion Doug!
To me this is their love letter to Avi and the original PTX lineup, a fitting end to Avi's time in the group. And yeah, absolutely brilliant.
Okay, I've watched this a thousand times and never realized that Kevin finished the song!🤯
The fact this video was made at time pressure. It had to be done in 10 hours or so. It was shot while it was dark. In the making of, Scott said at one point they only had 1.5 hours night time left but they had only a half of the song done. And I subscribed to you. Love your video's of Pentatonix
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole! I really enjoy your reactions. Please continue to sprinkle in PTX reactions.
There are so many great covers, and original songs by them. Keeping the the vein of great harmonies and arrangements try Mad World, Mary - Did you know? Little drummer boy, Imagine...just as a start.
Thanks parrottm76262! I appreciate the kind words and info!
💕💕💕 ***************SOMETIMES, THERE IS JUST NO WORDS GOOD ENOUGH*************** 💕💕💕 Really loved your raw & emotional reaction!
Thanks sandyleewhite I appreciate the kind words.
If you look carefully you can see the invisible drum kit Kevin plays. (All right, it isn't really there, but it might as well be.) Kevin will reach out with an invisible drumstick to, say, the high hat, and you'll hear the high hat sound. You *know* that it's all coming directly from him, but it doesn't look like it is. It gets surreal on occasion.
This was my first video of PTX…I found their video by accident. I’m a huge Queen fan. I was raised on their music. Bohemian Rhapsody is my all time favorite song of theirs. I didn’t know they were a cappella group……I’m hooked….we are Pentaholic’s . A fierce and loyal fan base. They have over a 10 year catalog of their music. Enjoy your journey……Judy D from NY
It took them 5 years to perfect it. It is absolutely fabulous! I have not heard a bad PTX song ever!
songs that you can hear kevin sing in are Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace, and Imagine....or you can check out his solo Kevin Olusola
Thanks for the info Craig!
I subscribed in hopes of more Pentatonix. Have you listened to Gold? If not, listen to the original first if you aren’t familiar and it’ll blow your mind even more what they’re capable of (especially Mitch in that one).
Thanks for thr suggestion Melissa!
So did I
Breathtaking...
Texas.Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie have been singing together since high school in Texas.
This was recorded in 2017. They have been fantastic for years....and get better and better. Kevin can sing beautifully, play the cello, is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and can beatbox too!! I think he also went to Yale. He is incredible!!
Thanks for the info Lee Anne!
Other favorite ptx pieces are mad world, mary did you know, amazing grace, dance of the sugar plum fairy, radioactive, and a video from one of their live performances, Aha Singapore. Kevin also has some solo videos that showcase many of his super powers. He is a mind boggling talent. Pretty much every thing PTX does is a breathtaking experience.
Thanks for the kind words and suggestions Laura!

Pentatonix has always loved both _Bohemian Rhapsody_ and Queen, and always wanted to do this song. But because they love it so much they were concerned that they couldn't do it justice, so they decided to wait until they were sure that they were ready. They waited for 5 *years* before they decided that it was time, and then there was still arranging, and planning the video, and rehearsing to do; I think that took them several more months, but it was clearly worth the wait.
As already mentioned, the starry sky was intended to honor Dr. Brian May as an astrphysicist. The four shooting stars honor the four members of Queen. And that scene near the end where they're all lying on the couch? That isn't just an awesome visual; it's a reference to the cover art of Queen's _Sheer Heart Attack_ album.
This entire production is a well-planned and executed tribute to *both* _Bohemian Rhapsody_ and Queen.
Thanks Margret!
When Kevin joined PTX, he didn't think he could sing. Avi taught him. He has a very high tenor voice. Beautiful timbre.
Wow that’s awesome info. Thanks!
Kevin has done a cover of True Colors that is lovely! He also plays cello - beautifully - listen to Say Something, Perfect, Shallow, . . . .
You may try Amazing grace from them ❤️
Loved your reaction and your explanations. Pure Pentatonix Perfection ! They never disappoint. More PTX please! Subscribed to your channel now!
Thanks for the kind words and subbing Meg!
Kevin also sings solo parts on their covers of 'Amazing Grace,' 'Mary Did You Know' and 'Imagine' - he has a beautiful (and somewhat unexpected) high tenor voice.
There are so many amazing PTX songs! You need to react to Love Again, one of their original songs. Absolutely Genius! And if you want to hear Kevin sing, review his video of DOWN. He is quite possibly the most talented person I have ever seen! You really need to do MORE PTX!!! I LOVE watching your reaction videos and would love to see you experience more of this phenomenal group!
Thanks for the kind words Cristien!
Pentatonix doesn't do covers; they do upgrades.
The couch is an homage to older videos where they were literally filming on a couch, check out the payphone video mashup.
If you want an even deeper note from Avi, check out the wide awake mashup right around 20 seconds in and again around 25ish. It's so low that some people i have shown it to can't even hear it apparently. Hits it again around 0:38 . What's great is that he also gets a singing verse in that one to stretch his legs a bit.
Love them. Good reaction. Thanks.
Brian May is actually Dr. Brian May. He is an astrophysicist. The scene in which they're looking up at the night sky is homage to Brian May. Brian May was so impressed with the video that he posted it on all of his social media sites . There are 4 shooting stars and I always wondered about that because there are 5 members in PTX. I read in a comment that it's an homage to Queen because there are 4 members in Queen. At least that's how I interpret the shooting stars. The moving couch pays homage to how they started. After Sony drop them they did their own videos and uploaded them to CZcams. They would just be sitting on a couch with a camera aimed at them. I think they did them all in one take because they didn't have money for post-production or editing.
Thanks for all of thr great info Lesa!
Loved your reaction! I'm glad I found you when watching reactions to PTX cover of Hallelujah.
Thanks Maureen!
Love PTX, theirs performances are always something else. You should check on the Carol of The Bells, but the live version they did on "Christmas Under the Stars", that one was awesome! Really loved your reactions and review, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the kind words Amanda!
I feel like your facial expressions should be a meme🤣🤣....and I mean that as a compliment.
Thanks Lin! I can be alittle animated and I get it. I just love good music. I think it brings out the best in all of us.
You must check out "Imagine" and "Sound of Silence" , but then again, they have SOOOOOOOO many great songs you just can't go wrong. Listen to everything they have. The one thing I will recommend is HEADPHONES !! You really pick up a lot of minor nuances that speakers just won't pick up.
Thanks for thr great comments. Yes I usually do wear them but I was so excited to watch I forgot them. So much to do before a video.
First reaction, really digging your videos, big fan. I love it so much because you talk a lot about musical nuances and aspects most of the time that can be overlooked. Those subtle details and they are so important in a music arrangement and especially in a group like this. I am new so forgive me if I suggest something you've already reacted to, but VoicePlay doing "The Oogie Boogie Song" from Nightmare Before Christmas is another one I think you might get pumped up about. Thanks for your comments, first ten minutes in I was like "Definitely subscribing to this guy!" Stay awesome!
Thanks Patricia for the kind words! I’ll add that one to the list. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍
OMG, i never realised that Kevin sang the last lyric until you mentioned it, i always thought that was Mitch.
Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but he does, indeed, have a beautiful voice - like Scott, he's a lyric baritone. He was one of the people singing at the beginning of this song, but there at the end he and Avi weren't singing; they were providing the sound of wind while the rest of the group sang "Anywhere the wind blows."
