      just a note this was an official video so it was lip-synced for the video. anything that says official video is done like any music video they play the music in the background and the band lip-syncs the words for the video, but boy they gave it a very theatrical production value even though it was just one guy filming them in a warehouse. it shows they were all choir and musical theater 'nerds' as they say. i just love these guys and how much they love what they do and how they are all just so good at it! thank you for your very sincere reaction and for knowing who they are i watch a lot of these and its amazing how many people just do a blind reaction not knowing anything about them and their guessing is so annoying lol they should at least look up the band and learn something about them before listening to the songs dont you think?

    I think the next Pentatonix video you should hear is "My Heart with You". It is the quietest cover that they do. During their recent tour, even though the crowd might be thousands, they would put their microphones down, stand in a tight circle facing each other, and sing this song. The audience had to be as quiet as a church mouse to hear, but it was one of the highlights of the night. Having said that I recommend you do NOT listen to a live performance because there is always a few audience members who whoop and holler and it's very distracting. Two of the Pentatonix membership have said it's the song they look most forward to performing. When they sing this song, the five become one.

    I think I like listening to their covers because they usually honor the original composition, their arrangements are meticulous (hard work) and they are all musically extremely talented. I think a nice learning tool for many actually. Depending on your interest in teaching, the recording of Evergreen is definitely worth the view in my opinion for those not familiar with the process today. BTW, Scott covers the baseline very nicely while Matt solos. Selfless teamwork is very important to their arrangements.

  • @Badger77722
    @Badger77722 Před rokem +12

    In songs where you're going to eventually hear their Wall of Sound, PTX has a "habit" of starting the backing vocals at a pretty low volume level, and gradually increasing the volume and intensity of the backing vocals as each verse come along. Eventually, when they hit their Wall of Sound, the backing vocals are pretty much all at the same massive level, and it all sounds like one huge voice singing. It's one reason why Kirstie solos are often towards the end of the song, because shell start off her verse quietly, but ends up belting by the end of it, and the backing vocals are also getting pretty loud to match up with her. The easy examples I think of for this are Sound of Silence, Hallelujah, and Amazing Grace.
    Not to be picky, but they weren't really singing the song in the "warehouse" or stage or wherever the video was shot. They're lip-synching it for the video, but the reverb and effects are all done on the studio master recording. They may well pick the setting for the video depending on what effects they use on the studio recording (so here a big empty space for the reverb), but unless you see them with mics, it's not recorded live.

    Interesting way of thinking about it. Oh yes, I've noticed that in a few other songs they've done. Sometimes it's more subtle & other times more prominent, like in their version of Amazing Grace. It's so informative. One of the things I love about your reactions is you don't talk over them. This is especially important with the making of evergreen bc you WILL miss something. I think you have already done the prayer but if you havent you might want to do it before watching that. By the way the camera person is Kirstins partner, Ben. Did you notice that Matt reached the absolute highest note he could sing clearly at 4:04 with the word "songs". The melody then goes 2 notes higher with the words "that voices", but Matt doesn't sing the melody. Instead he goes lower and let's Kirstie take the melody for two measures, but Kirstie's voice doesn't come to the forefront during those two measures because Mitch is dominant 2 or 3 octaves higher. If you aren't paying attention it sounds like Matt just continues with the melody through those 2 measures. Nice cover-up by Pentatonix!

    I heard you talk about the warehouse and acoustics in this video. I was always under the assumption they record in a studio and then shoot their videos on a set or in a certain location. For example, Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody. But now I’m not sure. Do you think when they are singing in these videos it’s the actual recording we’re hearing? If so, I’m even more impressed than I was before, and I never thought that would be possible!!!!!!

    • @bobcieslinski
      @bobcieslinski  Před rokem

      I do think that they pre record the music and then match it up with thr video. I do however think that in post production they are very smart and match up what the acoustics should be in the video to what we hear in the audio. So adding some reverb and delay would make that happen.

    Hiya, great reaction. Just a tiny thing, it's 'Pentatonix', not 'The' Pentatonix. Scott has incredible range, he always sings the bass line when Matt (and Avi before him) sing their solo verses. I think you said something about their being reverb because they recorded this in a warehouse/industrial unit. It's hard to tell because they lip sync so well but with their videos they record and mix the sound first and then lip sync when they record the video. In itself, that's pretty impressive as it's very difficult to lip sync perfectly. Of course, that's not to say they can't replicate the recorded sound when they sing live, they always do as they never record anything that they can't perform live. They are just incredible. I really like the Disturbed version of this too but I think I slightly prefer the PTX version. Their 'wall of sound' is so incredible.

    I hope you do the disturbed version next / soon so you compare the two- its very different but totaly amazing! But if you do please react to the music video
    czcams.com/video/u9Dg-g7t2l4/video.html NOT the live performance on conan - because the singer was ill for it, and fearing he would have trouble the producers auto tuned him for a couple of bits even tho he told them NOT to! It really spoils those bits - you can totally hear when they use it- and the singer was mad and said he wouldnt go on the show again.
    (The music video is also great and tells a cool story that fits the song). I think its way better than this version- but thats just taste.

    Very much enjoyed this reaction. Your comment on the changing backgrounds is something I just hadn't really thought about, even though I've seen the video several times. Thank you. I have watched several of your previous reactions but this time I'm taking two of your suggestions. First, I'm subscribing. Second, I would ask, and think you would enjoy, reacting to Lara Fabian's: Je Suis Malade ( czcams.com/video/dVvlmpo5g9k/video.html ). This is just one of many of Lara's many performances that tend to blow people away. She is, BTW, reportedly an inspiration to Dimash. The link is an old video (2000) and not particularly HQ, but she sings in French and this video version has both French and English sub-titles. Anyway, I'd really like to see your reaction to Lara. Thanks.
