Cain was looking gassed and unable to take much more punishment, the corner figured he could stay in guard, take less damage and try to ground and pound. Great video. The cornering in the UFC is one of my pet hates. So many seem to have no clue what they are doing and saying. They don't seem to pay attention to THE FIGHTER. Rather, it's very often them talking a mile and minute while the person actually fighting is not paying attention and just trying to get their breath!
Tony Ferguson's idiotic Jackson's corner telling him to take Nate down so he gets choked was the most recent example of their stupidity.

Yan's cornerman was saying "ударь" which means "hit" (without specifying punch or kick). Then Yan asked him "коленом?" which means "knee?". And then cornermen said "бей" which again means hit without specifying either it punch or kick.
So it's either Yan's decision to knee instead of punch or Yan misunderstood it
