The first 3 rounds were pretty legit but the 4th and 5th got SUPER frustrating. There is a certain balance between "taunting and attacking and trying to get a response" and just "avoiding and dancing and borderline not engaging in a fight yourself"
If he had finished Maia in the 3rd it probably would not have gotten the insanely negative response that it got.
That fight is entertaining as shit. I saw it at a bar with casuals, for an afternoon fight no less, and they thought Silva was super amusing
That fight was one of the worst title fights in UFC history. That clip you saw was about all the action in the fight. No takeaway from Silva, he didn’t wanna have a 25 minute wrestling match with Maia and I don’t blame him.
Dana was super pissed saying he never pressed the finish when it was open but seriously the last thing you wanna do is think you got a guy hurt and then dive into his guard to get yourself strangled. Silva played it safe and that’s fine considering how many times he’s thrown himself in the flames for the fans.
But yeah that fight flew under the radar because it’s one of his worst performances.
