    Just bought a 79' Camaro. I'm amazed at the number of parts that are available. Also, the body of information is endless. I'm leaving the world of WRX's and DSM's. These are just too easy.

    The '70 to '73 second Gen Camaro is the best looking of all that model.

    The parts are around $3,600 plus tax, plus oversize freight shipping if anyone is wondering. Excellent conversion but Lord it's hard to drop $4k on a car you drove home for $2,500.

      At speedway motors you can buy the upper header panel and lower valence for $500
      Front nose $500
      Nose chrome trim $500
      Grill $135
      Turn lamps $167

      I agree, and I bet that the rear conversion which a video was never done, is just as expensive. Now you're looking at 7k total just in parts for both the front and back. The rear conversion will require a lot of cutting of the quarter panels, trunk floor panel, and rear panels. It will require more time to fabricate then the front. Very costly.

    A buddy of mine changed the front of his 79, but used the standard full bumper like my 71. It looks really nice the way he set it up!

    Yeah that rad support needs alot of work to work. Just be ready to redo atleast two diff bolt holes. Cover old ones and drill out the right spots weld in new nuts etc. Its normal stuff for repop metal. We all been there done that. On mine it was the hood latch hole off about 3/4 and one of the bracket bolt holes off over 1/2. Easy fix, grind off old bolts. Weld shut hole Drill it out right. weld in a new nut. This was very evident one you put the OE hood latch part against this you will see the difference. Set up all your metal to make sure its all where you want and mark where it needs to go end state. than fix the part. Out of all the parts I have put on, the rad support needed the most work.

    Have you guys done the tail end yet for this car to turn it into the 70-73? I’ve been wondering if there’s a simpler way than what I’ve seen people do

      You can use your 76 fenders and side markers, Camaro fenders were the same from 70-77 but with the money you save get the proper rad support and save the headache of making the 76 one work.

    Why couldn't they stamp out a steel nose for this iconic car?

    • @classicindustries
      @classicindustries  Před 4 měsíci

      It could be done, but the original was urethane, so that's what was reproduced. There may be fiberglass and carbon fiber options out there, but no one has produced one in steel.

  • @oi32df

    The biggest work is yet to come; get rid of that wraparound rear window . I still can't believe almost 50 years later how the GM designers were able to spoil the finesse of the original almost Ferrari design with this glass which tries to emulate the 911 targa look

    $2,500 car + $5,000 of cosmetic parts + countless hours labor spent = $4,000 car

    • @classicindustries
      @classicindustries  Před rokem

      The current market price for a decent 1981 Camaro is about $17,000-$20,000... But at the end of the day, for most, it's not about ROI, it's about enjoying one of the great American pastimes.
