Welcome to Paris. Home of the Mona Lisa, the Eiffel Tower and our restaurant for today - Plénitude.
It opened in 2021 and was awarded 3 Michelin stars in it’s first year. The head chef is Arnaud Donckele. Crafting a menu that puts sauce in the spotlight is genius. In French cuisine, sauce plays a major role, but maybe not the attention it should. Chef Donckele gives it that attention.
I can honestly say my experience at Plenitude was perfect.

It's amazing that you give ordinary people a glimpse to a life that they would probably never experience. Great job!
It's more that (except his normality for him to spend such figures for a lunch 😅) he acts, speaks and has the kindness of a "ordinary person". He's often surprised and humbled by the service and kindness he receives, not demanding it.
lol. That's such an absurd thing to say.
Do you also apologize when someone punches you in the face?
They took the entire loaf of bread and you're saying "thank you" when they give you some crumbs.
Even normal or 'poor' people will spend $40,000 on a car when they could've spent $17,000. Of course you won't get to go to these restaurants constantly or even routinely, but if it is a thing you want to do, it's shitty to have to go through life thinking it's denied to you or it's "for other people." If you make $40,000 a year, is it worth it to go to these restaurants? Fuck no.
But is it worth it to have your *first* experience at such a restaurant? Yes. And is there someone special in your life who deserves to come with you and can get over whatever hangups they have about eating there? If so, the yes becomes a fuck yes.
@@hymnofashes Say what you want, I come from the place where literally none of my friends ever visited Michelin star restaurants and everybody (including me) firmly believe 1000 EUR for a meal is an absurd amount of money. In 18 European Union countries this is more then a monthly minimal gross salary. What's more, citizens of only around 30 countries can afford it based on the minimal monthly salary. That puts things into perspective.
@@piotrs8541 Then... dont make mininum salary? Motivate yourself with this video?
As a former chef's apprentice who got dissatisfied with the profession, your series of videos have rekindled a certain love for gastronomy in me that I had long lost. Thank you and please keep making videos. I would really enjoy an off-series about your own restaurant, not necessarily as a marketing point of view, but just stuff you'd like to showcase that you personally really enjoy!
A little bit ago I left a 12 years career in the kitchen for a more stable job I can have a family with. Your comment is right on point.
@@biofan45what kind of job are you able to get after such a long time as a chef? Cause I’ve only worked in kitchens, and only have a bachelors in English.
@@josephosullivan7506 A job in the government of my country that is not the U.S and did not require any post secondary education.
If it's OK with you, would you share your experiences that led you dissatisfied with the profession?
@Malkav i guess the job is too mechanical for low level chefs
Dude you are killing it! This channel will be huge.
i do hope so too man i love his contents
You are so right
Following from his not so long ago first review, and can't believe now he's getting 10k in an hour...he's definitely brought something different to youtube. And I love it.
So addicted
I mean to be fair that's what money gets you, what he does is unthinkable for all of us and therefore interesting.
As you gain more and more subscribers, please stay true to your editing. Not having any of the crazy edits I see in most videos is a blessing. You focus on the food and the experience without showcasing yourself in odd ways throughout the video and its a very refreshing style.
This
Thank you for pointing this out, you are completely right. This is a great format. When I take a small break from work, I put AtG on because it's the right duration, pace and vibe.
I’m a retired chef 74 years old I have never seen such a very well made review please keep it up, thank you
Telling all my friends about your channel! Your content is unmatched, and in no time you will have the subscribers that this quality of videos deserves thank you for blessing us with this experience and showing us a life of food a lot of people never get to experience!
I just want to say that I really appreciate this channel. Unfortunately, culinary artworks are inaccessible to nearly everyone, but your channel provides a glimpse to the less fortunate of what the world's best chefs can create. There's a creativity and understanding of flavor in these dishes that is simply incredible, and it's a delight to learn about
Going to a 1-2 stars Michelin a couple of times during your life is actually relatively accessible, if that's what you really care about and save the money.
I really like the "sauce centered" idea; this is what I always tell guests at my restaurant- I, and many others, can cook a piece of beef or duck beautifully, but what I cannot do is make a luxurious sauce, and this is a main part of any good restaurant experience. Sauce-making takes an enormous amount of time, labor, and understanding. Absolutely love your channel.
Also why chefs hate when people ask for an item with no sauce and then complain they don't like it, its not an optional extra, it IS the dish, you are intended to eat them together for a full experience
True! in french cuisine "sauciers" were very important in the kitchen - the specialists of sauces
I love the way Alex relives the pleasure of his meal when he recounts it for us. It very much feels like a special occasion.
Truly breathtaking. It's amazing to see food elevated to such a level, it fills me with emotion seeing this experience. Thank you for sharing!
What I am really starting to notice is the recognition you get from the staff and the head chef's. I think they have the same respect for you as you have for them. I dont know what the culinary version of a standing ovation is, but this episode deserves it.
Yes I noticed that too, and I must say that's my own experience in some luxury restaurants as well (and though I like to cook, I'm not a chef). Appreciating some dishes/pairings/details is very welcome and sharing the enthusiasm/appreciation can open a whole new world. Once at a Michellin star restaurant my date was very impressed by the sommeliers choice and said "The one wine I could think of to pair this is dish with, is a [wine I personally forgot be she didn't], but that's not an option because it's almost impossible to get" and the sommeliers eyes lit up, he walked away and came back with that exact bottle. "You made me very happy. This has to be my favorite wine but it's way too costly so we cannot add it to our arrangement without it becoming too expensive". He opened the bottle, poured us both a glass, shared why this wine was so beautiful to him and asked us to come sit at the bar after dinner. After all guests but us left a few members of the staff joined us and the sommelier gave us all a private wine tasting. I already paid the bill for dinner (with a generous tip as I loved the experience) and the owner told me this was on the house. It is not something I ever expect to happen again and I'll never forget it.
@@lourensthalen1674that is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing that heartwarming experience
chefs. No apostrophe.
They actually gave you the recipe, how amazing. So confident in their abilities
that's not a recipe. just a list of ingredients
good point
@@matthewbrealey2026 Which is a recipe?
@@123hattan the recipe includes what you actually do with the ingredients :D
This is your best video yet and what a restaurant! The entire experience just looks incredible. The food, the wine, the chef's table and CHEESE CUPBOARD?!
The cheese looks incredible and the vintage plates are such a nice touch. What am incredible restaurant
It was the cheese cupboard that did it for me too!
Yeah, that cheese cupboard would be a big temptation for me, grab "them cheeses" and devour them with a crispy baguette and flush 'em down with a couple of bottles of those fine wines, and then, take home a plate or two, to add to my collection.
The desserts looked fantastic and delicious too, but, most of the other offerings, I wouldn't even have tried, because I don't like seafood.
I love the old fashioned 19th century style classical French food, laden with truffles, foie gras and lots of creme and even more butter, the style of the great Paul Bocuse, which many of these new upscale restaurants don't offer anymore.
This is a great show and review and the host is a real specialist in his field.
I am part Hungarian( my great grand mother) and it would be interesting if he travelled around Hungary and did reviews of Hungarian restaurants and food.
wrr
Another banger Alex! This is one of my favorite channels to watch whenever you drop a new video. The in depth explanations are fantastic for those of us who have never had the pleasure of dining somewhere like this.
This place looks absolutely incredible. It’s almost like magic when you see the food as well as the restaurant design as a whole.
I look forward to an episode about your own restaurant!
We are already working on it!
part of the appeal of his channel is that he honestly reviews these places without being overly negative for no reason...that would be hard to do with his own place
@@deathmetalalchemist5861 I think he will do different style of video for his own restaurant
@@alexandertheguest you should get someone else to dine with you at your own one, then review it instead of you 😉
I write this comment from a wintry Melbourne with such longing for the experience you so eloquently describe. “Does the perfect restaurant exist? I don’t know. But the perfect experience? Absolutely.” Watching your joyfully artful gastronomic critiques is my perfect experience. Rick
If I win the lottery I will definitely dine here, I might even buy a new tracksuit to wear for the event. I love these vignettes depicting his gastronomic explorations into the world of Michelin adventures.
Mate, your videos are getting better every time. Absolutely amazing to see you how your channel is growing and the passion to share and show such unique venues. Thanks.
There comes a point where you bear witness to something so impressive and so elite, that any words of praise one could come up with would just seem meaningless.
I may never be able to eat or experience this kind of food... But i am so happy that someone like you actually decided to film these places with Michelin stars ... Watching you makes me feel like I'm also experiencing it too. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gosh, the level of detail is Mind Blowing.
The quality of these videos is just crazy.
Wow. For both the restaurant and another top quality video. I'm impressed. Also, it lasts slightly longer with 12 minutes, but I felt super engaged throughout. Keep it up, I can't wait for the next one!
Your video's have become my favorite weekly series in the shortest time! Your presenting skills are amazing and such good commentary with eye for detail! If you're ever visiting The Netherlands, I would come with you if I could :)
in next to no time this channel gas become my absolute favourite, the effort put in and the quality put out of your videos is astonishing
Another great video, loving the volume and quality of the content. That wine pairing was so unique and the cheese looked incredible!
Your vids get better every single time, at this point it's one of my top 3 "a new vid dropped" channels in all of my 100+ subs.
Also absolutely fell in love with what LVMH did with Samaritaine as a whole, bought some incredible single origin chocolate bars some months ago on my last trip in the specialty food section.
Holy smokes! What an experience and amazing insight. This channel for sure will blow up soon when more people find how passionate you are.
This youtube channel deserves 3 michelin star.
Man i subbed to you at 40k a month ago and you’ve literally DOUBLED your subs since then
This content is so good and i doubt the channel is gonna stop growing any time soon…
You are a great storyteller. I feel like I am with you on every story and experiences you share! More power Alexander!
I love this content. Something sort of similar happened to me once at a small restaurant with a wine pairing where, in this case the owner, gave me a glass of an expensive wine (not 1000 Euros per bottle in your case but hundred-ish per bottle), I said something along the lines of he shouldn't have, he's too nice and he's losing money on the wine pairing. He then confided that he was already going to open the bottle to share with the staff when service was done and the thought I should have a glass as well.
There are a lot of passionate people working in restaurants and it is one of the reasons that going out to eat it is my favourite hobby.
Best food channel on CZcams right now. Have no idea how over the past three weeks you've jumped on all my feeds but im very happy with it. Fantastic
Every video you put out is your new best video! As an ex Chef I am not often amazed in the culinary world anymore but this one really made me rethink what a 3 Michelin star experience can be.
Yeap. This channel is growing by 5-10k subs every time i revisit, and honestly the quality of A the Guest deserves every single sub. I adore the content.
I am taken by your knowledge, understanding and appreciation of these places. But even more, the descriptions of every facet of the experience. It brings them to life in a way I have not seen elsewhere.
Lovely video of a culinary experience that is a joy to behold. Your videos are becoming an exemplary experience for someone like us who love food and what amazing restaurants are innovating to elevate people's taste buds. We will rarely be able to experience all of these so thank you for showcasing the best of the Michelin experiences and a lovely food journey. A huge thumbs up to your channel.
Thank you so much for showing to us this particular experience. Absolutely stunning, location dishes , service looked perfect. WOW, I’m blown away.
Must say I am amazed by your videos. Really sparks my Interest for good food that I never thought I had. This channel is a gem, and u make me feel like I sat down at the table with you….. unreal experience!
Always quality content, Thank you Alex!
This is the channel that we dont deserve but the one we needed. Thank you!
For the people in the comments saying that they're lucky they can get a glimpse of a life they themselves cannot afford through this channel: You can! I myself don't have a high paying job at all, but I save money for those kind of experiences. Sure, I can't do this on a regular basis like Alexander, but only once or twice a year. Nonetheless, it is very much worth it for me! I don't see it as going to a restaurant, but more like having a "mini holiday". It's all a question of priorities.
It's not much more expansive that, let's say, a trip in the US (if you're European). But then it just depends on what people like. This restaurant is insanely expansive, but it's also a genuinly unique experience.
Yes Sir! I cook for a living and I’m able to afford travel. Saving rn for a two week trip to France next yr. The Airbnbs I found cost less than any place I’ve stayed in LA!
I scored a reservation at Plentitude. Since watching this video and learning of the astronomical prices I’ve started a second line cook job. I’ll be working 6 days a week, 10 maybe more hours a day for the next year just so I can flourish at Plentitude next Oct. It’s definitely possible!
It’s a good day when Alexander uploads
Beautifully Done! Makes me miss my days in the kitchen, until I remember the hours that go into such perfection.
Thank you for sharing these amazing experiences with us! I'll never have the opportunity to dine there, but I'm thrilled to see how wonderful the food looks and how delighted you are with the overall experience. It gives me something to dream about one day!
For some time now I have had the desire to eat at a Michelin star restaurant, especially a 3 star, but after watching this guy's videos my fears have been confirmed. Not only would I not be able to appreciate the food due to my simplistic experience with food but even if I could understand what I was eating I don't think I would walk away amazed. It's just too much presentation and high price.
Presentation is more like a requirement. The best food on earth could be served in a bad looking way and it would subconsciously ruin some of your tasting. Its not to hide an OK food (not at this level anyway) if its what you fear
But your right about the taste. Taste is memory, and a newcommer could be oblivious to some subtleties. If you like food, however, make food yourself, know what good product is, and dont just eat sugar/salt insdustrial garbage, you could apreciate the experience. MAybe start with a reputable one star.
Go to a 1 star Michelin restaurant. Get the tasting menu. You don't have to have lots of wine. Probably cost you €100. It's a good experience.
@SeanONilbud A One Star Michelin restaurant would probably be the most I would consider trying, and that's because its menu is probably something I could understand and better appreciate.
@@845835 I only went to a 1 star for the first time a few months back and the defining feature was that everything was delicious. Mad ingredient combinations resulting in deliciousness. Everything was nice, the service was perfect. There were as many staff as customers for instance. About as unMcDonalds as you can get.
I’ve never looked forward to videos more… thank you for your passion and sophistication.
This channel is a gem! This is gonna blow up.
Love the paper pop up of Paris when serving the dessert. Clever. It’s all in the details.
Most certainly the most exciting experience you shared on this channel. I've been watching other visits like an enjoyment, but with this one I was mouth-watering from the beginning to the end.
Fabulous! Thank you for the beautiful presentations and sharing the experience.
This has since become one of my favorite channels on YT. I love to travel, but many of my culinary adventures during said travels are from night markets, little holes in the walls, local favorites. Very seldom do I ever get to visit a place with a michelin star, but here you give us a beautiful view into some of the greatest, most prestigious and creative restaurants in the world.
Thank you Alex! more please more! what a Happiness!
This is a very unique channel.
I rarely watch these kinds of videos, but you going around to 3 Michelin Star places and giving an honest and thorough review is great.
I was recommended this channel on my feed.
I'll be back lol.
What a wonderful video. It oozes passion and I always watch with a big smile on my face. Great work!
with all the experience you have at all these wonderfull places, a perfect is like an accolade
Remember seeing your second vid on my recommended and decide to watch, think you had like 3k subs and vids have just been getting better and better. Keep up the great work!
Love the channel Alex, well presented and you do a nice job of not coming off snobby which can be quite easy with these experiences. There are a few restaurants I've added to my "will visit" to look forward to!
I agree, Plenitude is amazing. Restaurant perfection. Continue uploading these incredible French restaurants, they are wonderful to watch.
Absolutely amazing channel and amazing food! Us mere mortals can only imagine some of these gastronomic experiences through your videos! Incredible.
uggh, the FOH in this one made me tear up. Outrageous. Take notes kids, the food is unquestionably some of the finest in the world but its the service that is making this truly spectacular. Now i WANT to go. Good lord. perfection
This has to be your best video yet, and I agree with you.. this is absolute perfection!
I think I've watched 90% of your channel now, and it's such an odd feeling. I've never had any real interest in fine dining, but watching you so passionately talking about it & showing the experience makes me want to explore it.
Same here.
Same. I love the way he introduces each restaurant. His review is both relaxing and constructive.
This is by far my favorite youtube channel. Bravo Alexander!
This is one of the best episodes you have made and that says a lot. Looks outstanding.
To paraphrase an old American ad campaign from MasterCard: “Lunch for two at the best restaurant on Earth…£2,000. Being able to experience it with a gifted guide without actually paying…priceless.”
Every single video is amazing. Great work Alexander!
I sit and wait for a new video every single week. Amazing! Love it!
When you watch such genius timing, content and knowledge, you create magic. Perfect!
Holy moly the wine pairings here are incredible, looked like it was possibly the best restaurant you've covered yet!
I couldn't stop smiling, what an incredible place. On my bucket list now.
Holy c_, would not have taken a connoisseur to give this place 3 stars just by everything you've shown us, save for the actual quality and taste of the food ofc. The invitation to the chef's table with him serving you himself was (chef's kiss).
Thank you for letting us join you Alex! Your channel is AmAzInG!!
Arnaud Donckele is a cooking god. His mastery of sauces in absolutely unmatched?
First time watching a video from your channel, love it from the beginning to the end , the editing , the commentary , such a big love for the food 😊

Kősőnőm very much for this episode, I follow you since your first episode. This is so out of this world. It so inspiring for me as a home cook. Thank you for sharing your experience and your explanation. It really gives me an idea of the taste.
Just had dinner here… it was awesome! If you get the opportunity give it a try! Love the focus on sauces and desserts were excellent. Desserts I particularly I liked as they were balanced and complex vs. just being sugar bombs. As he said wine list is amazing!
Incredible Alexander. Thank you. 👌🏽
Amazing! thanks Alexander!
Insane mouth watering, keep these videos coming, great job
this is your best video yet we can feel how much you enjoyed this experience
Gorgeous to the eyes. I can only imagine how ethereal the experience must have been.
One of the most underrated CZcams channel worldwide! 👍 I hope the numbers of followers will catch up soon. Your knowledge of the industry and the quality of videos are insane! 👏
thank you for sharing all your experiences with us.
no doubt this channel will blow up! exceptional guide to the most luxurious cuisine in the world ! next year this will hit 1MM subscribers. Mark my word!
I'll never go there for obvious reasons, but I like this channel for giving a pretty good impression of what it would be like to eat there. Which saves me a lot of money lol
Your videos are superb and I applaud every aspect of them.
The prospect of 2000E for lunch - even though I can afford it - is unfathomable. I have the greatest respect for what these restaurateurs do - but it is fairy tale silliness but for .01 percent of the population and those that enjoy your wonderful videos.
I would appreciate your responding by telling me “to eat cake” - as such a whimsical response would be well deserved.
Please continue to entertain us - you are doing a great job.
One must always have a dream, and one should always bear in mind Oscar Wilde's view that "We Are All In The Gutter, But Some Of Us Are Looking At The Stars"
its definitely not a 0.1 % experience. Its just a matter of priority. Many middle class people spend easily 1000 euros over a year on silly things. Just save them and have a amazing culinary experience. Im not rich and I have done many 3 michelin stars in my life. Im just loving gastronomy. The hardest part is more to manage to get a table.
@@homasas4837 very true
It is a .1% experience - actually less. Yes - many can save to do a 2,000e lunch - but very few allocate such resources to do so. I work with bankers and lawyers - all of which who can afford it - but even then only an exceptionally small number would spend that much on lunch. And these are people that can afford it.
@@joelmarvin3206 im french, all the restaurant from 1 star to 3 stars are booked like 6 months in advance. All my friend has been at least once to this type of restaurant and we all earn less than 2500e per month. Its certainly not a 0.1 % experience. If nobody does it around you, its probably more a culture issue. And by the way, my fast food budget is zero euro per year.
I tried to get a reservation for Plenitude late last year. They were fully booked five months in advance (and I only asked in 2)! Nice to see what I missed here, will try booking them again as soon as I get the chance.
