Just to clarify, when I say "silicon chip" I am referring to "M-series chips". Technically, the A-series are Silicon too. I was trying my best to push the video out ASAP and misspoke a few times. ✌🏾
Definitely worth it for me havent had an ipad since 2017 because i hated the backlight bleed of the lcd screens and after 7 years of waiting finally oled came to ipad and got the 11 inch

@@JonImperial I live in Mexico and unfortunately it’s not available here yet so I’ve not been able to physically get my hands on the M4 . I guess I’ll wait and see what my instincts tell me at the time and also see what surprises Apple has in store for us with iPad OS 18 😝
@@JonImperial I also have the 2020 11" ipad pro and just picked up the new one today. My old one had a cracked screen and bent frame so it was a bit easier to make the jump. Figured I could spend $500 on a new screen or put that $500 towards an upgrade...

Silver. Good informative review. Do you feel that the extra price is worth it to get the 1T unit which has more ram and more performance cores? I will use the iPad for photographs. Also if I plug in an external drive that is formatted in exFAT and use in a windows based desktop, can I copy photo to it from my iPad Pro M4?
It’s really not worth it. There’s barely even a difference in power.
Will this iPad be your main device?
Personally I would rather have the binned chip for better battery life in demanding tasks. The difference in performance between the two seems negligible. Theoretically the unbinned chip should also thermal throttle faster, which might make it worse for workflows that max out your chip for long periods of time
So far the 9c testing shows it’s fine and not much slower than 10c since most of the apps tested were GPU bound and it’s the same GPU. Also same NPU for the “AI” later.
I don’t mind the binned chip too! I’m more “concerned” about the RAM difference. 😊

For art, I think the new screen+Apple pencil pro would be really nice!!! You can still make it work with say a 12.9 mini LED+older pencil of course.
If you can find a cheap M2 go for that. If budget is not a problem, get the new one for longevity

@@JonImperial Main reason is for music production apps that don't run well on Android. Going to take notes, annotate pdfs and maybe dabble with the digital art. It will be somewhat replacing a 2020 samsung s6lite.

I use my current 2020 iPad mounted as a “ second-monitor” (although it stays in iPad mode most of the time), but I can imagine this beast being a great ‘always-on’ AI / productivity companion. I actually prefer the idea of having a separate device for this function.
I can’t justify the price for that quite yet, but I’m hoping they surprise me!

I have the M2 11 inch with 1tb and cellular and love it. I've owned it since October 2022. I use mine to edit videos with Luma Fusion. I also have over 160 movies locally that I can watch whenever I want. Before I purchased the M2, I used to have the 2018 ipad pro (same specs). I thought about holding onto that one when the M2 came out and just seeing what the next gen pro ipads will be like but I caved and purchased the M2 instead. I have no plans of getting the M4.

I have the 2020 iPad as well but i am waiting on WWDC to determine if i will upgrade or not. Also since i am a mechanical engineer, i use a lot if cad apps like shapr3d and fusion 360. Id love to see a comparison of those apps from the 2020 and the m4 ipad.

2018 iPad Pro in 2024 here. Still smooth as butter, but screen brightness and battery slowly feeling dated. Should I upgrade?

just got the new iPad Pro M4 2024 11’. The screen and the thinner / lighter design are a game changer for me. So far very happy. However I noticed the speakers and even the Bluetooth (I’m connecting the iPad Pro to my Bluetooth speakers) are not as good as previous iPad pros. What do you think?

Hey Jon, Thanks so much for the review. I ordered the IPAD Pro 1 TB with Matt screen. I agree with you 1000% on whether one really needs to spend that amount of money for this IPAD at this juncture, however I am banking on Apple to release a well thought out new OS for it where we can really benefit even more from it's capabilities. Wonder what you think about whether or not Apple will release a much better OS this June during their next WW event?

Am in the same boat. Have a 2020 ipad Pro 12.9 as my main device. Also had the 2015 ipad pro12.9. Hardly use my MBA 13… looking to upgrade to the M4 ipad pro 13 but also looking to consider the ipad Air 13. Primary reason in getting the ipad pro 12.9 was the screen size. However, been so used to Face ID, 120Hz display… with these not available on the ipad air 13, will I notice the difference? Its also a $700++ difference (since I’ll have to buy the new Magic keyboard for the ipad Pro 13) … with that amount I can buy the new apple watch 10 when it come out. Pls review the ipad air 13 vs ipad pro 13

I would get a m1 12.9 over a 13 inch air it’s better in every way but the chip which would be about 15% difference in performance and it’s 50 dollars cheaper

After my GCSEs I’m looking to buy an 11 inch iPad Pro, I was wondering if it is worth also getting a monitor so I could use an external keyboard and mouse with the monitor and iPad while at home at my desk, but then I could just use the iPad when I’m at school for example. What do you think? Is there any point also getting a monitor?

@@b-id5wq because I just want to use the pen. My sister bought an iPad for her a levels and she really likes it. I’ve seen other people recommend them as well. It will do all the stuff I need it to do, and it’s nice and portable. I want to handwrite my notes rather than type them as well.

I personally have not used a monitor for this purpose but it seems like a great setup!
My sister used it as her primary computer for HS and my other sister uses it to run her real estate business. The iPad can be good enough. 😊
For the first time, I spent more $ on an ipad than a real computer. Getting the 13 Pro 1 TB with cellular. It replaces my laptop as the tether machine to my Sony 7RV using capture one. At the end of the shot, I just wrap up, bring it home, open the project and continue working on my mac studio. Then I can use artstudio pro to paint and sketch one the go, just like the cintiq, but it can do more.
It’s expensive, but as a tablet this strong, it’s worth the price.

@@JonImperial M1 ipad pro but with the based and no cellular and the storage is just 128GB. That’s my sketch / drawing tablet. Now it can replace my old M1 Macbook Air. Weight reduction, improved brightness, and M4 makes me pull the trigger.
How is holding the 13 inch in your hand for browsing, gaming, consuming content?
It’s big man. Honestly a bit too big imo. Unless it’s your going to be mainly just sitting down somewhere using it but even then it’s hard to play games on the 13 inch. If you’re a serious gamer anyways you’d have better performance on the 11 inch. Not hardware performance but your own skill performance you’ll be able to play better on the 11 inch.
I’m new to the 13” size, but so far it’s been great for table use. It’s a bit too big for me when I’m on the couch or browsing… but again it’s new to me so we’ll see.
I have the iPad Pro 11 inch 2nd generation just like you. I bought it on release, I’ve used it for basic stuff, for college and as a second monitor for my setup and it still flawless. The battery is showing its age for sure but other than that it does everything easily. I wanted to upgrade but I genuinely could not tell any difference from mine other than the slight difference in the screen. I couldn’t justify the $1k+ price tag, but the new iPad regardless is amazing. Just needs better os.

@@JonImperialI doubt we will get anything revolutionary on the new os, Apple won’t let the iPad compete with MacBooks imo. An iPad with a solid os would outshine a MacBook Air for a lot of people if it was capable of running the same programs I think. That’s why they keep the iPad limited which sucks because it’s like buying a Ferrari but not being able to drive faster than 60mph 😅. I would be more than happy with an air but I got used to the 120hz, I may pull the plug on a new pro later on if they drop in price tho.
Same here. I have the 11 inch 2nd gen, the price tag killed it for me, but also I don't export or edit videos, nor do I edit photos. I've used it in place of my PC/Mac when traveling so I can remote into things but aside from that it's still fulfilling my CZcams, chatGPT and other streaming stuff.

I only upgraded because my Pro 11 2nd gen had a cracked screen that cost so much to fix that I put the money towards the new ipad. I mostly use it for media consumption so the screen is the main selling point for me. I Do use it to run some golf sim programs too, so the extra power of the Pro is a plus in that use case for me. But again if the screen had not been cracked so bad I probably would have waited to upgrade as well.
For me its 100% a worth upgrade considering i held on the ipad mini 3 from all the way from 2014 and after 10 years im 100% sure its time for an upgrade

@@JonImperial Im planning on saving up to get the iPad Pro 13 inch size with 256 gb in space black! And yeah its a HUGE upgrade considering i barely use my old ipad due to it being laggy and now the battery being inflated.

I have same exact iPad as you and thinking about upgrading but to the Air and not the Pro. Because I don't feel I used all of the "pro" features and capabilities, I don't need a pro model iPad. Not going to be an Apple Pencil user and don't use my iPad to type up anything so not going to need or use the magic keyboard. The only thing I'll really miss from the Pro model is pro motion. As beautiful as the pro models are now, I don't feel I can justify the price point they are being sold out right now. The Air feels like the right model for me and what I'll be using it for.

I have the 2020 iPad 2.9…not noticed any thing slow,for me the only use case for having the M chip is for Logic Pro as the new update does not work with A12z chip other than that I only watch CZcams or gaming

It's only the the stem splitter that does not work, the Ai bass and piano players work fine on the 2020 iPad Pro.
@@JonImperial I’ll be honest I was looking to upgrade but for the price for me it isn’t worth it as I said before the only reason I would need any m chip is purely for Logic Pro and nothing else as I don’t use it for drawing or video editing,just making music and streaming

I have the 2020 IPad Pro 11. I went down to Apple to get the new IPad Pro 11 inch. I was going to trade in my old model for it but what changed my mind was the fact that the new IPad requires a new Keyboard. If they would have made the original keyboard compatible I would have it today. However, I couldn’t justify spending another $300 on a keyboard and than have my old $300 keyboard sit and collect dust.
That is a tough pill to swallow. You can try to sell it on FB Marketplace or something and get some money back. 😊

@JonImperial I was just watching it lol. It looks like you use both. I wish that Apple would inherit some of the AI features like voice-to-text and summarizing and opening two apps at the same time this will make me switch cause right away iPad and Apple watches are superior to what Samsung tablets and watches offer. My daily driver is iPad Pro and S24+ but I feel they are disconnected.
Any hardware purchases from here on out has to go with your software needs. Hardware performance these days aren't really the issue.

The ipad was very useful when I was still studying; but now at work, I just used it mainly to watch youtube, netflix and read books. I'll upgrade to the new ipad mini 7 (from an ipad pro 2020) when it becomes available. Currently, the big ipads are just additional electronic wastes.

Worth it is subjective. Generally speaking, no. Especially if you already have accessories for the M1. Of course you can make any argument why it’s worth it and you can make that decision for yourself.
For example, you really want the OLED screen or the Apple Pencil Pro.. etc.
So your saying you would rather have us get an an M3 laptop instead of an new M4 iPad? Those prices for M3 chips are start 1999... for a 12b with 16 GB of RAM... but the M4 out performs the M3 by 22% so In theory the iPad is a much better deal especially since M4 wont come to MacBooks for another year...
The M3 MacBook Pro starts at $1,599.
Also, synthetic benchmarks are great to get an idea of how much better a chip is, but the truth is iPadOS limits you on what you can do. You are paying close to the same price for less functionality.
If you need the Apple Pencil, then by all means, go for it. But the M1/M2 iPad Pro can do most tasks the M4 can do...
WWDC can change all of this though.
Just to put things into perspective, I was rocking a IPad Pro 9.7… in 2024… Let that sink in… lol It has 2 gigs of ram and it was stopped being supported by Apple. The M series can easily get to 2030.

Making the bezel thinner is a double edged sword… on tablet mode, you wouldn’t have a spot to hold it.
@JonImperial s9 ultra is perfectly fine when holding it, and the bezels are way slimer. The ultra looks modern and the iPad looks outdated because of the chunky bezels.
I rather keep the IPad Pro 2nd gen… make.. I just watch movies and use procreate maybe WWDC software update might do the trick but working on an iPad is still tough it’s just a bigger iPhone

That’s what got me. I have the 2020 as well. IF they would have made the new IPAD Pro compatible with the old keyboard I would have made the switch. However adding another $300 keyboard was the tipping point for me.

its great ipad only for professional artist ilustrator and editing video and photos but this ipad is normal for average and it cannot be utilized it because they will only using this for media consumption games watching movies and reading books and other stuffs etc

@@BlindRossMinor initially I thought the M4 have less distortion especially when you have it on max volume.. but after listening over and over it sounded so close. I didn’t think it was worth saying or pointing out. It was too close to factor in your decision making.
