    The fact that the oil is not gushing out when you pull the plug is a great thing. It means the unit is still sealed and no leaks normally. Great job!

    Great info. Started doing my now after local dealership closed. Lots of help so thank you. Noticed my oil turned dark after three seasons. Checked on two other friends and theirs did the same. Its like the HPF Pro oil is turning black on all of them way before the 5 year/500 hrs. Started doing mine every season now to keep it at that nice golden color. Worth the peace of mind.

    I’d drain level till it quits, then tilt about 30 degrees and wait till that quits.
    Then refill ONLY with engine perfectly LEVEL.
    I liked your idea of coming back and re-draining to “wash out” old residual lube from before that was dark. It was pretty dark.
    Was the lube in reservoir before change also dark? If so possibly that could be used as a gauge to determine oil changes if dark earlier than prescribed hourly use on engine. Just a thought 💭.

    Thanks for the video Eric, there is so little info on the G2. The allen wrench is a 4 mm to remove the screen, same size for the motor side cowling panels. Takes a little effort to get it seated in the screw due to the angle, just be patient.

      Could have been. Mine may of had more corrosion built up in it. The key is to make sure it feels snug before you try to turn it. That would probably be a 30 minute to hour long job with an easy out if you round it off.

      These motors have 3,000 but according to a search the dealer did on the serial numbers, the gear cases were replaced halfway though their lives, so I’m guessing 1500.

    • @ericdavi1231
      @ericdavi1231  Před 2 lety

      If it’s on a G2 anything from that part of the motor is related to the DPS. All that stuff requires proprietary tools and parts. It will need to see a dealer.

    Thank you for it. I have a question it is important for me, I own a 150 Evinrude g2 with 60 hours,I bought last summer and I did not change anything on machine and did not do any maintance. I only winterized my engine, what should I do for next summer ?

      I change my gear oil every 100 hours. Evinrude says you can go longer but I don’t. I also visually inspect the clear overflow gear oil jug inside the cowling after each use to make sure it doesn’t look milky. Milky means water got in and the oil isn’t able to lubricate anymore.

      @@alibaranakpolat5925 I also change my fuel filters, spark plugs and water pumps every year. You should be able to go to the Evinrude website and they’ll list everything. I’ve only had these Evinrudes for a year myself, I had a Mercury before.

    • @ericdavi1231
      @ericdavi1231  Před 2 lety +1

      With the engine idling you can push the “winterize” button. I guess you could also use the “winterize” function if you’re going to be leaving it for a long time during the summer. All it does is pump extra oil into the cylinders.
