    friend lol... there are videos to help you with that water-pump. This is NOT how you do the impeller. Put the key in the slot on the drive shaft, then place the new impeller on the shaft with key holding it. Put the cup back in the housing, do your gasket s etc and place the housing over the driveshaft, rotate driveshaft clockwise and push downward. The impeller will move itself into the housing the correct direction. The way you did it made it very hard. it works but no need to be that hard.
    Also, the avation sealer is NOT to keep water from gushing out of the gaps, it is to keep AIR from sucking INTO the unit and losing water from sucking up into the unit. Make sense?
    Others mentioned.... do NOT put grease on the tops of those shafts, you can destroy the gear loading by doing so.
    hope you are still loving your machine!

    Great instructional video. Evinrude overcomplicated what used to be a very quick and simple lower-unit service. Water pump service is a point that I bring up when someone asks my opinion of the Evinrude G2 motors. These motors were the final nail in the coffin for a brand that used to lead the way in the Outboard race.

    Thank you for doing this! Hopefully I won't have to replace mine on my 2019 250 g2 but at least I'll know what to go to find out how to do it!! And taking the cover off is a pain! They could have made that easier

      Can you drop it enough to cut the zip tie and replace the impeller with it being supported just a few inches below as not to remove all of the panels?

      @@evansmith8417 what do you do if you try to turn the drive shaft counter clockwise and it doesn’t release the key lock in the impeller? I don’t want to put any kind of pliers or wrench on the drive shaft for fear of scratching it. I did try a vice grips with a piece of rubber around the shaft and tried holding onto the impeller itself and turn it but no go. I should state too that I’m taking the gear apart because something broke in it and it won’t go into gear. And it’s not the shift actuator because it works. There are metal flakes in the gear box and milky oil and it just reved up and the boat slowed down. And will not go into gear. It’s like it’s in neutral. So I can’t put it into gear to hold the drive shaft and impeller to turn it counterclockwise to release the key lock

      @@kenknutson4684 shot bid obviously your lower is trash , so at this point what ya need to do is just get the damn thing out of there . Find you a lower unit and ask 4 the second shaft with it , it’s a 2 piece shaft so it shouldn’t be a problem to find that . To separate the damn thing those scratches you put in it won’t hurt the shaft . Just debur it when you’re done with a file . At the end of the day these are machines we are working on not a human brain ya know

    Although you have to feed a hose and the shift cable through two holes you don't have to align a shift shaft when reinstalling the lower unit. Seems easier than my 90hp G1, where a drive shaft, shift shaft, cooling tube and exhaust housing have to be aligned simultaneously.
    BTW do not grease the top of the driveshafts. It may prevent the shafts from being seated which may apply downward force on the pinion gear.

    It is interesting to me that they went BACK to an electric shift lower unit. They had discontinued doing this in i believe 1971 due to issues when a lower would leak a few drops of water into themselves. The water would short the solenoids and leave you stuck in forward gear. Wondering how this is fixed? Did you have to use electric shift lower unit oil?

    • @evansmith8417
      @evansmith8417  Před rokem

      There is a very specific lower unit oil you have to use but I’m not sure the reason

    Wow, awesome video with lots of good information. I just bought a boat with this same motor (150) and I noticed the other day when I was flushing the motor that their was no tell-tail streaming out. I was using the hose connect on the back of the motor. Is this normal with these engines? Any information is greatly appreciated. The motor ran great and I noted a tell tail when operating the boat, just not one at idle later that evening when flushing it. I did get an error 58 code the other day when flushing it. Any advise? I’m new to these motors. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    • @evansmith8417
      @evansmith8417  Před rokem +1

      The tell tail comes out of the flush port on the back of the motor when it’s running so you wouldn’t see a tell tail while flushing , also I don’t run the motor when I flush it . Evinrude says it isn’t necessary . I mainly don’t run it while flushing because it’s really hard on the impeller due to lack of water. Error code 58 is a temp related error code . G2 ‘s hate idling so try to keep it to a minimum

    In the service manual is stated that by installing the lower unit back on the G2 it must be set in forward gear first. Anybody have any idea why? Does not seem to have any influence on the components to be assembled.
