    Our verdict of the Xiaomi Roborock S50 - 9/10: Incredible navigation abilities allow for zoned cleaning, on top of being the most powerful vacuum you can buy at this budget. Alexa support now works for Europeans too. But consider if you might be better served by buying two cheaper devices instead.

    *A great vacuum💯 for the price. The suction is awesome **MyBest.Tools** excellent for pet hair. The beater attachment works great on the stairs. Not too heavy and easily maneuvered.🤨*

    No multiple maps... I had to buy 2 because of the 2 stories house. Totally worth it, though! It is so quiet that you can hear the wheels over the vacuum in quiet mode. For the mopping you don’t need to swap the dust box (!?), the mop attachment itself is a water tank.
    I don’t know if it’s an update but it does actually warn you about the full dust bin! 👍
    Single biggest downside is that you can’t save the zones, so no “clean the kitchen” or “clean dinner table” commands. I hope they fix it with an update soon, it would make the vacuum 10x better!

    We have a 2 story home. I wish they would give an option for a 2nd base station charger so i can move the robot from one level to the next and have it know what level it is on and store the maps accordingly.

    *I run the m6 daily, and my floors look awesome🌼 **allabout.wiki/Robotic** I wet mop 2 days and dry sweep the rest of the days. When I first got it, I used the included disposable pads. I didn't like them--the dry pad has no depth so if it picks up a chunk of something, like dry cat food, then it pushes it around or drags it around the floor. The wet pad wasn't very absorbent so left streaks and wheel marks.*

    Very nice review, this robot vacuum is great. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that when you pick it up it looses the map. Also you mentioned that you dont know when the tray is full but Im pretty sure Ive gotten a notification letting me know to empty the trash bin. The new save map option is a little confusing to me but other than that this thing is great.

    The biggest problem right now has been the lack of updates. The other brands have added multi floor map saving aside from virtual barriers. For some reason, Roborock has been slow to add simple features to their app.

      Oh, I'm fairly sure you're right. We bought the place 4 years ago and the hallways are all done in this crap. It's just so much of the stuff to replace, and bloody awkward corridors due to bent walls (1850s house, extended numerous times).

    I'm having a dilemma about the navigation that I hope you could solve.
    What happens when the furniture gets moved a bit (ie. chairs that can't
    always be in the exact same spot)? Does S5/S50 adapt or draws another
    map? Also how is the map used by the device? Is
    it just for user reference and area selection or does Roborock actually
    know what areas are left based on previous mapping (or is it just going
    around hoping to hit same doorways and areas via it's lidar?) Thanks.

    • @MakeUseOf
      @MakeUseOf  Před 4 lety

      It'll map out new objects or changed stuff as it goes around again. It's used to select which areas to clean, and can actually determine rooms I believe in the latest firmware (haven't tried that though). It doesn't strictly determine a full clean though - like if a wall wasn't there, it wouldn't stop there anyway jsut because there was once a wall on the map, it would just redraw the new map.

    • @Frostensen
      @Frostensen Před 4 lety

      @@MakeUseOf Thank you for the quick reply.
      English is my second language so I'm having a little trouble discerning the answer. Does that mean it draws a new map every time something is changed/moved a bit or it just adapts the existing one and goes through the rest of remaining map as it was instead of wandering around? If I understood correctly iAdapt 3.0 in Roomba adapts the existing map and goes about its business instead of rediscovering things so I'm wondering if S5 does the same.
      Thank you.

  • @ps429
    @ps429 Před 5 lety

    I'm not sure why people complain that this vac doesn't do 2 floors simply because it redraws a new map. When you use your old upright vac to do the second floor, don't you change your pattern of how you vacuum? Just move your base station upstairs when you want to vac there and it will do just fine.

    • @MakeUseOf
      @MakeUseOf  Před 5 lety +1

      That ruins the whole point of being able to selectively clean though if you have to generate a new map each time.

      @@MakeUseOf The combination of roborock and HomeKit is amazing. Homebridge for RaspberryPi + homebridge-xiaomi-roborock-vacuum-zones module and you can start cleaning any room using Siri. And starting cleaning the entire house with Siri is possible without rasppberypi, only from the application itself.

      Hi Skuzzy, I'm afraid that's a decision Gleam makes (our giveaway system provider). "Throwaway" accounts are not eligible for entry due to the fact they're just used to enter competitions. If you use your Twitter account in a more realistic way - by posting real tweets, just not retweets and competition entries - the algorithm should automatically start accepting your entries. Sorry, nothing I can do about that one..
