I've had mine since it came out! The mrs was pissed at me at first as she took it that I was suggesting she didn't do a good job but the house is 250M2 Carpet upstairs and tile in the Bathroom. We have 3 kids too. Now she loves it. It has to drop and clime over a CM high step between floor surfaces but does so without a problem. I'm on the the original battery!! but need a new front wheel. The curved edge of the plastic shoe trays in the hall were the only place it got stuck and this was daily for months before the wheel casing cracked. Replaced them with sided ones and the touch sensor has no problem now. Totally impressed with this device. For the price a separate unit for upstairs may be an option. I had the laser malfunction and was a bout to buy what I thought was a burned out motor but watched a you tube vid and guess what, removed a bit of hair (mrs has very fine hair) and it was working fine again. Really impresses ´me how much punishment this unit has has with lego, string, hair, paper all being caught up with it telling you every time the problem (I am technical but many people are not) It's error messages have been clear. Power setting? I had no idea there was one! wow.
I am critical here but would definitely recommend this unit 3 years later. The parts are cheap and easy to find too.
This is a role model of how a company should look after their customers. Instead of FU new model, rake the cash in, there are parts that are cheap. I have not seen an equivalent power to price ratio battery anywhere even if I don't need one yet.

I bought a refurbished S5 I found online and I think even in 2020 it is an outstanding value. I cannot imagine the amount of engineering went into making this device. It is so precise and so intelligent and picks up so well.
I have quite literally half carpet half hardwood and it's just great.
Just fyi: a firmware update allows the regular S5 to get both room select and multifloor houses.
I have yet to test mopping but was one of the reasons I chose it over the S4 for the price and I plan to do a mop test tonight.
Thanks vacuumwars for your outstanding videos. When people come over they're like "nice Roomba" and I'm like "this is a Roborock, not a Roomba lol"... I've converted many friends to Roborock fans because it is just such a futuristic way in how it works and navigates. It is far superior to dumb bouncing robovacs and even my friend who has a roomba with a camera in it was very impressed by how quickly it navigates a d how well it works on both hard floors and carpet. Can't say enough about it.

i'll have it now for a bit more than a year,
it worked for more than 60hours, cleaned and more than 3200m2
the battery life is still great,
Full cleanup consists of 2 levels, downstairs for aprox 701m2, clean the dustbag, bring it upstair where it also cleans additional 85m2 without recharging. after that the battery is still on 30-40%
Usually use it for complete downstairs sweep and smaller jobs upstairs.
i was considering buying a second one for upstairs but i just bring it upstairs, start it and that's it.
The software is still updated by xiami, just had a firmware update on it.

Really happy with my unit 10 months in. I also have medium to short carpet. Issues are the following . setup involving WiFi or server issues..I pray I never have to set this up again. I’ve had to set it up twice over the last 10 months and each time takes 20-40 min messing with routers and international servers. The vacuum picks up a lot of hair and dust on carpet so I have to zone clean one room at a time to make sure it is properly cleaning the entire household. The “feeling” of the Vacuumed carpet is a “rougher”feeling vs using my normal traditional vacuum cleaner...but the convenience factor makes up for it. If guests are coming over I’ll break out the traditional vacuum to get that softer carpet feeling in high traffic areas. Sometimes the vacuum is glitchy when using the zone cleaning function. For example I’ll start a zone clean, and it will “finish” 1 minute later. I’ll have to start a full household clean, pause task, then start a zone clean again which corrects the issue. Also better app/Alexa support so I could just say “clean kitchen” instead of opening the app and setting zones. In the end, I’m still really satisfied...we had a baby this past year so this has been extremely helpful to help us keep the house clean!

I love my S5. A month ago I bought the S4, S5, Shark IQ, and the iRobot S9 plus. I wanted to see for myself which one I liked better. S9 plus worked great but no vacuum is with $1500 (with tax). Shark IQ could be #1 if they fix the software, LOVED the S4 but it had trouble climbing a threshold, LOVE the S5 so that’s the one I kept.. Dust bin is a little small but with my cat and vacuuming twice a day I still only empty it when I remember which is maybe every 5 days or so. The suction is strong so it compacts the cat hair

I use the S5 since 1 year, and I confirm what you said.
    I'd like to add :
    - the autonomy is basically infinite. In my 85m² house, I can vacuum in high mode, then mop 2 times (3h of cleaning) and it still has battery remaining.
    - the battery did not loose any capacity after 200h of cleaning
    - the wheels sometimes make high pitch noise
    - the robot sometimes miss a room, especially if the door was closed the last time it cleaned
    - when it catch a thing like a lace in the brushes or the wheels, it takes way too long to detect it. It happened to me a couple of times, and I destroyed 1 side brush this way. Fortunately, no internal damages at this point
    - as you mentionned, we do not get updates for the new software features. It's annoying, because cleaning by room is a feature that a lot of people need. It's annoying that this robot was already left aside by Roborock after a few months.
Overall, I'm very happy with this robot, and if I had to make a choice again, it would be the same.

Now I have used it for more than 400h (about 400 times cleaning the whole house in medium setting).
Except a few rare bugs (for example the robot don't want to clean at all for some reason, happened maybe 2 or 3 times), I had no issue at all with it. No failure, still using the original main brush, I only changed the side brush and the filter. It works really great, as long as you keep it clean (the app remind you when needed).
Vacuum robots are not perfect because you have to avoid letting stuff on the floor, and keep the doors opened. But if it doesn't bother you, I still totally recommend this one as it works great, looks nice, and the app is very useful.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and it has changed my household!
I used your reviews to help my decide what robot to purchase. In the UK it's harder to come by. I got mine for £322 from Amazon and it took less than a week to arrive.
I have used the mopping attachment and it's great. I love the no go lines and keep out zones and my only wish would be to be able to designate the rooms. My cat litter is in the bathroom and my cat flicks it out several times a day. Being able to send it to clean it is brilliant. I even did it once whilst I was in the shower so I didn't tread on it when I got out!
I use the zone clean to do the entire house and set it to clean 3 times. I do this daily and it takes an hour. Battery life is superb and it's never once forgotten where its dock is.
I have degenerative Osteoarthritis in my spine and knees and being able to get this to do the hard work is brilliant for my pain levels. All I have to do is get the Dyson V10 out once a week to do the stairs and living room rug (the S5 has difficulty climbing it at certain angles, so I use a keep out zone)
If you are thinking of buying this, don't hesitate just get one. They really are amazing!

The support is almost non existent, and it can be hard to get the original beater brushes ( The generic brushes hairs are cut too long) you will get a code thrown in the longer pile carpets until The new brush has wore down some. Other than that, its one of the best buys that I have ever made. Do not wash the filters they will wear out quickly if you do, Just tap the filters clean and they will last a very long time.

I have had mine for a few months and use it almost every day. I have not had many issues with the S5 at all. The one thing that I hate was a month or so ago, they updated the firmware. Before that if it didn't recognize the room it was in it on the map, it would start an all new map (great for me having a smaller upstairs) and once it was brought back to the dock, it would get the saved map back. Now if it doesn't recognize a room it just writes over or on top of the saved map with that being a mixed bag. Sometimes when upstairs, in the non saved map area, it's trying to avoid objects that are not there upstairs but are downstairs and sometimes its just fine. Now the upstairs just overwrites on the overlay of the downstairs map instead of starting a new area. Then it gets all confused and messed up sometimes when it vacuums downstairs because of the upstairs data in the map and I have to reset the map. But other times it seems to be fine and the map fully resets. That was not an update for the better

My living room rug is dark brown mixed with very light brown and the vacuum gets confused then gets stuck. I called the manufacturer and they suggested that I put white tape over the cliff sensors. I did but nothing improved so I made all rugs no go zones as the vacuum always gets stuck on them.

However, the huge deal breaker for me was that most of my house is medium pile carpet, and unfortunately the S5 would get stuck every 5-15 minutes with an error, which required manually restarting it. There was nothing in the main brush, and it seemed like it was just not meant at all for medium pile carpet. Which is super unfortunate since i loved everything else about this vacuum. I looked online and a good number of others had experienced this exact thing.I even tried different work-arounds, like clipping the brush a bit. Nothing worked! So I settled for a Coredy. Not super smart in pathing, but at least it doesn't jam on the medium carpet!

I just received my Roborock S5 and really happy with it so far. But I have one problem and that is my big black Carpet. I have read about it on the web and found out there is atm no solution for it to clean the carpets without tampering with the cliff sensors.
I have a really great idea that maybe you can help me push out to the community so the developers at Xiaomi will get to work and update the software with this feature.
I want them to add to the software a "Trusted location" that will override the cliff sensors and force the Roborock on to that area. Like we have the possibility to add a NoGo Zone.
Maybe it is a good thing for you to include in future testing aswell. The response I got from the Team at Xiaomi was that i "IR" sensors need light to bounce back to the sensors and black carpets may trigger the cliff sensors do to no light bouncing back.
And thx a lot for really good reviews and tests. Thx to you I decided to go for the S5 :)

Tech support suggested I send it back and get the S5 which has "carpet mode" and is designed for thicker carpet. I think you should mention this on your review. The S4 IS NOT an S5 without a mop. I've had this vacuum for just over a year now. It vacuums every day at 10 am. It has 289 hours on it and vacuumed 18,000 m2. It has operated perfectly for all of those hours. You can get new parts for it for really cheap (unlike my Dyson 😡). I have had to take it apart and fix it once but only because we accidentally let it into the shower too many times. Nothing was broken just a build up of dog hair and dust which the water then caked onto the motor inlet. Very easy to work on and replace parts which I'm glad so that I don't have to buy a new one every 2 years like other manufacturers would like. I give mine a 9 out of 10. I would love if they came out with a self emptying version.

@@BitCuration Yes that is the main point of the S5 Max, the improved mop with the no-mop zone software. You can actually do a no-mop zone on the S6 (although I never tried since I don't mop) by putting no go zones on the carpets and then just use that specific map while you mop (the S6 can store up to 3 maps).
I also own the 950 but I don't like it all. It emphasises too much data from its bumper ignoring its laser and IR scanner hence way too rough with the home. You can see that in the two 15 second clips below.
