i honestly think when people use the argument that andrew garfeilds spider-man is an irresponsible jerk its a dumb argument. At first in the tasm films peter is supposed to be a jerk because of progression. I honestly find it relatable when peter is a jerk because teenagers are not saints. They make mistakes and lash out at their loved ones like peter did with uncle ben. But peter changes during the bridge scene. He turns into the spider-man we all love. There's a really powerful moment when peter saves a kid and bring him back to his father. Even though he was wearing the mask you can tell he was feeling melancholy because he know he won't have this moment with the father figures peter had lost. people usally never talk about this which is sad because the first tasm film did so much right Thats when peter understood Ben's words. "with great power comes with great responsibility" I have no life lol.

Although the films arent great and the script was problematic, I don't think I would say Garfield was miscast as Spidey. He was just cast in the wrong spider-man franchise. When I see Peter in Spider-Man PS4, I see the most resemblances to Garfield. They are both more confident around their villains, but still stutter in front of the girl, the physicality in the suit is similar they appear taller and leaner than Holland/Maguire and they dont look traditionally nerdy but they both clearly are smart. I think Garfield could pull off an older and more experienced Spider-Man, and I think the amazing series should have gone in this direction.

I'm gonna focus on something I actually liked about Garfield's Spider-Man and ConfusedMatthew brought this up: He's truly a _neighborhood friendly_ Spiderman. He actually interacts with the citizens on a personal level and you can get some heartwarming moments. Like when he defends a little boy from some bullies and compliments his wind turbine, even offering to walk him home.
Or the boy he pulls out of the burning car. The way he gets him out of it is so much more intimate and inspired than Tobey's detached heroics. The city people are more like props than actual people.
Peter didn't really... _talk_ to the people he saved or build a real rapport with them like Andrew did. I'm just saying I liked his more sociable approach.

The Peter Parker of the Raimi movies was far, far more faithful to the character (in writing, acting and appearance) than in the Garfield movies. And note we call the earlier films "the Raimi movies" since they were distinctive in a way the direction in the latter movies were not.
As mentioned in the video, even Peter's use of humor was different. In the Stan Lee comics Parker typicallymocks bad guys as a stalling or misdirection tactic, while in a thought balloon he's thinking "I've got to keep him away from the generator, or he'll blow up the city!" Garfield's Peter rags on villians meanly for the heck of it, with no such tactical underside.

Did you know that in comics, the first reflex of Peter after having his powers was to rob a bank. He wanted to buy a car to impress a girl at school. He didnt do that because he didnt wanted his uncle and aunt to get in trouble. But after that he stated to doing catch and became a star because he participate at several show and interview. Peter was a nerd who was angry and didnt have one single friend at school ( he only meet Harry Osborn at university). He thought that because the world hasnt been kind to him he didnt have to be a hero. But you know what happen next: the death of uncle Ben. Im writing all this because Im a fan of the comics of Spider man and Im tired of seeing people saying " yeah Andrew Garfield is a lame Peter Parker with his big ego". If you know the real Spider man and not only seen the movies and a few cartoon you know that he is more than a decent Peter Parker.

This is where his uncle's wise words come in "with great power, comes great responsibility"

I still caught nerdy vibes from him early on, doing research online and spending so much time on his PC.
I still agree on him not looking unpopular though. I believe it wasn't Andrew's fault. He's a great actor and played his part well, but the fault should've fall on the writers and Marc Webb. Just as mentioned, many scenes could've been done so much better if the direction was better or different (Marc Webb), and the fact that he was kind of smug and let Rhino destroy an entire street shows that it was the writers.
Andrew had so much potential, but the Writers and director did him dirty, and it's so unfortunate that his dream of being Spiderman did come true but being a great Spiderman didn't.
Sony should do a deal with Disney that they're able to use Andrew as Spiderman but claim that it's a different dimension, or do a different take on Peter Parker (like Noir, Assassin, Clones, Superior, etc.)

I once fell asleep after drinking a half pot of coffee, and just after waking up from a full nights rest, while watching the newest movie. Just painfully boring and poorly acted. Acting feels like a throwback to Tim Burton Batman years with how dialed in it is and how cheesy it comes off. They said it was easier and faster to make another origin story than a sequel to the Raimi movies, even if that meant another spider bite and watching uncle Ben death again; for me that means they took the only unused script for the first Spider-Man that didn't featured an already used villain and started filming.
Also, uncle Ben and Wen Stacy were supposed to be innocent victims, not morons with a death wish.

I think part of the problem is Sony chose to make the Amazing Spider-Man movies tonally and stylistically similar to "Ultimate Spider-Man" which was the main spider-man comic Marvel published throughout the 2000's. That's not to say Ultimate Spider-Man is a bad adaptation of the story or character, but it was departure from a lot of the "classic" traits and tropes that people are familiar with and typically associate with the character... factors such as portraying Peter Parker not so much as a lovable dork as kind of a "cool, techy kid" that kids bullied on occasion, or having a deeper and more prioritized relationship with Gwen Stacy as opposed to Mary Jane.
Ultimate Spider-Man was one of many reinventions of the character, and on its own has merit, but I don't think it was a wise decision to draw inspiration from it for the movie version of the character. Ultimate Spider-Man just always lacked some of that friendliness that we all recognize in our friendly neighborhood spider-man, and the Amazing Spider-Man movies similarly have the same issue.

Throughout Homecoming, he doesn't adapt to learning how to beat his foes. Even after settling down to learn the ends and outs of his suit, he still didn't think things through when fighting Vulture or the ship part which lead to him losing the suit, though it shows Tony's hipocrisy. He didn't learn anything after he beat Vulture, he didn't learn to be more patient nor how to use his opponent's weakness to his advantage.
Infinity War just had him put on his mask infront of traffic and on a bus with cameras. He didn't listen to Tony when he was told to stay earth or else he would be in danger, though he was able to help.

    • @creepermineh
      @creepermineh Před 5 lety +1

@@mandalorianhunter1 okay, I see what you mean but on the infinity war, not listening to Tony is what makes his character ideal. Peter has or is supposed to have a huge sense of responsibility. Peter Parker would never settle to stay.
However, homecoming does ignore the concept a lot until the final scenes. He doesn't feel guilty or any responsibility to much of any of his mistakes.
Heck, for his debut in civil war being 6 months ( I think it was) and to maybe the weeks to homecoming, we never see him reflect back to Uncle Ben.
Even though all the other versions didn't, you can see that Maguire's Spidey did keep the sense of responsibility of his uncle, you can even see some resentment in the second movie and first.
Andrew's Spidey did reflect spidey's sense of guilt better, showcased in the Capt. Stacy dying, Curtis Connor and Uncle Ben.
Although, Holland's Peter does represent his age in innocence. No kid really learns the value of their elder's words until a major screw up so Peter may still be finding that meaning to his uncle's phrase. However, we never really see him pondering or have a call back to his uncle. Even the worries of his aunt flipping don't feel like it's worry for her but worry to be prohibited to wear the suit.
Maybe we will expand and explore more of this aspects in the "far from home" movie but yeah, those are my cents
Also, watcha breakdown video of the fight between doc Ock and Spiderman in Spiderman 2. You will see Toby's Spiderman did learn from his battles far better than even Andrew's.

    • @mandalorianhunter1
      @mandalorianhunter1 Před 5 lety

@@creepermineh That is not really a sense of responsibility as much as it is him making it a point that if the universe ends or his neighborhood is destroyed then what's the point of him being a hero.
I want this because I read the Ultimate comics sense middle school, but I didn't read volume 2 until 2009. In that volume, he tries to go up against kingpin without thinking and he ends up beaten where his idenitity is revealed, but they didn't know who he was so they couldn't do much. Once Peter learned that he shouldn't stop using his brain which lead to him defeating The enforcers, Electro, escaping Kingpin and exposing him to the world.
Also I think you meant Civil War lol and yeah that's what I gathered from the movie. Yeah I watched the train sequence anaylsis video and I agree. I love all the Spidey's and I can't wait for Far From Home, can't wait to see Peter and Fury build a relationship together.

Yeah I meant civil war lol xD
And yeah, I mean, the argument does hold truth. You can't be a hero of a destroyed town. But I feel he also did it out of a sense of responsibility, to contribute to the prevention of extinction than just be a little cure (which he wouldn't have been since he was meant to go poof either way) by helping the locals. He wanted to be an asset since he had power hence the responsibility
But it is true, Tom's Spidey still feels fresh and not committed for the right reasons, atleast to me. But he is just starting out and like his ultimate counterpart, he is still at that point of innocence and just exploring the fun aspects of his powers.
Maybe...he is still learning to cope with Ben's death hence his lack of reflection and constant avoidance of regular responsibilities and just having fun with his powers while hopefully doing good.
It's been only 7 months since someone so close to him died. Maybe he is just coping wrongly and we will see him come to the realization he needs to be be better from the trauma of infinity war

I have to disagree with a lot of your points for TASM 1. Although I think TASM 2 had problems, it was anything but ruining his character.
As for your point of TASM, Peter acting awkward and nervous only appears when he interacts with Gwen atleast, and those were the only times we see Peter placed in situations that makes him awkward. So I don't think it's far to judge that he wasn't awkward enough just cuz we haven't seen enough when we did see him with said portrayal. Also, I actually don't understand how his smug assholish attitude develop overtime, when that literally dies off after Peter finally realises the power of responbility and becomes spiderman post the bridge rescue scene. The basketball scene and the scene with the car thief, aren't moment when Peter finally becomes the hero we know. So his smug attitude makes sense. The way he abuses his power for his selfish needs that's what Pete needed to understand to embody the concept of responsibility.
Similarly, in TASM2, we see him giving up the love of his life. Even tho it's contrary to what both want for themselves. And Peter "stalking" Gwen whether he was only making sure she is safe or he wanted to see him is only human. I understand that back and forth, but who wouldn't when there's two people who is madly in love with each other. Sadly, took gwen to fall to her death to understand the stakes of his action. These are the reasons why I love TASMverse is where they tell stories of a character that is flawed and human and only tries to do the best he can and learns from them. That's what spiderman stories should do, is to teach us audience and the character the concept of "responsibility" and the stakes one should bare. But for that to happen, Peter should make mistakes, should be selfish, be the embodiment of his own conflict... cuz otherwise how would the character grow and learn.
