Tbh I know i can't be the only person who observed that the bucks never really looked like how they were expected. With jrue as great as he is defensively his offense was head scratching nearly every game I caught, Middleton as well very inconsistent and definitely not the best pair for giannis. The main reason for their success was giannis's goat conversation potential. The coaching was bad, they played below their talent level. No way the nets should have took them to 7 games with the players they had active for example. Miami heat should not be able to beat them like they do.
They play Lillard with Malik Beasley together a lot, which means you have two sieves on the floor instead of one. I wonder if they trade for someone like Caruso or Matisse Thybulle.
While I agree that they have problems saying they are the only team with personal issues is a incredibly disingenuous statement. Most contenders this year have pretty glaring holes in their lineups outside of their stars, the Nuggets, 76ers, and especially the Celtics who almost lost to the worst team in league history almost solely due to their historically bad bench. But with Milwaukee it’s important to remember that defense can only take you so far before you have to score and as good as Jrue was in regular season he was always a negative in the playoffs. He routinely regresses heavily on defense and becomes an absolute black hole on offense. Another reason why I’m worried about the Celtics, but instead of exposes the Bucks it’s more of the same, let’s see how a one way team fares in the playoffs
if the bucks are a championship or bust team hopefully they aspire to be one. no team in the last 40 years has won a championship with a rating similar to the 2023 bucks. only the lakers in 2001 had crappier def rating - more do with injuries. if anyone thinks the current roster has a prime Kobe and Shaq combo then yeah bucks have a chance to win, but lets get real here.
The 76ers don't have a big glaring hole, the only one is that they are starting deanthony melton. They can fix that in the trade deadline by trading for a creator
Celtics historically bad bench? Maybe once you get to the 9-15 guys who never play on any team, but Horford is solid, Hauser is the best shooter off the bench in the league, Pritchard is a good shooter, and Kornet/Queta are good enough to fill in the 3rd big role. Oh no, they won in OT against the pistons who were playing like they were under a microscope being watched by the whole world for losing while the Celtics probably barely looked at the scouting report and still won. I'm not a 76ers fan but they don't have a glaring weakness either now that harden is gone and that fixed up their depth a bit.
The problem isn't the stars, the problem is the starting lineup. Denver, the Sixers and the Celtics don't have problems on their STARTING lineup. The Bucks have AND have a bad bench.
I think Dame is in his own head. He knows nothing but being the main guy in a team like the trailblazers. Adapting to a new team must be hard especially after playing the same role in the same environment for that many years. But it must be even worse when you let it get in your head. Secondly, Dame just doesn't have defensive awareness. His defensive reactions are either so delayed or non-existent at all. You can't be doing that in the East. And maybe it's just me but he seems intimidated by Giannis.
If they can improve the defense a bit, I think theyll be fine. it's gonna be tough to match the firepower they have in the half court offense which is key when the game is so slowed down in the post season. Dame is capable of hitting 15 3s at any given moment and Giannis is capable of giving you a 18/20 from the field and 60 points on any given Tuesday.
Two things on Dame- he turns the ball over too much, currently. He’s also going through a divorce still. Which (just happened to me) can be mentally taxing. We shall see
The Bucks didn't get exposed.. This was expected, and even the winning isn't a suprise. Defense has become an afterthought, on top of defenders playing on eggshells. Defenders cant even get thebgreenlight to play defense for a full game, as so manybplayer get called for fouls wirh thier hands up. The NBA regular season has become all entertainment.
Exposed how? They're 2nd seed in the east... if this is them figuring thing out shouldn't it be more scary than anything? and if their defense so bad why it didn't reflect on their record? just a thought
the buck need to trade for players like gary harris, alex caruso, matisse thybulle, royce oneal or sign javonte greeen but we know that front office need to make moves, edit: majon needs more minutes plus bench brook at the need of these games, an is a walking target
It's not the first time, anyone who thinks this team has a chance past 2nd round is delulu. Coaching is trash Btw dame should've demanded Miami and only Miami, this trade made everyone weaker and celtics stronger
I will provide some push back. If you at their defensive numbers from Nov 3rd on, post blowout from the raptors/when they switched back to drop defense, they are relatively middle of the pack at around 13th defensively I believe. All what you said is true about their POA and wing defense, but its not nearly as bad its presented here. Also saying bottom 10 team defensively is such a sly way of attacking their defense when they were 20th. If they were 19th, how would you have worded that? The narrative around the bucks feels so decpetive, but when other good teams play bad, like the Nuggets, Sixers, even Celtics, they dont get criticized nearly as hard.
Patrick Beverley made a point on his show about how defensive players get paid less because they don't put up the offensive numbers, and if their agents are smart, in the next contract negotiations for their Defensive specialist they should point to the fact that if this team doesn't win in the Finals it's gonna be because of the lack of perimeter defense regardless of the amount off offense they had. And it's not like these defensive players are 1 and done guys, they're 10-15 year career guys, essential parts of championship teams. Look at Mitchell Robinson going down for the Knicks, from a top 5 defense to bottom 5 defense overnight due to one guy, the other way around is worth a lot more money.
The Pacers were hunting Malik Beasley last night. Whomever he was guarding was taking advantage of him on the defensive end. They arent legit contenders and being a Pacers fan, I hope they draw the Bucks in the first round. Giannias taking another early vacation this season.
Dame and Giannis are fine will be better as time goes on but the problem is the 2 you need someobody to play defense alongside dame to make up for some of him deficiency’s just like klay was for steph
Facts but are the bucks smart enough to see that 🤷🏽♂️ Cuz Marjon could play the 2 but his shooting is questionable And I don’t think the bucks will make a trade because they have the “second seed” so idk
I agree with you like everyone was mad a gobert but it was mostly the perimeter defense that was to blame also who do you think the bucks should get to help. I think herb jones cause their offence it set
Kris middleton pre injury was also good on defence, but it seems he lost a bit and if you rely on him to be your go to wing/perimeter defender you're not gonna be a good defence.
I don't even think we have enough for that like surely someone has a better offer than anything we have to offer ! But agreed it is the trade that's needed !
They should trade for Caruso, or even a Vanderbilt type who isn’t fitting well with the Lakers system. Bucks clearly don’t need offensive output at all from whoever they get, they’ve got that covered obviously from Giannis, Dame, Middleton and even Lopez can put up big numbers these days
@@Paul_ppI think they have a few piece to trade just depends who and then if you’re able to keep Beasley then put him on the bench and he’ll strive in that role
Not expecting a chip this year, defense simply isnt there. Is there a chance yes, but realistically we need to pick up some guys that can help with that problem.
Its ceayz you wanna point out dam eplaying a career high in minutes without mentioning dame essentially play his carrer low minutes. I hope the bucks can make some extra moves before the deadline but if not i am not worried.
When the trade happened I said they would be a 2nd round exit and everyone called me a delusional hater (I’m a blazers fan who literally wept when the trade demand came)
Yeah as soon as the trade details came out and I saw we gave up Jrue AND Grayson Allen, I knew we basically nullified any improvement and we will likely be in the same spot we were in last year come postseason
You actually didn't know, and you still don't. It is okay, not everyone can be an NBA coach but NBA fans(especially this channel) all try. Imagine playing defense in the regular season, imagine not being able to discern the difference between reg season and playoff basketball. Imagine thinking, like coach Bud, that you could play hard D for 82 games then have a healthy squad to put on the floor. Imagine showing the league your best every game so they can adjust when it counts. Entire video is a casual's ignorant take.
Brook Lopez is such a fake good defender. He’s Roy Hibert with a 3pt shot(and good post moves) his defense is terrible other than his ability to block a lot of shots. He’s maybe the slowest guy in the league. There’s a reason modern big men aren’t like Roy or Yao, it’s more like Claxton Bam Wendell Oneyeka, guys who might not block tons of shots but can move their feet and make up ground. Brook forces the drop defense to be played. With that said if you have a backup option I think Brook can still be a good asset. The problem is the bucks run these weird lineups where they run Giannis at the 5 which is great but then have Bobby who try’s hard but also doesn’t have great lateral movement. Then you have Dam Khris Beasley Payne all slow footed guys who can’t defend. A serviceable Swiss Army knife backup tall wing like Jon Isaac Vanderbilt Jalen McDaniels or DFS would help this team dramatically. Especially when Jae comes back the closing lineup against the pacers for example could be Dame Khris Jae Isaac(or anyone listed above) and Giannis all guys who yes Tyrese can still exploit but not to the same degree as Brook or Bobby.
They could just trade for perimeter defenders like Kris Dunn, Delon wright, Royce o’neal or Gary Harris, but otherwise the bucks are not title contenders with a 20th ranked defensive rating.
Funny facts about this: Adrian Griffin was consistently said to be a Defensive minded and specialist coach when they brought him in. Clearly, he's far from that. Second: This further proves what I've always noted as a Blazers fan - Damian Lillard is ATROCIOUS defensively, and has NOT "consistently made progress defensively each year" as countless people kept demanding was true. He's not CJ MCCollum, Ant Simons and Trey Young horrific, but he's still blatantly one of the worst defenders in the league. Outside of those two funny realities, you confuse me hard with the "totally different roster" narrative. Milwaukee hasn't experience almost any changes to their roster outside of losing Jrue and Grayson Allen. That's really all the lost that were key parts of their rotations. Otherwise they have essentially the exact same roster now as last season. So that is far from a honest claim, as it is simply untrue. And Kris Middleton, Jae Crowder and Brook Lopez are all there primarily for defense, as well as of course to contribute via spot up/catch and shoot threes. Malik Beasley ironically enough has been considered by most to be a pretty solid rotational shooter with a fairly consistent decent defensive ability on the perimeter. So I assume either that assumption is not true about Malik, or, he's having a really off year defensively compared with his normal play. And I think with Kris, Jae and Brook, their injuries, and down defensive years so far I believe likely are more a result of age catching up to them than anything. I really think they're just beginning to physically regress, slowing down noticeably. I do find it rather hilarious that Adrian originally had Terry Stotts on as his lead assistant, and though he left, somehow Adrian has managed to achieve Terry Stotts levels of atrocious team defense lol. Terry didn't even have to contribute! Imagine if he was still there, my god how much worse would they likely be defensively?
I meant, tbh literally 'EVERY TEAM' need someone like Alex Caruso. Ive literally seen this guy stopping 2vs1 Fast-breaks himself without fouling either player.
@@jasez8812 Good point. I’m a huge Dame guy, but him and Malik Beasley were comically bad on defense in a few games I watched, so Milwaukee is lacking exactly that skillset even more than any other team, i think, it could elevate them so much
Even Giannis and Brook Lopez can't protect the rim on a regular basis if their guards are getting constantly pooped on on D. Dame is phenomenal on offense but on D he is terrible...Trae Young level of terrible. He desperately needs a bigger guard that is above average on D. 24-9 is a fine record for any contender and throughout the regular season it's all gonna be fine. But in the playoffs you are getting cooked every game...Guys like Brunson, Haliburton or Maxey destroy your perimeter defense and average 30 PPG. You basically need Dame and Giannis to ball out of their mind on O every game and a third consistant scorer every game...not convinced they have a good coach either to come up with a good gameplan either.
I told bucks fans that I know getting rid of Jrue and even Grayson Allen was gonna hurt their defensive identity. But nooo Dame’s scoring is all they thought they needed😂
Ok, saying that the offense is doing more in the reg szn because Giannis play 2 more minutes is laughable. I use to respect this channel but now I realize how big of a casual he actually is. The things Giannis is doing this year are less taxing on his body because everything is made easier for him by Damian Lillard. I also found it really funny how he said that the other teams issues were because of injuries, when he said earlier in the video waiting on Jae Crowder to come back isn't good. Why do they get the injury excuse but not us? This guy doesn't watch the Bucks at all. I'm done lol. It's so stupid.
I get your points but he’s not wrong about the Jae Crowder thing. Other teams may be missing enough to hamper them defensively but Jae Crowder is not going to come back and magically fix their defensive woes so they shouldn’t wait on him
@@nishkirisaki451 I would agree, but he is completely overexaggerating the defensive woes. IN THEIR LAST 10 GAMES: Bucks Defensive Rating- 114.9 Celtics Defensive Rating- 114.4 Dame Defensive Rating- 117.0 Jrue Defensive Rating- 116.9 The highlights of the perimeter defense can look bad, but they don't happen all that often. The main team they have struggled against defensively is the Pacers, and they're statistically the greatest offense of all time. There's no shame in them scoring on the Bucks. The main reason I brought Jae Crowder up was because earlier in the season when he was healthy, he was closing games instead of Beasley. Our defense in the clutch of those games was amazing, and part of it was because of Jae Crowder. The other reason it was better is simply because of effort, it was at the max because it was crunch time and it will also be if it's the playoffs.
The Pacers "can't guard". From midway through the 3rd quarter on, the Pacers defended very well. They shut Lillard down and had Giannis frustrated. I don't think that the Bucks can't guard. It is early in the season and everyone is still figuring things out. The Pacers or the Heat will knock the Bucks out in the playoffs though because they have more talent. The Pacers lead the series 3-1 against the Bucks. The Pacers can beat the Celtics too as they did in the tournament. The Heat and Pacers are very dangerous this season so look out for the little guy.
They perticularly cant defend teams with elite guards that can spread the floor well. Even when they had Jrue they always had problems with Mavs and Luka for example, despite mavs having a relativly talentless team, but they could just send 5 out and let Luka cook when Brook and Giannis cant just sit under the basket and wait. Now with Dame, being a real liability on defense, this problem just gets so glaring. On a side note, I think this justifies me saying that giannis is nowhere near DPOY level player and never was. Great defender but far from what should be concidered DPOY. His impact just isnt all that on that end, it never was, even statisticaly. Jrue and Lopez were the most important defensive pieces even under Bud. He is just massive, strong and mobile and people just assume he must be some mix of prime Kawhii and AD which he is just not, not on switches nor rim protection.
ye dame was a bad trade. i would now rather malcom brogdan A trade based on this makes the bucks a true contrender favourite Bucks get: Brogdan and Demar Derozan Bulls get: Dame Blazers get: Thats my dream but: Khris and Jae get healthy and then pick up the defense theyll be alright. could try bobby at the 5 see how that works but they do need some defense on the bench
Literally unguardable 2 deadly midrange kings with size brogdan quick and good decision on the ball and then giannis and brook legit 5 legit offense powered players and that could play defense and then get back jevon carter
Can we finally put to bed the Giannis is a good defender argument? Because he’s terrible on defense and it’s why him and Embiid are in comparable as Biid automatically anchors you a top 3 defense by his presence alone. Same thing with Bron in his prime.
Drew Holliday is a great defender but he gets exposed in the playoffs because he’s only 65. He goes up against guys that are 66 67 68 69 and they just shoot over him. Keep sleeping on us. We were in top 10 in defense last month.
I don't wanna hear anything about Bucks being terribly on defense. People forgot that the Bucks loss to Heat last season because they could not close the game. No matter how good they play defense they will not win a championship this year if they keep Holiday. So I think the Bucks are better now than last year and have a better chance winning it all this year even if they don't play defense.
For people to have the eye test, they actually have to watch Bucks basketball and most people don’t watch the bucks. I think my team has been doing well. Yes, our defense can do better but you guys put too much emphasis on that. They’re still learning each other. And saying that our guards can’t guard at all is just false they’re just really inconsistent. I don’t agree with this take. You have to give it time. And pat needs to go
Either your lying about watching or you just don’t understand what your seeing they are def bad defenders Malik Beasley and Dame be getting cooked on the perimeter And The offense ain’t good enough to save that bad defense
@@Magproductions98 we are second in the east and I didn’t say my teams defense couldn’t be better. But it’s Been getting better slowly but improving is improving. Not a top tier contender with the third best record in the league? Yes, they need some adjustments, but what team in the league doesn't? The trade season just started and we're all really that worried about Milwaukee finding one guy to play defense? Chill tf out bro.
The thing is we are talking about teams like the nuggets Celtic are they with them all other teams aren’t even good teams most of them are mid Wolves aren’t mid but there not there yet imo Bucks of course will make the ecf since every other team beside the Celtic and bucks are straight up garbage
@sulwhale3171 I just think it's a bit early to be talking about a team of this quality so harshly. We're not even halfway through the season, and the Bucks have already found their stride; look how far they've come in one month ffs. Not to mention, their problems are very minor compared to some other teams this season. Bulls, Pistons and Warriors all look poised to blow their teams up, and we're acting like Bucks have already missed their window to find 1-2 role players.
Giannis usage rate is down this year. Your while they are deppending on Giannis to much this years fails flat. Bucks defensive scheme needs to improve, their on ball defenders ain't bigs / fast / strong enough to Navigate screens with Brook in the paint chilling. Using Giannis as a help roammer safetynet ain't gonna cover all the defensive problems. The might need to use Giannis more on D and leave Malik or Dame on help rotations.
see? dont ever make any typa compliment where dame is the team. everytime dame got complimented, he just went high never return to earth again. man dame u literally divorce with your wife. at least shoot efficient man if u just chuckin up shots like that, u will be remembered as the guy who won the chip by chuckin up shots.
One thing this video is missing is that the Bucks have two young wing 3 and D guys who are developing as we go here. Lillard is what we knew he was on both ends but the growth of Beauchamp and Jackson will decide the ceiling of this team... unless they are able to swing for more experienced wings at the deadline.
IN THEIR LAST 10 GAMES: Bucks Defensive Rating- 114.9 Celtics Defensive Rating- 114.4 Dame Defensive Rating- 117.0 Jrue Defensive Rating- 116.9 This narrative is actually getting so old, and people also need to realize a huge part of their defense is Jae Crowder. Another part of the issue is effort, and that granted needs to be fixed, but part of what made them so much different in the clutch for part of their season is that their effort went up. In the playoffs the effort should be 100% at all times. Not to mention offensively they definitely have a case that at their peak, they are the greatest offensive team of all time. The main thing that went wrong in that Pacers game is that guys who normally hit open shots weren't, and that's fine it's ONE game. The bench was not good but they should improve with Jae Crowder back, and if they can hit a shot to save their lives. This Bucks team is an offensive-oriented one this year, and it's different then what it usually is but that's ok. They are improving to becoming an average defensive team, but everyone outside of Bucks fans are ignoring that and only looking at highlights of "Malik Beasley's controller dying in game." I think that this Bucks team when at their peak offensively, is borderline unstoppable.
@@wilderac2250 One game dame didn't play. IST game we lost because of Dame's struggles offensively, and the same for the most recent game + the poor bench performance. The pacers are the best offensive team in the league statistically, most teams can't guard them, and it's not like the Bucks played the worst defense ever. They played league average defense, but the Pacers are a great offensive team, slowing them down is not an easy task. The Bucks (Dame especially) just weren't on the top of their game offensively when we lost. The hate the Bucks get for absolutely no reason is criminal.
it's a weird to call it the most glaring flaw, we all knew they were giving up some defense for stronger offense with the Dame trade, Dame jus needs to pump out a bit more like their intention and so far they're doing a great job adapting him into the team
I just wanna start 2024 saying some very hot take things. 1. Dame legit went there and eyes wise, fell off. Had he went to the Heat he would legit be the talk of the NBA rn. He likely wouldn't of won a chip on either team, but atleast he wouldn't be wasting away AGAIN. 2. Giannis while high in the MVP race, himself has become less talked about aswell. The bucks sadly can't and won't win. Giannis should of never resigned.
I didn't say there a bad team or anything. Nor did I say there not successful. The opposite 😂😂. I said there wasting away on that small market team. Simply said the team as a whole is such a small market that they don't get talked about. Plus they won't win a chip. it's a legit repeat of the bucks before Giannis carried them to a ring.
Yeah... this is a bad take. Wasting away as the 2nd seed just three wins behind the Celtics? Yes, they need some adjustments but if Dame's Bucks are bad, Jokic's Nuggets are horrendous and that's clearly not the case.

We shall see
Personally I think this has a lot to do with their new coach not being as defensive minded as the last coach.

@SL Breakdown What do you think of this trade scenario, trade Khris Middleton and Cam Payne for Draymond Green and Gary Payton II

Their perimeter guys can't guard at all
Brook Lopez is such a fake good defender.
Hear me out, when giannis is play of mode we’ll if you keep the same energy
Dame, and Giannis timeline don't mix well
Bucks may end up having to rebuild without Giannis

Bucks are quite literally 24-9
I told bucks fans that I know getting rid of Jrue and even Grayson Allen was gonna hurt their defensive identity. But nooo Dame’s scoring is all they thought they needed😂
Can we talk about PHX and Bol Bol and how they beat two of the top 10 defenses… please put some respect on PHX name
IN THEIR LAST 10 GAMES:
Bucks Defensive Rating- 114.9
Celtics Defensive Rating- 114.4
Dame Defensive Rating- 117.0
Jrue Defensive Rating- 116.9
The highlights of the perimeter defense can look bad, but they don't happen all that often.
More importantly than Defense. Their Half court offense is the best in the East
Everyone hates on the bucks but when we win it all I want apologize
What's saving the bucks is Giannis
Somehow Boston won this Dame saga.
they aren’t deep enough, middleton is getting older. dame is a upgrade on offense but doesn’t make up for his defense
He is just massive, strong and mobile and people just assume he must be some mix of prime Kawhii and AD which he is just not, not on switches nor rim protection.
ye dame was a bad trade. i would now rather malcom brogdan
A trade based on this makes the bucks a true contrender favourite
Bucks get: Brogdan and Demar Derozan
Bulls get: Dame
Blazers get:
Thats my dream but:
Khris and Jae get healthy and then pick up the defense theyll be alright.
could try bobby at the 5 see how that works but they do need some defense on the bench
Literally unguardable 2 deadly midrange kings with size brogdan quick and good decision on the ball and then giannis and brook legit 5 legit offense powered players and that could play defense and then get back jevon carter
Trade for Marcus smart Alex cauruso, Dorian Finally smith, or Andrew Wiggins
Isn't it early to say this? Or you are certain th Bucks have 0% chance to change this?
Can we finally put to bed the Giannis is a good defender argument? Because he’s terrible on defense and it’s why him and Embiid are in comparable as Biid automatically anchors you a top 3 defense by his presence alone. Same thing with Bron in his prime.
Drew Holliday is a great defender but he gets exposed in the playoffs because he’s only 65. He goes up against guys that are 66 67 68 69 and they just shoot over him. Keep sleeping on us. We were in top 10 in defense last month.
They’ve played like 90% of their games at home 😂😂😂😂 exposure is on the way
I don't wanna hear anything about Bucks being terribly on defense. People forgot that the Bucks loss to Heat last season because they could not close the game. No matter how good they play defense they will not win a championship this year if they keep Holiday. So I think the Bucks are better now than last year and have a better chance winning it all this year even if they don't play defense.

Dame doesn’t look right in a bucks jersey
For people to have the eye test, they actually have to watch Bucks basketball and most people don’t watch the bucks. I think my team has been doing well.

This narrative is actually getting so old, and people also need to realize a huge part of their defense is Jae Crowder.
Bucks lost to the pacers 3 times out of four so far this season. All three times were because of similar reasons
@@wilderac2250 One game dame didn't play. IST game we lost because of Dame's struggles offensively, and the same for the most recent game + the poor bench performance. They played league average defense, but the Pacers are a great offensive team, slowing them down is not an easy task.
