If you're a mid team and you have to rest your best player, it often means you will lose the game.
If you're a mid team and you have to rest your main supporting players, it often means you will lose the game.
So the best option is resting everybody at the same time and losing only one game instead of 2.

@@6ftstick Sure this is a valid take. My only issue with this is that it has to be stated ahead of time. If you're a fan, who like me, doesn't make a lot of money. Then buying a ticket to an NBA game, only to have EVERYONE SIT, is disgusting.
The issue then is that if you say it ahead of time, what's stopping the other team from resting most of there players?
I bought a single ticket to an NBA game last year because I'm poor. Only to have all the stars I want to see sit, even though I had tried to buy a ticket to dodge this, it wasn't a back to back, it was just 'near' the end of the year. Being like a full month out from play offs. I probably won't buy tickets ever again. Well, unless I become rich.

The main Problem is that back to backs exit, they are not good for anyone, not the players, not the fans and not the League. Just finally shorten the ridiculously long off-season, start the season in early September and stretch out the games to eliminate back to backs. That is good for everyone, less injuries for the players, more national tv slots for the League. Even if you start the season in september most teams still have 5 Months!!! off-season, which is absolutely ridiculous if you compare that to any other sport outside of the US.

Why is the off season considered long? NFL off season is over double that, and MLB off season is also a bit longer than the NBA.

As someone who really got into basketball during the pandemic, and came from watching football/soccer, the NBA has too many games. Based on quick google searches and calculations, NBA players cover around 2 miles per game, while a Premier League player covers around 5. But the NBA plays 82 games, often back-to-back while the Premier League plays 38 games and maximum two games a week, most often 1. According to my quick calculations they end up covering around the same amount of distance, but the NBA players are doing it with less rest, and much more intensely while jumping, turning quickly, etc much more often than in football. The stress on their bodies must be huge, NBA “iron men” are superhuman. And this isn’t even taking in to account the fact that having 82 games means that some will become unimportant, which is why they rest. My two cents are that they should shorten the season to around 60-70, maybe have everyone play each other twice while having the teams from the same division play each other 3 times? Also making divisions actually matter again with some kind of incentive to actually win them plus the IST would be a great step to not make the regular season feel like one long boring session of waiting for the playoffs to start

    So. What.
Coach’s Decision. The Team Manager. Who is paid to make these decisions.
There are no laws that protect bettors or rules that state ticket buyers are guaranteed to see starters for 25minutes. This is actually great strategy because if Nets were to see Bucks in the Playoffs then they would have as many reps to learn them at full strength & also builds up your bench getting them reps, who as we see were holding their own. The Nets are in great shape and are sleepers in the East; highly doubt they are throwing games for any feasible reason. All of this could have been said in 2 sentences, like this video could have been wrapped up in 2 minutes. 🤷🏿‍♂️

One: the NBA management team that insures the fans get a well deserved spectacle form players and
Two: the coaching staff which it's main job is to make sure that they have the best chances of fulfilling the team's goals, may it be get to the playoffs or go late in the playoffs or win it all.
Clearly the coaching staff was in it for the long run by making sure there players are healthy. Sure that's a lot of players out but if that's what they thought was necessary for the team, well I guess go for it.
Now as for the NBA management, this definitely didn't look good for the fans and viewers but we have to separate what the job description is.

The NBA is broken now. Guys used to strive to play every game and even used to play 3 games back to back. The players now are not only soft and prima donnas but teams and players are more concerned with ways to game the system in order to win a championship than just going all out and playing. We see this with the Superteams and load management as well as other strategies of this era. Standards have been lowered, the product suffers and the fans suffer.

Add in the fact that honestly most of the games end up being pretty inconsequential plus the reality that the only thing teams care for is the playoffs and you've got a recipe for uncompetitive uninteresting games that present a lot of risk to players and teams with little upside.

I remember paying to see a game and the player I most wanted to see play wasn't playing that night. That kinda sucked. It would have sucked slightly more if the rest of the best players didn't play.
While you can call what the Nets did here anti-competitive, I don't think it's anti-competitive. It actually could be a good competitive strategy. Any of the following benefits accrue from this tactic: best players get needed rest, player development for bench players, confuse the opponent as they have probably not game planned for playing bench players.
There are probably more strategic and/or tactical reasons for doing this.
But if I paid to see (in person) NBA players play and instead saw this.....yeah I'd be more than disappointed.....

82 games is too many games. If every team plays each other 2 times in the regular season, that’s 58 games. There you go, 58 games. That’s the right amount of games and I can guarantee less stars will load manage.

Good video, but the NBA needs to but out. The solution to this is to create a bigger incentive to play well for every reg season game - e.g. make the reg season shorter, or penalize teams that are below a certain spot/wins. All these rules about player ineligibility/fines are just non-effective because they are missing the point - if you are an 11 seed or below today, you have no incentive to win, even if you are in the play in you will lose in the first round. In every sport but in USA, the worst teams are relegated. In america, trams are rewarded by getting better odds to a potential superstar
