      He’s definitely not the worse…there are players with worse stats/efficiency that receive more mins of playing time than him…at best he’d either be out of the league, g-league, or on a minimum contract like a 10-day or 1/2 year. All would depend on what team he’s on. He can still be a contributor despite his age. Loads of opportunities as well as more playing time for 3 and D type of players. He’d have to aggressively work on that 3 point shot…but with his brother being Giannas there’s really no incentive to compete/get better.

    Thanasis is just perfect for his role: the 15th man. All end-of-bench players suck and can’t play in the NBA. Which is why they are end-of-bench guys.
    So why are they there? One of two reasons: maybe it’s a young player and they could develop into a rotation player or a vet presence.
    Thanasis is undoubtedly a positive vet presence. Everyone in the Bucks coaching staff (past and present) praise his work ethic, giving advice two younglings, and always going 100% during practice.
    Brook Lopez said that Thanasis single-handedly kept the team together during the pandemic, and that he kept Giannis from ever doing anything that could possibly put him at risk of being COVID-positive and missing a game during their championship run. Not only that, the guy refused to leave his car in the freaking parade to make sure he wouldn’t make anyone sick because he was COVID-positive during the finals.
    His teammates love him. His coaches love him, and the FO adores him because he convinced Giannis to re-sign this year, way before anyone thought he would, to make sure the team and new coach wouldn’t have that pressure on them.
    Every team would be lucky if their end-of-bench guy could do any of these, let alone all of these…

  • @Jacev_
    @Jacev_ Před 3 měsíci +1

    Can you imagine how many teams that have lost a star player due to requesting a trade, wish that it was this easy to have kept them if all they had to do was to just have someone in the player's family on the bench?
    Bron in Cavs/Heat, Shaq in Magic/Lakers, KD in Thunder/GSW, Harden in Thunder/Houston etc - these players all had requests such as a lot more money, beefed with another player in their team or wanted to play with their buddies in other teams. Those are the common types of demands that are extremely hard to meet, if at all so the fact that a star player's simple demand was essentially, "Give my brother a job and I stay" was probably the best case scenario and easiest demand for a team that a superstar could ask for.

    One thing Sportsphere didn’t mention is that the Bucks lost Kareem Abdul Jabaar in his prime because Milwaukee did not feel like him remotely for him in the cultural sense. It wasn’t black enough especially at that time, the 70s. Milwaukee is not a top destination for black people, it’s Wisconsin after all which is arguably the whitest state in America. So the Bucks regretted losing Jabaar and weren’t going to make the same mistake twice. This is why they’ll gladly pay the chunk change to Thanasis if it means Giannis will stay. It’s a small price to pay and the upside is very good. This is why the Bucks secured Thanasis. They want Milwaukee to feel like home when it really isn’t. And what’s more home than family.

He is an all energy guy and will give the 100% of what he offers, with some spectaculars dunks or blocks and some on ball defence, but because of his energy and style, and because he has the "must" over his head, he commits many fouls very quick and he has very poor ability of medium to long distance shots. Overall he would be a good and useful player to a team of Eurocup or a middle range to weak Euroleague team. He could offer to that stage, in variant forms, from SG to even PF.

    1:11 Thanasis is not the oldest, he is 2nd. They have an older brother named Francis.

    Thanasis is not as bad as he seems, of course he is not a great player either. As long as he only gets a little garbage time in a few games he will always be at his lowest level, but this doesn't seems to bother him. He could easily be in Europe playing basketball having a lead role and improve his skills as he was back in 2017-2019 but since money is not an issue for him, he has chosen to just be on the side of his brother, living the NBA dream, having great time and sacrificing his career. Well tbh if i was in his position i will definitely do the same.

    I’m from Milwaukee grew up a Bucks fan my whole life yes he isn’t that good on the court but he’s the leader of our team kinda what Udonis did for the heat, without him no championship honestly

    I know that his presence in NBA is a joke but he played 2017-19 in Panathinaikos in Greece and he was one of the best defenders in the league and with his energy change the team spirit and help won many games. Now again in Panathinaikos their brother Kostas is playing (he was with the lakers when they won the championship) and he is very good. In Europe that defense is more important than offence Thanassis would probably play in a A level team for 20 minutes…

    People tend to forget how important practice teams or second stringers are whether in practice or the positivity on a bench. Has anyone played with negativity on a bench?

    I have watched Thanasis Europe and NBA he is a very good player when his coaches give him a chance to play a lot of minutes...2times he plays over 35min and he have amazing stats..27p-5r-2a-1b 2022 against very good team cavs 23p-10r-5a-2s against very good defensive team knicks 2021....very good defender player ...he can run the offense pretty good because he understand the game better than the most guards in NBA...this guy can easily could be a player like Draymond Green if he have better personality like his brother....

    Fact is every team wants Giannis. Lakers even signed Kostas for the same reason
