  • Recently, USA Today released their TenBest roller coasters in the United States. Once again, Phantom’s Revenge made the list, being ranked 3rd in the country. My original review on this hyper coaster was all the way back in 2019, so I thought it was time for an update! Phantom’s Revenge has an interesting history, first opening to the public in 1991 as Steel Phantom. The ride was originally built by Arrow Dynamics and the coaster featured 4 inversions and it held the record for the fastest roller coaster with the tallest drop in the world. At the end of 2000, the 4 loops were removed, and the layout was modified by Morgan, before opening back up as the coaster we know today.

    This is my “number zero” coaster. The one that got me into coasters, and even worked on it. So much sentimental value. And they continue to make sure it’s running in tip top shape, they do a lot of maintenance work on it that aren’t even fully needed. So intense but butter smooth on the track.

    Yup, that’s my phantom.

    Last year I rode the phantom revenge and it is my favorite roller coaster in a Kennywood

    I just got 5 rides on this today and I live in Wisconsin. This ride was phenomenal and maybe the best coaster I’ve been on but that will most likely change as I will be going to Cedar Point and Kings Island for 2 days. I really loved the view of this park as it was very visually appealing while you can see the start of the Appalachian mountains in the distance. This park is overall amazing but I was very sad that the steel curtain was not open and now TT2 won’t be as those were a couple of my top rides to get on but they still have so many good ones that I love it

    I hadn't thought of those landings as factoring into the smoothness. In terms of how it rides the track, it's hard to find a smoother coaster than Phantoms Revenge. Of course, every coaster at Kennywood seems to be butter smooth. At least, they have been when I've visited. I'm only at 9 laps on Phantom over 2 visits, but I look forward to getting more in August. I'm sad I won't get more on Steel Curtain, but that's why I took advantage of it having no line all day when Phantom had a 30-minute line all day in 2022.

    Just got some night rides on Friday (16 rides total that day), and I swear this thing gets faster each time I ride it. Even with the trims hitting the standing ejector was ridiculous lol

    I got on it last year as my two hundredth credit. I had to painfully go through each and every other roller coaster to make 200, it was totally worth it

    My favorite coaster. Plus she is at my home park. Could ride it all day.
    Old enough to have rode the original Phantom (as well as the Laser Loop). The Phantom's Revenge is imo the better of the two.
    I frequently compliment the operators on how well they do and stop by the service desk to compliment as well.
    I tell my kids I'm going to work the Phantom part time when I retire. Lol.

    Phantom definitely is one of if not the best hypers in the world I still think personally I give Curtain the slight edge but that have been getting smaller with phantom getting closer to taking the lead again, for I’ve been getting my best and most wild rides on it recently, for it’s just been hauling this whole year and it almost feels like,e your standing on some of those hills that ejector is no joke and for a 23 year old coaster or older if you count it’s time as steel phantom it is still butter smooth with no roughness, it truly is a top notch crazy coaster I am glad to have as my most ridden coaster and that my home park has, for it’s definitely one of the best. The petrifying Purple color sure does look great! My favorite phantom train even through there technically isn’t any difference is the Green train and have always been the green train sense they got new trains for it back in 2014

    Can you do a video on Knoebels, Indiana Beach, Valley Fair, and Six Flags Great America on park improvements/upgrades for the 2026 season since they're celebrating milestones?

    The 1st coaster with a drop over 200' it's the REAL OG hyper coaster (even if it was Steel Phantom by Arrow w painful inversions).

    I’d say Phantom is only about half the intensity of Steel Curtain. SC is way too much and Phantom is about perfect, evidenced by the long-standing high ratings over the years.

    • @SkyrushFanboy
      @SkyrushFanboy Před měsícem

      Phantom is far more intense than curtain and it's not even close. Have you even ridden both? I don't blame you if you haven't ridden curtain because it's one of the most unreliable rides on the planet currently lmao

    • @mtfan
      @mtfan Před měsícem +1

      @@SkyrushFanboy I've certainly ridden both. I've been riding Phantom's Revenge since it debuted (rode the original Steel Phantom also). I rode Steel Curtain the first year in 2019 - I was grayed out for 2/3 of it because it was so intense and relentless with positive G's. I've heard they've slowed it down since but I haven't gotten a chance to ride it again due to the reliability issues. I can marathon Phantom if I want to (and I have) which I certainly wouldn't have been able to do on Curtain because I'd be dead from a lack of blood to my brain after the 3rd ride.

    • @OklahomaCoasterFan
      @OklahomaCoasterFan Před měsícem

      @@mtfan I get it. I am someone who almost never greys out on any coaster, but Steel Curtain was getting me. I rode it 11x on my day in 2022, and I would grey out on every single ride, usually twice in the ride. But for me personally, I love it when a coaster can give me that rare greyout. I like the feeling. It was part of what kept me going back for more, not just for that intensity, but for the airtime, hangtime, unique inversions, speed, smoothness. However, I easily like Phantom more. Amazing 1-2 punch, well, now just the 1.
