    What's interesting is that I have had a V1 in my collection since around 1995, and the muting behavior has always been like this (until this welcome change in the firmware). Never has it caused me to miss a legitimate LEO signal in all that time, but after detectors started unmuting Ka signals since Ka has become the dominate threat, I have also been looking for a solution to this, this appears to be a move towards allowing us to have it how we want. Thankfully the loud bogey tone does get your attention and the signal ramp bleeds through during the bogey tone to give you a head's up. Now if we can get other manufacturers to allow muting to stick rather than unmuting, we all would be better off....even if they gave us the option to have muting behave how we want.

  • @caseyraskob5448
    @caseyraskob5448 Před 2 lety +4

    I've seen this...I have a local road with a "your speed is XX" sign on K. Right off that is an on ramp to a highway where local LEO uses Ka band...I've muted the K sign, gotten on the highway, and gone down the road with the Ka signal burning a hole in my tail lights and the G2 silent. I leave bogey beep on "on".

    The default choice is placed perfect IMO. So long as people know. People like myself want a fast way to mute it completely when in conversation (people in vehicle or phone). Other times, still get the new bogey alert under mute. As a user of multiple G2. Like the feature add/adjustment.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 2 lety +4

      I could see the double mute being useful for phone conversations. I wonder why it’s not documented though.
      It’s the single mute also muting future Ka hits that bothers me most.
      If you like it and are aware that’s how it functions, no big deal, but it’d be nice to at least have the option for a Ka alert to fully punch through if you’re not also running an app.

      @@VortexRadar understood good to ask for what you want (as in this case).
      However, someone could really pick apart attributes of the R7 (and soon R8). For those using the R series, they are ok with attributes others see is important quirks needing changed. Especially when brand loyalty is factored in, people can be more (or less depending on POV) picky with a brand’s model operation. As a user of multiple brand platforms, I am good with one setting which has the quick new bogie alert (then back to mute) when Ka would pop up. Depending on driving setting, total audio mute even with added new Ka bogies is ok. Typical where on a conference call or passengers having a good conversation with the driver is perfect. Why? Because the driver (including myself) may not be doing cannon ball like speeds in that situation. Visual with muted audio (silent) is golden.
      I have family members who have used V1 platforms for decades. Also their offspring are V1 users. They seem to be a typical audience of the V1 platform. Enjoy the serious capabilities of the G2, but want something more that does not need a large manual to use. Fewer mostly unused choices, fewer chances of accidentally making a change to something they do not prefer. End up calling VR customer support for help to recover function.
      For the smaller set of Uber power users, they will use a app or the manual on the unit changing default config to something else. G2 covers both customer bases well.

      @@VortexRadar So the V1 Gen2 user has no choice but to accept the mute feature on KA & K bands that will also mute the 2nd radar hit within 15 seconds? Is their an off switch for this auto mute?
      This is how a driver gets nailed by not hearing the alert with music turned up.
      Does Valentine plan on integrating the Multa (MRCD, MRCT, Gatso) radar detection in their gen 2s? & a separate display for multa radar? Pop? Laser?
      V1 really dropped the ball on their lack of a display screen on their new units.
      V1 is still stuck in the 90's with their lack of upgrades on the display screen.
      Really non-sensicle to keep such an old display screen.
      Why one of the radar detector company's hasn't figured out how to listen to the consumer or professionals like yourself & develop a radar detector that can be modular with newer features in the future is NOT forward thinking.
      Please respond. I would just like to update my old V1 but can't until V1 gets their head out of their butts.

      You have to learn the new way. With no alert, press once on volume, you get number readout of volume. press twice and you get an audible beep at the set volume. With no alert, press on/off and volume, you will get muted volume by number, same, press twice and you get audible muted beep. Yes, I miss the knob too....but supposedly some customers never figured out the way the concentric knobs worked....

      @@cladma1 I can live with having to stick them back on every once and a while for all the features of the v2 when paired with a phone. Its basically the only good option for motorcycle use if you want to get alerts though the helmet intercom and have good range. When on the bike I use 3m dual lock on the bottom mounted to a ram mount clamp swivel on the mirror stalk.

    • @SuperTurbocoupe
      @SuperTurbocoupe Před 2 lety +1

      Because the "little" locking style sucks. It's bulky, makes it hard to mount high and tight in most applications, and allows the detector to vibrate. Most enthusiasts quickly ditch the crappy sticky cup mounting system and go for a more compact solution that also won't fall off in the middle of summer or winter months. Of all my detectors, the V1G2 has stayed up the longest even with removing the V1G2 from the mount hundreds of times without the suction cups disconnecting from the window. Ironically, it's also the only mount in my daily driver that isn't now attached with 3M double sided tape (My Escort mount, Radenso Mount, and Uniden mount are all now mounted with a double sided tape solution).
