Thank you so much for posting this. I just bought this computer for my son and followed this video to add 8GB RAM and a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Everything is working beautifully. Your instructions made it so easy. I'm very grateful.
Is your ssd working along with pre-installed hdd?
Did the same thing with the same success. As the end of the video shows, if followed correctly you will be able to use both drives
How to retain pre-installed windows?
I added 8GB back when I bought it in 2016. I will add an SSD now as slow loading times are becoming lot more obvious in 2021. But its real hard to find M2 SATA SSD in my country other than off brands like Hikvision etc.
@@gauravkumar-lg5fi boot with this SSD and you will get option to recover OS then select your old HDD.. it will start to retain OS with license.
I upgraded mine with 860 Evo sata m.2 1TB and the RAM used in video. Works like a brand new computer. And can actually run pc games smoothly. I almost bought a new laptop but glad I spent $140 for these upgrades. Highly recommend.
i’ve been trying to do something about this laptop for a while and this is exactly what i needed. it’s a pretty slow computer but i think with these upgrades it should be a lot better. thanks man
Any updates on how well this worked? I’m definitely thinking about upgrading to a total of 16GB RAM. It is a great computer but running multiple programs is just so slow these days.
@@graveschris89 I have the upgraded ram . Computer is solid. But slightly slow when it comes to booting apps. Wondering if the SSD will be beneficial
@@Tonayez did the ram upgrade improve gaming
@@ToxicFireCloud honestly didn’t game on it . But I updated windows and installed CCLEANER and computer is like new now
It took me like 6 different tutorials to manage it but I finally did it.
New M.2 and full upgrade of the Ram.
You give me the last piece of info about changing the default Storage location.
Thank you.
thank you so much! I was thinking to buy and upgrades this machine, now I'm sure of it
I just installed the ssd and RAM today in my 7559! Thanks a lot for this tutorial!
what is the model of the ssd ?
Samsung EVO 850 250 gb
I've just upgraded my dell 7559 with two 8 GB Crucial RAM and a Samsung EVO 860 1 TB SSD with the instructions in the video and everything worked perfectly!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for your video, this helped me doing the same operation on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 7577) and it works perfectly
Great video, very helpful. Decided to buy an added on a SSD as recommended (went 512GB) what a difference! Start up went from 50 sec to 14 sec. Ram is due to arrive this week and I'm sure that will only help though don't have any memory issues as is.
My downloads are still going to the C: drive. Did I make a mistake? I thought they were supposed to go to the D: now
exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for making this video mate !
Great video. Straight to the point, and nice camera shots. Well done.
A question about this:
I've had this laptop for over 2 years and it's awesome! If I was to install a 250GB SSD now, I wouldn't format the stock 1TB HDD/SSD "Hybrid" drive (I don,t wanna lose my audio files!!). Would I be at any disadvantage by not doing that last formatting step? Thank you!
If you want to recover ALL of the partition space, including the hidden ones that Windows creates, you'll need to use the "clean" command in the Admin prompt. It's worth doing.
Care to explain more?or any page, tutorial i should read?looking to upgrade mine
This Video is a miracle ahaha there are no videos for the 15 7559. Saved my butt this Christmas
Excellent video with usefull and easy to understand information. Thank you so much! Seriously helping me by sending this to my customer's who aren't sure how to upgrade their laptops.
thanks dude it was scary putting in the ram
I kept thinking it was going to snap
I just ordered one because I noticed it was the only thing that couldn't be upgraded.
I got the i7 model with the exact same specs off of amazon for 850. It doesn't come with the ssd or a different screen. I'm assuming it wasn't a waste I think?
I got the same one cause it was i7 for 50 bucks more.
Easy as pie. Thanks for the straightforward and simple video it was very helpful!
AMAZING video. Thanks dude! These instructions are clear and direct.
help! I have an m.2 ssd and when go into the samsung migration tool, it doesn't recognize the ssd...
check the bios and see if your computer have detected that or not. then let me know
So after I upgrade the ssd m2 so where will I install my games? on the hdd or on the ssd? anyone know how they will work? please give me some links or explains. thank you.
Nguyễn Hùng on the :D drive
Thank you! This is exactly what I've been looking for.
thats a lot of information in less time..thanks a lot you deserve a subscribe.
I have this laptop but it has the i7 processor. Bought it on Amazon for $799. Awesome deal.
Same here!
ME TOO!
Did it work fine the ssd?!? Have the same laptop but i bought the samsung 960 evo and it didnt recongize did everything even with the bios. Now i order 850 hope it works
i got mine for $350 :)
960 is NVME which does not work with this laptop.
850 should work just fine since its SATA
would the 'Samsung 860 EVO M.2 250GB Internal SSD' work just like the 850?
Yes because they are both SSDs that connect with an M.2 SATA protocol (physical port and data transfer)
A key note is the pins and shapes match
Thanks for the video. I have the same laptop and i done the same upgrade after I watch this video. Very easy to install and is a really good improvement in speed. Thank you
Thank you so much! Followed your instructions and upgraded.
I'm such a noob with PC's, as soon as the hardware stuff ended I got completely lost xD
yo if ur gonna do an upgrade video, at least put the parts as a link in the description!
wheres the ram link homie?
I upgraded mine and it worked. I didn't use the laptop for a while and had a bunch of Windows and Dell updates.
Thanks for this video! I didn't know how to upgrade my Dell but now I do! (:
u uploaded this video for the second time.
first one was 5:48 long with 2 minutes of black screen at the end.
+rishabh patel sshh hoped noone else noticed
+Mark Guim How do you migrate the OS to the SSD if you don't have a Samsung SSD but a Kingston or Crucial branded M.2 SSD?
+GrittyMcCheese I think you need to go to your BIOS
Rishabh Patel Can someone please help me I kind of dented the part where the fan is so when the fan spins it hits the top and makes a noise please help
Maybe I'm missing something, but how does the OS take up 172GB of space on the SSD?
He also had installations on the SSD it wasnt just the OS. the OS alone takes about 30GB
Thank you so much for this guide, it worked perfectly!
simple and useful video, subbed
cant find that ram anywhere for $34..
amazon, i just ordered mine today.
@@Al_Sayid_Sanad which one
Crucial 8 gb ddr3
@NeckarbGaming Why ddr3 when dell site says to install ddr4?
@@TheO4ko this laptop modell is not even compatible with ddr4
You can upgrade it to 32GB of RAM by using Crucial one 2x16g DD3L 1600 SODIMM. Just replaced them, works like a charm.
Does the Motherboard Really handle the 16Gb, Please Explain me more, I will follow your steps ;)
@@jucamI also want to know about this does it work properly or not
I also want to know will 32 gb work
I wanna use the 16gb (new) + 8gb (existing) RAM configuration.
I'd like to know if this will work
how descriptive and direclty to the point. well done!
Great video, thank you for that. I was wondering if opening the back will void the warranty?
Where did u buy it tho I can't find it anywhere where they sell the ssd by $91
Just order it online
+DragonRebound '-' that's what I'm trying to do but they didn't include the links where they sell the ssd by $91
+Chan Min the price may have changed overtime id say just google around to find the best price
+Chan Min do you really need the stoarage ill probably get the 1tb hdd and buy some ram for cheap to upgrade
+DragonRebound '-' it's not that I rly need it it's just that this is probably the cheapest and effective way to upgrade this laptop and I don't have extra time to spend searching through google so ya. But thx for replying to me
Hey everyone, just an FYI i purchased this laptop. Tried to install the 256gb M.2 SSD samsung 950 pro. Laptop does not register it. Dell is sure their laptop reads PCIe. Whilst in contact with them they told me it was only because it only supports a 128gb ssd in the M.2 slot. This is clearly BS since he has one working with 250gb. Also they say it will only run 1600MHz RAM my 2100MHz comes soon so i will see if that works. More to come. I will let you know if i can get it to work.
ZACH C This laptop doesn't support NVMe SSD such as 950 pro. The laptop only support DDR3L RAM which usually comes with 1600MHz, 2100MHz is DDR4.
You can run the 960 pro?
ZACH C Can someone please help me I kind of dented the part where the fan is so when the fan spins it hits the top and makes a noise please help
lol
Mohamad Syazani what 8gb ram stick do I buy??
Thanks for this sharing, it helped me a lot
Thanks, a useful vid. Some comments...
1) Should always use ESD earthing strap on your wrist before touching electronics.
2) Should unplug laptop battery whilst installing new components?
3) You have a 1TB C: drive but had less than 250GB of data to transfer to the 250GB SSD.
If you have more data on C: than the SSD the Samsung s/w does permit you to spec which user files are excluded from the transfer.
Next step is to change this crappy 1x1 WiFi (AC3165) card to much faster and stable Intel AC8260 for faster internet.
I would love to see a video of wifi upgrade
+rdd25 It would go pretty much the same way that he installed the ssd. The only difference would be connecting the antennas.
I would also love to see a video of you replacing the WiFi card, I would love to upgrade mine but I feel anxious to do it without seeing it done on this laptop.
Chris Bushell It's as easy as changing an m.2 drive. Just make sure it's compatible.
+Jan Wiśniowolski would this be the wifi card to upgrade to? www.amazon.ca/Intel-7265NGW-Wireless-Bluetooth-Interface/dp/B00TKO47XI/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454376850&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Intel+Dual+Band+Wireless-AC+8260+%288260NGW%29+NGFF+Wwifi+Card+867Mbps+2.4%2F5GHz+Only+work+on+Microsoft+Windows+10 i seem to be having trouble finding the right one
What is this Game plz 0:07
Just Cause 3
Just Cause 3 :)
That's a song, not a game... And that joke died a long time ago, not funny.
its a dead meme thats why its funny
I did the sata 3 ssd upgrade from the hdd. that was pretty easy to do once I pryed the hdd out of that machine. I had to do a clean install of Windows 10 though. I had a real hard time with the RAM upgrade though and at the end, I couldn't install it. Anyways, that process was fun doing last night. back to work and making my real content. I'll have a video of that later. I lost the Microsoft Store warranty though for doing that mod. but I think that laptop will last longer than 2 years anyways.
Thanks man, you really helped me out. The included hdd sucks on the new model but the rest of the laptop is fine.
You forgot it was an ips panel ;)
it isnt
Yes it has an IPS display.
goddamn this shit looks good for the money
Raju123X it is. I love mine
same i have the i7 version
I have a problem,in amazon the !7 comes with 1tb hard drive and the other !5 comes with 256gb SSD,should i get the !5 or the !7?
i7
Also should i get the extra 8gb of ram?
great video! exactly what i needed. like rdd25, i would also love to see how to replace the wifi card.
Many thanks to this video. Keep it up!
For anyone's sake 8GB is enough for gaming
More is always better :P
Jacob Caffee so more money is better too..... which you will have if you dont buy a buttload of RAM
+Don't be stupid you know what's better than butt load money a butt load of ram
$30 for an extra 8GB of RAM won't break the bank, I can assure you. Even if you have a PC that supports up to 32GB of RAM it is still relatively inexpensive to upgrade to that amount from the traditional 8GB.
If 30 bucks more will break your bank you probably shouldn't be purchasing a $700+ laptop. So please shut up. Also Ram is not only for gaming, some people do light video editing and other processes that require more ram. $30 is nice for a little bump.
Don't be stupid
thanks for the video. nice quick tutorial...
just got me this laptop love it alot gonna upgrade ram and get ssd
where did you get it? can you leave a link for me please>
Great video, very helpful.
Question:
Im about to buy this laptop and do the same upgrades. Do the heavy-load programs like photoshop need to be saved on the ssd in order to run faster? Is it necessary to put media files and games on the ssd or is the hdd good for that?
Thank you!
Thank you this video was very helpful
When you clone the hd to the ssd does it clone the Recovery Image that came with the laptop so you can reset to factory settings in the future?
Oh my gosh thank you so much, this video was very helpful. Keep up tge god work ;)
As an FYI-Costco has the I7 (non-touch) version of this laptop with 16GB of memory already installed, for less than $800. I bought the 850EVO SSD that's shown here and did everything suggested on the video. Total time including registering the new computer was 20 minutes. Best thing about buying from Costco? Free support if needed (I didn't as this is really easy to do)-and 2 years warranty instead of 1 year. Also, if you use your Costco VISA, you get an additional 2 years on the warranty. Now it's back in the box and ready for my daughter for her big Christmas present :)
Just put the same hardware upgrade like the video. Totally worth it!
Mine model is the i7 with Full HD display.
i have a question.
does the migration software clone the recovery partition as well because my dell 7559 came with windows 10 pre installed on the system. is there anything i should be carefull about?
I did the upgrade, thanks, it was easy :-) , btw I bought the RAM with Amazon points and it was a great deal
Nice video. I am thinking of buyng one of these. Is the battery soldered in or is it easily replaceable at some point when it needs to be changed?....BTW..I would be using for photo editing using Adobe Lightroom..Seems this would be a great model as long as the sRGB colors are accurate.....Thanks again.
Philip
I have the exact laptop, this video is so helpful
Excellent video. Learned a lot. Thanks!
Just a question from a non-technical person. You mentioned that it is recommended that you make the default save location the 1TB hard drive. This makes sense since your SSD may reach its maximum capacity sooner that you'd need. However, we still have to make sure that programs you want to load fast like Photoshop or Premier is installed in the SSD drive so that it will load faster, is this correct?
Also, is the 250 SSD Enough to contain the System Files, Photoshop and Premier?
Hope someone can help out.
It's enough but if you got more cash, get the 512gb m.2 ssd
Great video bud!
Thank you for this!
Does the migration software only move the system files to the new SSD drive? What about existing data files? Won't they be blown away when re-formatting the D-Drive? How does one preserve existing data files? Thanks.
You are the best, Many thanks 🙌🏻
Just did this and it worked! Thank you! I also upgraded the wireless card
What did u replace it with
samsung m2 ssd and crucial ram
+hokey dokey 2:55 Isn't just documents, music, pictures, videos and NOT Apps? as they take much longer to load on a normal HDD?
Did you encountered any problem after upgrade?
+reus ril if you ask me, as long as you insert the right product, then i doubt you would encounter any problems what so ever
thanks helped alot i put in the Samsung v-nand ssd 970 m.2 and PNY DDR4
BTW i have the Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming
If i were to upgrade my lenovo y520 with the same ssd that you had in this video, will it be the exact same steps, from migrating it , to formating the old drive ?
followed these steps! worked flawlessly! same items i got... but i have the i7 version... superfast bootup!!!
+YoungNhan up to you... I oh considered 256 just to put my system and application files there. All pics, video, etc goes to my regular hdd.
Planning to upgrade this laptop too, did you experience any problem after upgrade to ssd?
if you're unsure about how much memory you'll have left after cloning it, get the 500GB
Buying the base laptop next week... hopefully can buy the SSD soon after that
Which software to use for data migration if installing a Kingston SSD Sata III into the 7559 model?
Great vídeo man, tks for the tip. By the way where can i buy that lovely mug? rsrs
Great video, but I'm wondering if this machine can be use for render for software like sketch up.
Does it matter what type of RAM I get? Like if its not a Dell made RAM stick and its a third party stick would that matter?
@windowscentral can u recommend anything different or upgraded now that 9 months have passed since video upload date?
Does the data migration move EVERYTHING from the HDD to the SSD or is it just system files? Will my games, pictures, and documents be saved?
nice clear video.
Do you know if the new Samsung 950 pro ssd3, pcie support work with the Dell 7559?
Hello. Can I upgrade the same item to 16Gb 2133 MHz RAM? Or only 1600 MHz?
Thank you!!! Amazing video. Followed step my step. About to load up Rust and see if I’m waiting an hour for a server to start 🤣
nice review btw. I have samsung ssd 850 evo 250 gb,(my laptop : lenovo ideapad 700 i7 6700hq+nvidia gtx950m 4gb ddr3 and 12gb DDR4 RAM)
should i turn on the rapid mode ? do u know the differences compared to normal mode ? what benefits will we get from this mode ?
what are the pros and cons if I buy an external HD instead of an additional internal SSD card? For the same amount of a 250gb ssd I can buy a 4TB EHD. I would more than likely be using the extra storage for Games and music. Thanks in advance
Is the SSD installation process the same for a pic nvme type? Samsung 960 Evo in particular
can you use ddr3l ram chips that are from different manufactures? In the video you added a crucial chip with the stock ram. Does it make a difference?
I bought this laptop 6 years ago and now I'm planning on upgrading so I can keep using it. Everything takes forever to load. What parts would you recommend today?
This'll be the first time I replace a hard drive. Will I be able to easily reinstall Windows once the new hard drive is in? I have this laptop.
just ordered this laptop. crazy deal for the price.
This may sound like a dumb question but would this same SSD work for the XPS 15 model? I have the 1TB HDD+32GB SSD model and want to upgrade the SSD - would this m.2 work and would the installation after swapping look the same? Just curious as there's not a lot of instructions out there and this is video is very clear and easy to follow
Some said the screen is not accurate for photo or video editing? what do you think? If I need a system for office work but also doing a bit editing same system with i7 and 4k is good. What about battery, how long it can hold for one charge. Cheers
hey guys, great video!
i just bought an SSD, Samsung Evo 860 m.2 sata (not PCIe, so it should work, right?), but it's not showing up next to my original hard drive in the explorer...is that normal and will the samsung tool fix that?
after installing the SSD and transfering all windows stuff, I guess I could remove the old hard drive and install a new one? so I can have more than 1TB?
For dell Inspiron 15 7559 !!
What are the models will support from Samsung SSD?
The original ram that comes with the laptop uses Sk Hynix can I use other brands like the Kingston ram?
excellent video
the side with the 2 exhausts is for the gpu or the cpu? just curious under what exhaust fan is the cpu and the gpu, etc. Appreciated.
